While both Keats and Longfellow often reflect on their own unfulfilled dreams and impending deaths, the poems however contrast on their own dispositions towards death and the future. Here, Keats expresses a fear of not having enough time to accomplish all that he believes he is capable of doing, but as he recognizes the enormity of the world and his own limitations of life, he realizes that his own mortal goals are meaningless in the long run of things. On the other hand, Longfellow speaks of a regret towards his inaction for allowing time to slip away from him in his past and is at a crossroads for the ominous future that looms ahead of him. Through the use of light and dark imagery, and personification, Keats and Longfellow similarly yet also differently, reflect on their own ideas for death and the futures that lay ahead of them.

The points of comparison these two writers share are that they were both iconic poets of their day and that they wrote in what is referred to as “black dialect.” The differences between them are their cultural and educational backgrounds.

One similarity that the poems “A Blessing” and “Predators” have is that they both have tame animals. An example that supports this statement it that in the poem “Predators” there are two tame animals or domesticated animals. One example that proves this theory is that in the poem it explains that there is a dog and a cat that is the speaker’s pets. Additionally, in the poem “A Blessing” it explains that in the poem it informes that “We stepped over the barbed wire into the pasture.” This proves that the two Indian ponies are tame because the barbed wire is protecting them and they are in a pasture. Furthermore, the speakers also have similarities. One similarity between James Wright and Linda Hogan is that in the two poems they both learn something. James Wright learns about the feelings that the two Indian ponies had and how that made him happy and peaceful.
