There are seven types of hazards that exist in the health and social care setting and one of them is the Physical Environment. Before I start work, I ensure that the environment is spacious to avoid any accidents. By ensuring that the floor is dry and clear of any obstruction or material that could result to risk of an accident to both the service user and member of staff in line with Health and Safety first Aids Regulations 1987. I carry out checks on the residential areas and on the surroundings, fire checks and parked the wheelchairs and Zimmer frames in their appropriate places to avoid any accidents. I check to see that all doors and windows were locked and secured and areas are hazard

If there is an incident where toxic chemicals spilled on a scientist, he/she must immediately seek for the safety and eye wash station and wash for atleast 15-20 minutes. However, the safety shower’s access in the room was blocked by the gas cylinder hand truck. The eye wash station’s access was crowded by the lab equipments, such as printers, microscopes, made it harder to use if there was a splashing accidence. With these compromises, chemical injuries could be worsening. To prevent this, the hand truck must be stored in designated area away from shower station.

Just recently, All Weather Windows Commercial Ltd., has purchased a smaller company with a large glass manufacturing facility. This smaller company has approximately 150 employees that now work under our organization. Throughout this assignment, I will focus on basic safety initiatives to implement into the new facility. The reason I chose to focus on implementing basic safety initiatives, is based on the fact, this new facility is populated with many plant workers and has to now adopt my organization safety program.

Confined space is more hazardous than the average workspaces for many reasons. A confined space program and hazard assessment should be implanted for your workplace. The hazards in confined spaces areas are the air quality may be low due to low insufficient amount of oxygen for someone to breathe. Poisonous chemicals that could harm the worker or cause the person to become consciousness. Hazards should be made known of, a small error can turn into a big error. If the hazards aren’t known an error can happen in identifying potential hazards and could cause serious conditions. Some of the hazards can include the exit/entrance might not allow the worker to get out of the confined space in a timely manner. Trying to get out of a confined space is difficult. The conditions can change very quickly. Trying to rescue the victim is more difficult. It could be hard with movement of people or equipment. There could be lack of communication between the workers in the space, the person monitoring the confined space and person inside and the emergency response team. Before entering you should prepare yourself to determine if its confined space or not. Every person should be trained and experienced to be able to identify the existing hazards. The air in the confined space or surrounded should be tested before entry. The air is monitored and tested throughout the hole side to side and top to bottom.
