According to Lee, et al., (2012), there are three steps of contextualized instruction and is summarized in the table below.

Step Description
Decontextualization Explain unfamiliar concepts (terms) literally with some backgrounds of the concepts.
Contextualization Relates the concept to each student’s cultural context and personal background using examples, non-examples, stories, parables, historical incidents, visuals, objects.
Recontextualization Stabilizes new learning by incorporating into everyday lives. Gaining new behavior that is congruent with the rest of the behaviors.
