In their short stories, O’Flaherty, author of “The Sniper “ and Bradbury, author of, “All Summer in a Day”, expose the readers to the dark sides of humanity like, self-righteousness, and jealousy. In “The Snipper”, a young man is so dedicated to his beliefs that he commits murder. In “All Summer in a Day” Margot is treated differently because she has seen the sun, and her classmates are angry that they have not. It is important to analyzes how each author reveals these human flaws through characterization which are self-righteousness, and jealousy.
In the story, The Sniper, written by O’Flaherty, the character shows a common human trait,Self- righteousness because of how much he is dedicated to his cause. Very quickly in the plot you realize the character’s obsession to his movement is so strong that he murders a man and a woman with no remorse. As it says in the story “The sniper raised his rifle and fired. The head fell heavily on the turret wall. The woman darted toward the side street. The sniper fired again. Humans feeling or showing envy of someone or their achievements and advantages, that is jealousy. That trait is used in the story All Summer in a Day by the students. They are very jealous of Margot because she was born on earth and has seen the sun and they didn't. As it says in the text “I think the sun is a flower,That blooms for just one hour. That was Margot’s poem, read in a quiet voice in the still classroom while the rain was falling outside. "Aw, you didn’t write that!" protested one of the boys. "I did," said Margot. "I did." William is denying that Margot wrote the poem strongly shows that he is jealous. It is obvious that the character strongly shows jealousy, that he doesn't want to believe that she wrote this poem because it would prove she really does remember the sun
