There are many differences between the book and the movie version of The Giver. The movie changed many parts of the book, to make the movie more interesting and intense, so that people will be more interested in watching it. One difference is the way that Jonas received the memories from the Giver. Another difference is the relationship between Jonas and Fiona. The final difference is when Jonas flees his community when he wasn’t supposed to and succeeded without getting caught. This essay will describe the differences between the book and the movie version of the Giver.

This essay is about comparing the Giver book and movie. The Giver is a story about a boy named Jonas who was chosen to be the community’s next Receiver of Memory. He lived in a community where everything was chosen for the citizens, and everything was perfect. During Jonas' training, he realized that the community was missing something and that there was more in the world. Jonas wanted the everybody to know that. The Giver book was then made into a movie. Though the two were based on the same story, there are three important differences that could've made them two separate stories. The three main differences between the book and the movie are Asher and Fiona's Assignments, the similarity all Receivers had and the Chief Elder's role.

After reading The Giver I had high expectations for the movie to be just like the book. I was hoping that the ending would be better explained. . Don't get me wrong, Lois Lowry did an amazing job, I just feel that the ending happened too quickly and it was not detailed enough. Concerned with the ending of her book I thought that watching Phillip Noyce movie The Giver would clearly thing up. I was obviously wrong, it was too serious, I mean for the most parts it was OK, but the book was a little more chill. Another thing that bothered me was the chief elder, she only appeared in the book like twice, but in the movie she was like in every other scene. (The Giver) is a dystopian society and that is because they kill the smallest of any one twin, also they have drugs that keep them from hitting puberty. The Community in (the Giver) and our society are similar and different because parts of the world and the Community have people that make decisions in society, and MOST of the nations do not kill twins like the Community does.

But this newfound ability leads Jonas into watching his father release another child, which infuriates Jonas. But with the help of the Giver, they form a plan, and when the news breaks that Gabriel is to be released, they start the plan. Jonas takes Gabe and escapes from the Community towards Elsewhere. As he goes, his memories begin to fade as they are released back to the commune. As they run, they experience weather for the first time, and also see wildlife. As they rush to Elsewhere, however, the weather turns against them. Freezing conditions prevent them from moving quickly and they acquire hypothermia. But all alone, the individuals finally reach the apex of a hill. Then, Jonas hears music for the first time and rushes down the snowy mountain on the sled from the memory to Elsewhere, and

“The worst part of holding the memories is not the pain. It’s the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared. (Lowry, Goodreads). In other words it’s saying the pain Jonas is feeling is mental and emotional but not physical. The giver is making Jonas feel these memories and they're coming back to his head. And by sharing memories it lets you get help or makes you feel good because people can help you. My Thesis is comparing and contrasting modern day to the Giver.

There are some similarities between the two, such as the general idea of a community based off of Sameness and order. However, there are many differences in things like the themes, the plot, the symbols, and the characters that just cannot be neglected. The movie is more different to the book than similar because it removes important details, such as Jonas’ pale eyes, limiting exposure to themes like government surveillance, and changing the ending of the movie to being more literal.

Many differences exist when you compare our world to the world of The Giver. In the book age is celebrated up until the Ceremony of Twelve. In our world there are many milestones throughout our lifetime. We celebrate with presents and parties. Nobody in The Giver has a birthday party for just themselves. Instead they all share a yearly celebration together.

The giver is a fictional novel authorised by Louis Lowry dedicated to informing readers about the devastating impact of extreme conformity on a community. As we progress throughout the book we start to realise and learn all these new things about the giver's community, such as creating and trying to maintain a perfect community, that comes beyond our abilities, while the givers society is having a huge impact on the individuality and individual choices on the members of the community. We learn that the inhabitants of the society had a hard time handling all the different memories, in a sudden event. All hints and evidence to these statements above are hidden and presented throughout the book.
