In honor of their missions to nourish lives this initiative meets urgent needs and identifies long-term, maintainable solutions in the areas of child hunger and nutrition education (ConAgra Foods, 2010/29/07). Through trial and error ConAgra have adapted an organizational structure that works for the company. They believe that the matrix organizational structure enhances responsibility and decreases adversity in their management structure, and by aligning their managers precisely with their major priorities it will result in better performance and effectiveness. Matrix organization is an organizational structure that facilitates the horizontal flow of skills and information. Often termed as managing cross functional it’s used mainly in the management of large projects, and because of the complex design of the structure precise integration and control is needed (Schermerhorn, Osborn, Uhl-Bien, Hunt, 2012, p.g. 387). The matrix organization structure allows ConAgra Foods employees more direct access to senior leadership (ConAgra Foods, 2010/29/07). After conducting a study of information gathered from their human resources ConAgra, discovered that salary is not one of the top items when it comes to job satisfaction, as a matter of fact compensation was not even among the top 10 items. Their discovery is comparable to
For this discussion, I have chosen a company that’s a lunchtime favorite in my office—Panera Bread Company, a steadily-growing national restaurant chain headquartered in Sunset Hills, Missouri. Ron Shaich, the creator of Panera Bread, joined with partner Louis Kane, the founder of the bakery-café chain Au Bon Pain Co., Inc. (ABP). In addition to ABP, Mr. Shaich started a “fast casual” sandwich shop that he eventually named Panera Bread, and once ABP was sold in 1999, Mr. Shaich focused on growing the Panera Bread brand. Within the next 15 years, Panera Bread practiced a slow but steady growth pattern and there are now more in 2,300 Paneras in the United States (Panera Bread Company, 2017).
Considering the following statistics, it is clear why Hunger Free Colorado’s work is so important: Nearly 1 in 7 Coloradans struggled with hunger in 2013, facing times when there was not enough money to buy food for their families or themselves (Colman-Jenson, Gregory, & Singh, 2013). More than 1 in 5 Colorado households with children (22%) reported food hardship, facing financial challenges to put food on the table (Food Research and Action Center, 2013). More than 1 in 8 Coloradans lived in poverty, including 1 in 6 kids, during 2013 (Bishaw & Fontenot, 2014).
The St. Francis Xavier Secondary School DECA Chapter advocated and fundraised for the leading cause for over 3 million child deaths annually: malnutrition. The campaign, entitled “Mission4Malnutrition (M4M)”, is a not-for-profit campaign which is dedicated to eliminating hunger within impoverished communities internationally. It strives to bring awareness to malnutrition, which can be defined as “the lack of sufficient nutrients which are normally obtained through food.” There are countless consequences of malnourishment, including deteriorating immunity, susceptibility to rare illnesses, as well as the physical inability to attend school. In order to eradicate malnutrition as well as its detrimental effects, M4M has partnered with two charities: Sharelife Canada and ACF International.
The “Cooking Matter” program will be responsible for three interventions to help alleviate child hunger by recruiting college student participants. (See appendix J for group work VII on intervention development). The first intervention was “Read It before You Eat It!” this intervention will demonstrate the correct way to read nutrition and food labels. Each participant will examine the actual food packaging labels of different food items such as whole wheat pasta, regular pasta, bread, cheese, and
It was difficult to read that countless millions of federal dollars and many of our country's most successful efforts to halt the spread of childhood hunger and starvation have recently been withdrawn. And as a result, this problem of childhood hunger is not getting better but is actually getting worse. The most recent estimates compiled by the USDA in 1999 indicate that 36.2 million Americans live in food-insecure households, which means that their access to adequate and safe food is limited or uncertain. This too is very disturbing information.
The challenges of an organization can influence the performance of an organization from a satisfaction with pay (Gomez-Mejia, Balkin, & Cardy, 2016, p. 296). The employee salary within an organization is a huge cause for turnover of employees (p. 296). First, the topic of employee salary is of great importance for the current and potential workforce (Lee & Lin, 2014, p. 1577). In addition, employees that have the perception on receiving lower compensation that others within their market will lack in performance and have a desire to leave the organization (p. 1577). In retrospect, the regular evaluation of compensation within the organization is vital to the reduction of employee turnover (p. 1577).
