Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt both had substantial roles in many different aspects. These two civilizations have similarities and differences with each other. The civilizations had different ways they approached their societies, for example the works of women. Along the way these two civilizations also shared differences and similarities with their economic and political aspects.
The politics in Mesopotamia was made up of many different aspects. Mesopotamia was made up of city- states which contained the king and high priest. These two figures were the wealthiest but the priest was considered a technical ruler. Mesopotamia had a hereditary monarchy which means the monarch becomes “royalty” if a family member, hint the word hereditary, was a

Although Mesopotamia and Egypt have some things in common, they are different in many ways. Mesopotamia did not have as many people as Egypt did. Also, Egypt had specialized workers that are called the wealthy landowners. Mesopotamia did not have any specialized workers that were wealthy. Mesopotamia and Egypt had different types of specialized workers.
Writing Assignment Egypt and Mesopotamia both have similarities as well as differences. The geography of the two civilizations are similar because a river plays an important part in their way of living. They are different because Mesopotamia is divided into regions. The governments of the two countries have large differences. The advances in technology and science were relatively similar as well because both countries invented writing systems and irrigation systems.
The Egyptian and Mesopotamian religion and society were similar, but their government system was different. The religions in Egypt and Mesopotamia were similar because both were polytheistic, had beliefs of an afterlife, as well as priests who were part of the upper levels of the social hierarchy. Social similarities between Egypt and Mesopotamia included: rigid social structure, dependence on slavery, and authoritative religious structure. However, the system of government was different because Egyptian society was governed by a theocratic monarchy, while Mesopotamia was ruled by a traditional monarchy.
While describing the cultural among the people of Mesopotamia and Egypt, I learned the differences and similarities in culture. The birth of Mesopotamian Civilization began in c. 3000 B.C.E., in the valleys of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers of Southwest Asia. Mesopotamia is a Greek word and it means ‘between the rivers.’ In contrast, the birth of Egyptian Civilization began in c. 3100 B.C.E., in a valley of the Nile River in Northeastern Africa. Egypt is a Greek word and it means ‘House of the Spirit of Ptah.’ Since there are several categories in the cultures of the Mesopotamians and the Egyptians, I decided to narrows it to three categories: Religion, Writing, and Geography. The three categories will present the basis to compare cultural differences and similarities.
Mesopotamia and Egypt were some of the first agricultural civilizations to make a lasting impact on history, and while they were similar in many ways they were drastically different in the way women were perceived. The way Mesopotamia treated their women is a prime example of what most people think when talking about women in the B.C.E era. Women were treated very poorly in Mesopotamia. They were thought of slightly better than property, but still below men. Women were not allowed to marry for love, and before marriage, they were forced to wear veils in public to show modesty (Noonan).
Egypt and Mesopotamia had many different view on life their views on religion, geography, their government, their beliefs on the afterlife, their relationships between the gods and humans, and etc. The differences can be built off where they were built, the amount of land they had access to, the number of resources they had to, and how their environment was in everyday life. They also had similarities in the fact that they were hard working in their everyday life, the belief of what was a man’s responsibility and what was a females responsibility.
Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt are both cradles of civilization. Both contributed greatly to human development through their achievements, failures, peoples, scientific accomplishments, philosophies, religions, and contributions.
Civilizations, such as Mesopotamia and Egypt, although are unique and have differences, can also share common traits to help develop their foundation (Bentley, 2005). As these are two of the earliest civilizations, both share cities, government (political) systems, agriculture, religions, codes of laws, social systems, and even arts and architectures that make these two civilizations alike and can also set them apart from one another.
The most apparent difference was these civilizations’ distinct type of rule. Egypt had pharaohs as their kings or rulers. Pharaohs were seen as holy figures and treated as gods, which allowed ancient Egypt to have a single, unified governing body, combining church and state. Mesopotamia was divided into city-states with a ruler governing each area independently. This led to a more fragmented political structure with recurring clashes and wars. The story of the Mesopotamian era is one of war, feud, and collapse; whereas ancient Egypt was mostly unified, sustaining a stable and well-structured
The Egyptians and Mesopotamians settled where they did for very similar reasons, and it all involves vegetation and abundance of sources. The Egyptians settled where they did because the abundance of resources. They live by the Nile river which runs through Egypt. There is more than enough freshwater for them to use. There is a delta upstream from the river where a bunch of vegetation is and moist soil to farm.
The civilizations of ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia and China were all different but were also developed similar ways of doing things. The political, economic and intellectual outlooks of these ancient peoples say a lot about their ways of life. The religious views of Egypt and Mesopotamia were rather different.
Economically, these two civilizations both shared prosperous success in similar manners. One connection between Mesopotamia and Egypt is that they both manipulated their designated rivers to perform critical trade operations by using them as routes. They were able to communicated and send goods with other civilizations in a farther location via the river system. Also, these two civilizations were very productive in the agricultural field due to the strategically created irrigation systems that provided water to their fertile soils to provide lush vegetations in Nile and Sumer. The one difference between Mesopotamia and Egypt in terms of economy is that the Nile government controlled most if not all of the trading monopoly, and they had their citizens pay substantial taxes.
Mesopotamia and Egypt show there similarities in the aspects of economic, political, and social elements with amazing similarities at a broad level until you look at specific comparison.
They brought writing, the wheel, the calendar, and astronomy. Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt allowed human beings, for the first time in history, to settle down in one place and farm instead of chasing their often dangerous wild animal food sources. Both civilizations shared similarities and differences in their climate, politics, intellect, religion, arts and architecture, technology, economics, and social structures, that allowed them to flourish and become two of the most well-known ancient civilizations.
