The Similarities of Lady Macbeth and Janis Ian
Lady Macbeth and Mean Girls… what is similar? Are these two related in any way? Do the two have anything in common at all? Lady Macbeth is an important character in Shakespeare’s play Macbeth. Then, there is Tina Fey’s Mean Girls- a movie based on high school drama. How could a Shakespearean play from 1606 resemble a group of crazy high schoolers from 2004?
Macbeth was a play written in 1606 by William Shakespeare. It was performed for King James around this time. The play was fabricated from historic content, making it a tragedy rather than a history. Macbeth is about real people and is Shakespeare’s shortest play. Macbeth represents guilt, desire,

Lady Macbeth continues to degrade Macbeth when she learns of this news. Duncan arrives to the castile Macbeth does indeed consider the idea of killing Duncan, but decides not to. When Lady Macbeth discovers this, she is furious. She decides to do it herself and makes a plan for it. She plans to do all of these while Duncan is sleeping. First, she must get the guards drunk, this way they are unaware. She will then kill Duncan and put the blood on the guards, to make it look like they did it. This is one of the things that she says about: “Alack, I am afraid they have awaked. And tis not done! Th’ attempt and not the deed confounds us. Hark! I laid their daggers ready; he could not miss ‘em. Had he not resembled my father as he slept, I had done’t.” Next, Macbeth says “I have done the deed.” Macbeth killed Duncan, in the future Macbeth has extreme guilt for what he has done and it haunts …show more content…
She does all kinds of petty things and doesn’t take the credit for them. She still acts like she is Regina’s friend and continues to do these tricks on her. She costs Regina her boyfriend, her perfect body and much more. When called out on it, Cady will not take the blame (initially, at least).
Obviously, reading about both of these, you can already tell the similarities already. The characters as well as the plot of these two stories have many similarities. They are powerful, controlling and even manipulative. Regina makes everyone cater to her every need and want, this is what Lady Macbeth wants. Janis wants to practically kill someone, and Lady Macbeth does. Janis doesn’t want to be the one who is caught doing the bad things, neither does Lady Macbeth. Remember, Janis wanted to ruin Regina’s life? Janis didn’t think she was capable enough to do this. Therefore, she got Cady to do it for her. She put everything on Cady and took none of the blame. It kinda sounds familiar to the murder of Duncan, doesn’t it? Lady Macbeth practically did the same thing. She wanted Duncan to die and she wanted to kill him. She did not want the blame so she was going to put it on Duncan’s guards. When the time came to do the deed, she couldn’t handle it. She was in the same situation as Janis. Lady Macbeth couldn’t do it… so Macbeth did. Just like in Mean Girls, the real culprit did not take the blame. The guilt took over Macbeth and he could
This happens when Cady, along with her friend Janis, produces a plan to sabotage Regina after sacrificing the trust she has in her by making up a rumor about Aaron to make her look bad. “She saved this Kleenex you used and she said she’s going to do some kind of African voodoo on you to make you like her,” claims Regina. She starts hanging out with her and her friends ‘The Plastics,’ when she starts hanging out with them, we see a change in her personality, she starts dressing differently and she doesn’t do the things that she enjoys doing any more to fit in with them. This is when she sacrifices her friendship with Janis and Damian and the trust that they both have in her, she distances herself away from them and does things behind their backs. She arranges a small party at her house and invites her new friends, but everyone from school shows up.
Their plots have the same idea of committing crimes to stay in power. Lady Macbeth and Sarah share many characteristics. They are both very manipulative, they are able to control their husband’s actions. In Macbeth, the death of Duncan would have never happened if it was not for lady Macbeth.