Many people do not realize that hunger and malnutrition is a problem that many Americans face on a daily basis. Maybe, we are failing to realize that our country is not perfect, but if we don’t try to do anything then more and more children will die. The problem with child hunger is that the United States may not face as dramatic problems with hunger as that of other countries, but
A recent survey conducted by Mercer Consulting Firm found that salary is the reward component most profoundly appreciated by employees; however, just 55 percent are happy with what they earn. When employees believe, they are being paid short of what
In particular, North Carolina in 2011 formed a “No Kid Hungry” collaborating with state and the national leaders. This nonprofit organization collectively connect kids in need with nutritious food and educates their families on healthy cooking and affordable meals. The campaign also actively engages the public to end child hunger in our nation (North Carolina| No Kid Hungry, n.d). In 2014, “No Kid Hungry” NC initiated at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill 's (UNC) Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. UNC program connected with government officials, business leaders, private citizens, and others who are willing to end child hunger. Its focus is to underutilize nutrition in school system such as breakfast, summer and after-school meals (North Carolina | No Kid Hungry, n.d).
For the analysis the packaged food company ConAgra Foods, Inc (CAG) was chosen. According to ConAgra 2013 Annual report, ConAgra Foods, Inc. is one of the USA’s leading food companies. SALARY: compensation is clearly an important factor for employees and it is one of the main reason for them moving to a new job. Successful professionals appreciate generous salary because giving them a high compensation the company shows to recognize properly and appreciate their skills and competencies.
The purpose of my mission is to go to Sri Lanka to end hunger. I will be going to a small town in Sri Lanka called Gampola, which has an estimated population of 27,660 people. About 1 in 7 children die every day due to the lack of food. My team of 6 people, including me will go to Gampola and rent a food pantry that will take volunteers and donations from all around the world in order to pack nutritious meals for the children in that town. Our main goal is to make sure none of these kids die due to hunger anymore. The main issue is that hungry children are trapped in serious poverty. There are millions of children in this world who are less blessed than many of us, and my team and I want to make a difference in their lives. This is what has inspired us to end hunger in Gampola. We hope to be successful in this mission with the best of our abilities and I’m positive that this mission will change our lives in a good way.
For example, a matrix structure works well when there are numerous customers with unique needs and demands, as well as serious requirements for technical expertise. Second, a matrix structure is fitting when the organization must process a large amount of information. This is specifically true for those organizations that produce a wide range of products or services, or offer those outputs to a substantial number of markets. It is also true for organizations that operate in a fast paced, constantly changing, unpredictable environment. Finally, there must be demands for shared resources. When customer needs differ greatly and technological requirements are stringent, precious human and physical resources are likely to be limited. The matrix structure works well under these conditions because it assists in the sharing of scarce resources. If any one of the abovementioned conditions is not met, a matrix organization will probably fail.
The combined dataset included over 15,000 individuals and 115 correlation coefficients. The results indicate that the association between salary and job satisfaction is very weak. The reported correlation (r = .14) indicates that there is less than 2% overlap between pay and job satisfaction levels. Furthermore, the correlation between pay and pay satisfaction was only marginally higher (r = .22 or 4.8% overlap), indicating that people’s satisfaction with their salary is mostly independent of their actual salary. In addition, a cross-cultural comparison revealed that the relationship of pay with both job and pay satisfaction is pretty much the same everywhere (for example, there are no significant differences between the U.S., India, Australia, Britain, and Taiwan)’.I feel that Tim Judge’s thesis on the matter is right as over the years a higher percentage of successful people have claimed that it isn’t money but the work itself that motivated them. Examples of these people are Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens and Marvin Bower.
Syngenta operates in multidisciplinary markets which require various skills and expertise. Some of the company’s markets according to the company’s website include crop protection, seeds, flowers, turf and landscape, and bioline.
