“We are all prisoners of our fates,” said Buddha, “ No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path. ” This saying came to my mind immediately after reading Connie Willis’
.
is a book that continues to give me surprises and it taught me things that may take me decades to understand. talks about a group of historians, Polly, Merope (always refers to as Eileen), Michael (used name “Mike” when doing assignments in the past) and Colin in the 2060s who travel back in time to observe historic events. However, they met troubles during the assignments and accidently changed history. They found themselves trapped in 1940s and could not go back to 2060. In this journal, settings, characters, predictions and

. Michael Davis is the only man is the three historians trapped in 1940. He has very distinct and typical personality. As a young faithful man, Michael is hot-tempered and heroic. Willis named him after Lieutenant Robert Davies who was awarded the George Cross (GC) for the heroism he displayed in defusing a bomb during WW2. This also shows that Willis wants to make Michael a heroic character. When Charles asks Michael the reason he does not observe historian events from a safe distance like other historians do, Michael says:
…...And four, I’m not studying the heros who lead navies----and armies----and win wars. I’m studying ordinary people who you wouldn’t expect to be

He is not interested in heros that everyone knows. Instead, he pays attention to plain folks and wants to introduce those obscure heroes to people. Also, Mike shows his heroic traits and bravery when he rescues the soldiers that he should not rescue as a historian. When they are facing high risks while rescuing the soldiers, the commander tried to stop Mike, but “Mike ignored him. He grabbed the boat hook to snag the life jacket with and seated backed to the railing.” (108) and “lost one foot” (109) because of this. So generally, Mike is an active, faithful and heroic character. On the other hand, Eileen (Merope) is soft-hearted, delicate-hearted and kind. Her last name “Ward” also reveals her sympathy to orphan wards during war time. She is like a role of mother in the team who take cares of everyone and always has mercifulness. When it is time for Eileen to go to the drop and leave 1940, she wishes to take care of the children for the last time even though she would take the risk of being late and miss the drop site. She thought: “Perhaps I can still get him into bed for the last time, and then, as soon as Mrs.Bascombe brings up the hot water bottle, run out to the drop and tell them I’m going to be late.”(128) This shows Eileen’s kindness and her soft heart. She develops likeness towards the children she supposed to observe and wishes to take care of them for the last time. Also, when doing the assignment,

3. Mikey is his mother’s “world, her heart’s blood, her pulse” , he is her pride and joy. He “has more sense than twelve men drinking pints in the pub”, “knows all the names of the popes”
A quality Polly did not exhibit in the beginning of the book but she acquires by the end is compassion. When we first meet Polly she was merciless towards blacks. Polly feels she is superior to the blacks and that they take business away from her causing her family to live in poverty. She does not
As with all of John Locke's books it's one that I have trouble putting down - the thrills and chills keep you turning the pages.
Recently, I had the pleasure of reading the book Ella Minnow Pea. At first reading I didn't expect much out of it. I thought it wouldn't be interesting. I was wrong while reading this book, I endured many great things. I learned the importance of language.

This book helped deepen my understanding of human biology in a handful of ways. I have never really learned
After reading both of these books, I can admit that they may have placed a lasting impact on my life.
My experience when reading this book was pretty astonishing based on what Barbara Ehrenreich went through as she was in different places

The title of the book I read is Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. The author, Rudyard Kipling, wrote this book in 1894. It was illustrated and adapted by Jerry Pinkneyand Lambert Davis. This setting took place at the family's home. Most of the characters are imagined, such as Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, Nag, and Nagaina. This story is an example of fiction, because the animals in the story can talk.
Timeline is a third person science-fiction novel touching on the implications and consequences of time travel. The book has a unique form in which it switches the focus on different characters throughout the book. For example, the book starts off with an old couple saying “‘Liz, he said, ‘are you sure this is the way?” and then moving to a CEO of the most profitable company explaining quantum mechanics. The main characters are Andre Marek, a graduate student who is fascinated by the medieval era, Kate Erickson, an architectural historian, and Chris Hughes, a shy but smart graduate student who gets the group in loads of trouble at times.
I forgot about the books I had hidden. Every day, I did my homework mechanically. I went to bed on time. Then, I read every book I had left three times or more. I memorized “The Hollow Men” before I knew what it meant. I can still recite the biography of Florence Griffith Joyner. I still know every short story written and illustrated by Joni Eareckson Tada.
I have always been afraid of math, but the professor in this book did help me overcome this problem. Different from the previous two books that we read before. This book is completely different, it is neither mysterious, nor complex, but it is the most touching one. It keeps telling us that there do exist goodness and humanity in this dog eat dog world.
