The Miracle Worker wrote in 1956 and was wrote by William Gibson and the play was adapted to a movie in 1962 and was directed by Arthur Penn and the movies most important characters are Patty Duke as Helen and Anne Bancroft as Annie. In this paper, I will be explaining the comparisons and differences between The Miracle Worker play and movie. The play and the movie both had the scene were Captain Keller and Kate find out Helen is blind and deaf how they found out is when they were shouting at Helen but she couldn’t hear her parents then they shown a lantern in her eyes but she didn’t close her eyes she just sat there blank. Both the play and the movie had the breakfast scene where Annie tries to get Helen to fold her napkin and eat with a spoon also Annie first had to get Helen into her seat she finally did then she started to roundhouse punch Annie but Annie slapped her hard enough she stopped and sat back down. Then, Annie tried to force a spoon into Helen's hand she would throw …show more content…
To contrast, In the movie there way over dramatic because when they found out Helen was blind and deaf Kate let out a huge cry of grief and they were a little over dramatic when Helen finally figured out what everything was because Helen figured out what water was and what the ground was after that Annie was screaming yes. A difference between the play and the movie would be the fight with negro kids because in the play they said that helen was touching the kids mouths trying to feel what they said but when the negro boy bit Helens finger she tried the girls mouth and then she tried to cut her hair but the negro girl stopped it but then Helen jumped on the negro girl but then Kate pulled them apart but in the movie they just showed the part where Helen going through the sheets then goes to the part where Helen is wrestling the negro girl on the
With any comparison between a play and its movie counterpart there are bound to be major differences and key similarities between
A big difference between the two is at the end of the movie; it shows John Proctor, Martha Corey, and Rebecca Nurse being hung in front of the whole town, but in the play it never once mentions them actually getting hung.
There are some differences that especially stand out when comparing the movie to the play. For example, when Abigail is attempting to wake Betty up, many of the girls who had also danced in the woods were in the room as well yet in the book it was only Abigail, Betty and
Movies and books are different in many ways. The book is the one that gives us the details, while the film portrays them. Edmond Rostand's play is about a knight who has a huge nose. He feels that the woman he loves may feel a little awkward. A movie is the altered version of a book that portrays everything differently.
In the play the characters are described with detail, of course because you can not see them. The description of each character is precise. The actions, mood, setting are defined by every word, but sometimes, it just takes too long to describe something . In the film it´s different, it is a lot quicker. You can see every aspect of a character in just a couple of seconds, and you feel more connected to the characters if you can actually see them. Another
Another difference is the presence of three judges in the movie, whereas in the play there were only two, both of whom where made out to be "bad guys." One additional judge is added in the movie possibly to show that it was not the entirety of the Church that was unjust, cruel, and nearly ignorant. I
The movie and play both contain symbols, like Mama’s plant and the light sources. Beneatha and Walter still had their same dreams in both the play and the movie as well, they also lose their hope for their dreams in both versions. Another similarity is that the lighting in the movie corresponds to the lighting mentioned in the play. The lights are important because most of the time they set the mood for the scene. The similarities between the two are undoubtedly important, for they would be two completely different pieces if they were not similar at
One important difference found between the play and the movie is the time period. Caesar is the leader of Rome with a group of senators that are his servants while Regina is the leader of the high school Plastics which is a group of three girls: Regina, Gretchen, and Karen. Everybody in the high school loves and knows everything about the Plastics and the girls look up to them. Caesar gets killed by Brutus for the sake of the people of Rome and Regina’s life gets ruined for the sake of high school students, for revenge from Janis Ian, and so Cady can steal her boyfriend, Aaron
In the end I would prefer the play to the movie because I like to picture things without someone else making the picture for me. I hope this essay has helped you to understand what the differences and similarities were and how the movie and the play are sort of the same. the movie and the play called the miracle worker. So let’s get started.
One difference between the play and the movie was the way James acted. In the movie James was more friendly. He was more friendly because when Annie was coming out from the window James did not sing that one song. Another reason for why James was friendly was at the table when Annie took Helen out to the pump, James told Keller and Kate to let her take Helen out there. On the contrary, in the play he was a little bit more rude.
The third difference in the play and movie is that the acts and the scenes don’t always correspond with each other. For example: In scene 2 of act 1, in the play, it begins inside the house with Travis and Mama discussing chores. In act 1 and scene 2 in the movie, it starts with a big house and it shows Walter Lee cleaning the car. Act 1 and scene 3 in the movie is when Mama and Beneatha discuss about chores. There is no act 1 scene 3 in the play.
Annie wants Helen for more time, but the Keller’s want her back back. Helen is much cleaner in the film. In the book Helen is described as a disheveled mess. Annie tells James to stand up for himself in the movie. However in the book Kate tells him. The book and movie are very different but also the same in many
In this added scene the grocer treats Mama very disrespectfully and gives her rotten apples because of her color. This is done mainly so the the audience can see how African-Americans were treated during that time period. Another difference in the play and the movie is the symbols used in the book rather than the movie. In the play the lighting is very dim and is described as gloomy. In the play, there is only one window in the apartment, but in the movie there is multiple windows.
Similarities is the state of fact of being similar. Differences is a point or way in which people or things are not the same. A play and movie can have the same content, but they have plenty of differences. While reading the play and watching the movie we have compared and contrasted each. Both have the same background. A small poor african american family living on the South side of Chicago. With issues that range from generational clashes to the civil rights and human movement. The Youngers have a opportunity to escape from poverty which comes in the form of a 10,000 life insurance check that Lena Younger (Mama) receives on the behave of her husband’s death. Throughout each the movie and play there are features Protagonist, Dreams, and main
In Summary, with these three examples it is shown that the play and the movie contrast quite a bit. Most of the story line and the dialogue were very similar to the original story in the movie but some things were changed, possibly to shorten the story to be able to make
