Comparing Saving Private Ryan and The Longest Day
The purpose of this essay is to compare which of the two films (Saving Private Ryan and The Longest Day) is the most emotionally effecting. I am also trying to compare how each of the two films represent war and soldiers to the audience.
The camera work in the two films is very different. The Longest Day nearly always uses the "God" view where the camera is taking an aerial shot of the action. The "God" view means that because you are above all the action it feels like you are in control. The camera work is also really smooth throughout the whole of the clip giving the impression to me that the shot isn't really happening and it has been

In The Longest Day I cannot recall hearing any non-diegetic sound at all which I think was a big mistake by the director. I did not feel that it was as emotionally affecting as was Saving Private Ryan. When comparing diegetic sound I thought that the two films were evenly matched with dialogue and gunfire, the bombs in Saving Private Ryan were slightly better but not much.
The realism of the settings in each of the two clips is significantly different. Saving Private Ryan made me believe that they were actually on the Omaha beach at the date and time of the war. The Longest Day was in my opinion totally unrealistic and it looked like half the time they were standing in front of a screen playing the background of the sea and other boats. Also the captain of the boat in focus stands up looks around and after a pause says: "There it is men", creating the impression to me that they are not actually there because I do not think it would take that long to spot the beach right in front of him.
When comparing the SFX in both of the two clips I found Saving Private Ryan of definite better quality. This was because The Longest Day only contained body shots where the character in

Now the U.S. used a variety of weapons, aircraft, tanks, and ships. Along with many plans on how to raid the correct parts of the wall. The military was ordered to attack 5 beaches code named Utah, Omaha, Gold, Sword, and Juno. The ride that the soldiers had to take on the boats were awful. Everyone got seasick and were freezing cold. It doesn't stop there because the entire time they were under fire.Within 200 to 300 feet
The Battle of Normandy was a turning point in World War II. Canada, America, and Great Britain arrived at the beaches of Normandy and their main objective was to push the Nazi’s out of France. The Invasion at Normandy by the Allied Powers winning this battle lead to the liberation of France and Western Europe. Most importantly Hitler was being attacked from both the eastern and western front, and caused him to lose power. If the Allied Powers did not succeed On D-Day, Hitler would’ve taken over all of Europe. In a document written by General Dwight Eisenhower he persuades the allied powers to invade Normandy. Dwight Eisenhower was born on October 14, 1890. Eisenhower became the 34th president of the United States. He served as the
Examining the Different Ways in Which D-day Landing at Omaha Beach is Depicted in Saving Private Ryan and The Longest Day
The fascination of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn still stays strong to this day. We often find ourselves loving the idea of these two flawless icons. Everyone wanted to be them then, and it is still true today. They were two major icons in the 1950’s. They were two beautiful, inspirational women. Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn really did live the lifestyles of the rich and the famous. Most people only see the similarities, but in fact, they are more different than some may think.
From a fiercely brave General, who strictly enforces customs, bravery, formalities, and success; to a General with a lighthearted-mood, down to earth attitude, a steadfast courage, and a integrity and decency to lead the nations of the world into battle; while both these legendary Generals fought on the same side, both General S. Patton and General D. Eisenhower were distinctly different Generals. This paper seeks to outline the differences and similarities between the two Generals by taking a close look at their lives, and the impacts they had on WWII.
Brent Staples of “Just Walk On By”, Judith Ortiz Cofer of “The Myth of the Latin Woman”, and Alice Walker of “Beauty: When the Other Dancer is the Self” had discovered their personal/cultural knowledge and identity through their experiences. They might have different experiences in different situation or incident it has the same concept. Brent Staples and Judith Cofer had similarly uncovered how they are being alienated especially in their foreign place. They both had experienced to be mistaken as somebody else. Brent Staples was once mistaken for a burglar in a magazine company and a mugger in a jewelry store. Cofer was also mistaken as a waitress by an old woman while she was holding her notebook which an old woman thought a menu
Saving Private Ryan Vs. The Longest Day Both of these films, Saving Private Ryan (1999) and the Longest Day (1962), are representations of the D-day landings on Omaha beach in France. The war film genre was chosen due to its popularity, historical interest and the excitement and adventure involved in battle.
4. As I watched the movie, I could not grasp that the things that I was seeing were real, especially the body parts just laying around. It made me feel sick to my stomach that stuff like that happened.
The misunderstood subculture of music that many have come to know as “hip-hop” is given a critical examination by James McBride in his essay Hip-Hop Planet. McBride provides the reader with direct insight into the influence that hip-hop music has played in his life, as well as the lives of the American society. From the capitalist freedom that hip-hop music embodies to the disjointed families that plague this country, McBride explains that hip-hop music has a place for everyone. The implications that he presents in this essay about hip-hop music suggest that this movement symbolizes and encapsulates the struggle of various individual on
Jews suffered countless amounts of atrocities throughout the history of time. Both stories have themes in which man is evil to man, the will of the main character to survive and overcome evil is present, and the ability of some people to still be compassionate to each other during these times of evil. The book Maus, and the movie “The Pianist,” share many thematic similarities.
The movie Saving Private Ryan directed by Steven Spielberg is probably one of the most exquisite movies to show World War II. Unlike most war movies Saving Private Ryan does not show what we want to see but what we need to see. The graphics used to show the horrific effects on war can drastically put an deep impression in your heart. The movie includes actors such as Tim Hanks, Matt Damon, and Vin Diesel. When Steven came up with the idea for the movie he showed interest in the Niland brothers four siblings who all served in the army during World War II. Brothers Robert, Preston, and Edward were all supposedly killed in action, leading the army to take actions and bring back the last brother Fitz(Private Ryan) home. I'm sure this story created many wonders inside

Have you ever seen or heard of homeless people on the streets or even in places like airports? They are usually not smiling or happy to be stuck with no home and they would much rather be living in a safe home. The two writings both include this struggle. Those two writings are "The 1st" and Fly away Home. These two writings are similar because the characters are homeless and they are very sad about it. One reason that proves they are different from each other is, "The 1st" is a poem and Fly Away Home is a story. What I concluded between both stories is that you should never give up even though it is very easy to give up.
When it came to shopping, I used to go to two stores, Wal-Mart and Target. Now I just go to Wal-Mart. Between the two of these stores, Wal-Mart is definitely the best, not to mention the most beneficial. They have everything you need and more. Who wouldn’t love a store that has the best customer service, quality and much more? Good beginning
