Centuries ago, the Bible was written when God gave his only son who died on the cross for our sins. “Our” is standing for everyone in the world that God calls his children. Jesus Christ died on the cross with active and passive obedience. This means Jesus actively kept Gods Law for us, which we live by today. Jesus passively took away all of our sins, he died on the cross to take them away and we receive righteousness. Even if we are un-deserving, when Jesus died on the cross for everyone, it gives everyone the opportunity to have everlasting life with God. Baptism is one of the few things that God asks of everyone. The purpose of Baptism is to cleanse your sins and you will be forgiven. With the blessing of God, the Holy Water cleanses the person’s sins and they are given everlasting life.

Sacramentality, mediation, and communion – three properties of Catholicism that are central to its understanding. Like Catholicism, these three properties are universal and can be found in the writings of Catholic authors dating back thousands of years ago. From the first written Scriptures found in the Bible to the modern day works of writers like Flannery O’Connor, these three properties can be found portrayed in works of both fiction and nonfiction. However, these properties are not always easy to find for the untrained mind or even to differentiate for those who do have a better understanding. Sacramentality is the notion that all of creation potentially bears the presence of God. Essentially, one experiences the invisible God through the visible world. Mediation goes hand in hand with sacramentality. It occurs when God is not only present in creation but also works through it. Instead of something symbolizing or reminding you of God, it actually speaks to you and brings you closer to Him. The last property of the Catholic Church is communion. Communion is God’s way of reaching us through the communities in which we live. All three of these properties have close ties to each other. Flannery O’Connor portrays all three – sacramentality, mediation, and communion – in her book Mystery and Manners.

The nine layers went in order, Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Anger, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, and Treachery. Purgatory is not a pleasant place. It is known to be more like Hell than it is Heaven. Purgatory is a location where people go to “get rid of their sins” before proceeding to Heaven. Most Christians do not believe in Purgatory. Christians believe in going straight to Heaven or straight to Hell, no in between. Christians believe that a person dies only once and then proceeds to Heaven to face God’s judgment. If that person accepted God in his life and was washed clean of his/her sins, then that person will be granted acceptance into Heaven. If that person did not meet those qualifications, then that person will be banished to Hell forever.

When God created the universe, he then created humans in His own image. In the beginning everything was perfect. Humans did not know about evil at all until their eyes were opened when they ate the fruit from the tree of life, known as the apple. Once that happened, sin was birthed into us causing us to not only die spiritually, but later experiencing death physically. After us humans die, we either go to heaven or we go to hell for all eternity. Our destiny determines by how we choose to live and what we choose to believe. Our actions should match our beliefs. If we do not believe in God almighty and have faith in his Son, Jesus, then we will go to hell for all eternity.

Based on Dante’s standards and how I have been living my life thus far, the place for me in Hell is in Limbo, the first level of Hell for “Virtuous Pagans”. In other words, I am a good person and live a life of virtue; however, because I do not practice any religion, I do not deserve a place in heaven, and will therefore join the ranks of the great poets and philosophers such as Aristotle, Socrates, Homer, and Virgil, the representation of Dante’s human reason and an important character in The Inferno. The inhabitants of Limbo don’t actually suffer through eternal torment, but rather, live without hope. This is definitely understandable and just, as it would be strange and cruel to have to punish those who have not sinned. It would also be unheard of to send those who did not believe in God to a holy place such as Heaven.

Imagine yourself, finished in this world and ready to go into the internal life. How do you think God will judge you? Were you someone generous, humility, loving, gentle, active, temperance, or Chasity? Do you believe that God would be proud in every single thing you have down on this earth? Well, for the most part, no everyone is Jesus and have all of those qualities. That is why Dante have written the world of Purgatory. Purgatory is a place after earth is a transformation process that helps every saved soul to perfect themselves for God. Through this process of transformation in Purgatory, a soul must accept, forgive, and learn from their sin in order to be in Heaven.

For example, many people believe that purgatory is part of their afterlife. “[T]he Catholic Church defines purgatory as a ‘purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven,’ which is experienced by those ‘who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified’” (Brom). For Catholics, this place in between Heaven and Hell is where they repent for their sins before moving on to Heaven. Because this middle ground exists, people following this religion may not focus as much on repenting for their sins while they are living. Instead, Catholics may wait to ask for forgiveness for all their wrongdoings. Moreover, they may feel more free to take actions that negatively impact others because they think they have the luxury of seeking forgiveness in the afterlife.

Spirit baptism has been an important topic in the Church for a really long time and while we discuss this topic we always have several questions rising about this issue. Churches have different perspective about the way they address the issue. The common question which arises with this topic are that, some of the Churches claim that spirit baptism is demonstrated after receiving the gifts of tongues and the other issues which often raises is that its relation with the word.

I wonder why the Church has not taken an official position on the question of limbo? In fact, I also wonder why limbo is not mentioned anywhere in the bible? Did the Church forget about infants that unhappily do not make it until baptism, to become clear of original sin? Unfortunately, it is extremely uncomfortable to consider this particular concept. Limbo is essentially Catholics are in the possession of believing that infants who died without baptism, thus in original sin, went to limbo, a state of natural happiness, since they had not committed any actual sin, but without the joy of the beatific vision (CTM p. 201).