When Macbeth first learns of his prophecy of becoming King of Scotland, he sends a letter to Lady Macbeth, who immediately thinks of the quickest way to get Macbeth onto the throne. She calls on the dark spirits to help her plan the murder of King Duncan and hopes that the darkness can be in her. She wishes so that she may be able to commit the murder with her husband and be free of the guilt afterwards. Lady Macbeth never doubts these murderous thoughts, showing that she is ambitious and power-hungry. She is also characterized as clever when she persuades Macbeth into committing the murder when he is unsure of doing the deed. Her strong-willed mind is also shown when she takes the daggers from Macbeth, who is too shaken up by what he had done, and she puts them back in Duncan’s chambers. After the murder, Lady Macbeth seems the least guilty of the two, and she can feel as if nothing has happened. Her character starts to change, however, when she feels unhappy in her position as queen. She starts to feel the regrets of killing King Duncan, and she begins to doubt herself. Lady Macbeth soon feels so guilty that she sleepwalks, talking in her sleep about her and her husband’s horrible deeds. This takes away from her powerful characterization in the beginning. Lady Macbeth goes from being a ruthless, dark woman to a guilt-burdened sleepwalker with little
The play Macbeth is a story in which many different themes are represented. A man named Macbeth becomes king of Scotland by murdering the former king, which leads to further violence, deceit, and corruption. It’s a story with different characters who personify power, deception, manipulation, and loyalty. Although it is certainly a very unique story, it also shares some similarities with the movie Mean Girls. Despite the different time periods, the plot and characters in Mean Girls truly reflect that of Macbeth. Between these two stories, there are several themes including deception, appearance vs. reality, and manipulation.
Macbeth is one of the many plays written by William Shakespear. It is considered as one of his greatest works for it's ever engaging story, Macbeth is also the most filmed/preformed of all of Shakespears' plays .‘Macbeth’ is set to be in Scotland; revolving around the main character, Macbeth. Macbeth's ambition leads him to commit murder after murder ; in order to be King.He first murders the former king, Duncan, his friend Banquo and later the family of the nobleman, Macduff.
The story begins when Cady meets two friends, Janis and Damien, who show Cady the ways of high school. This is a very normal way in reality and most would not think much of it. Unconsciously, Freud would say, that there is some sort of motive behind this behavior and that there is no possible way that there doing it just to be nice. But as the story goes on we do find out that Janis used to be best friends with Regina (queen bee of “the plastics”) and that their friendship ended due to Regina spreading a rumor that Janis was a lesbian. When Cady is asked by Regina to hang out she is very hesitant to do so and tells Janis what is happening. Janis gets overly excited and instantly her id, the pleasure seeking principle, of her behavior jumps into play causing her to completely ignore
Lady Macbeth gives Macbeth the first push to kill Duncan, and she wants to be ruthless, feel no remorse so that she and her husband will successfully kill Duncan. She desires to “stop up th’ access and passage to remorse” (Shakespeare 1.5.51) so that she will not feel bad about the murder. She persuades Macbeth to kill Duncan, but he struggles afterward when he does not follow the plan and forgets to put back the daggers he cannot face the evil act he has committed. Lady Macbeth is satisfied after Macbeth is king, but that is not enough for him any longer. Eventually the killings take a toll on Macbeth’s mental state, and the guilt he begins to feel is unbearable. Macbeth kills Duncan and then says “this is a sorry sight”
The play "Macbeth" by Shakespeare centers around the main character, Macbeth, Thane of Glamis and Cawdor, and his desperate thirst for power, pushing him to kill his cousin Duncan, the king of Scotland, in act 2. Macbeth and his wife, who orchestrated Duncans murder herself, kill Duncan in his sleep and frame the two guards outside of the king's bedroom to make it look as though they were hired to do so. They then kill the innocent guards as 'revenge' for Duncan in order to keep their innocence a secret. After Duncan is dead Macbeth swears he can hear Duncans voice accusing him of his murder saying he'll sleep no more. This is crucial to the plot because it is foreshadowing the main theme of the story which has to do with supernatural, ironic karma for the evil deeds of the main characters.
Shakespeare's "Macbeth" holds many hidden themes within its already exuberant plot. The first of these surrounds the murder of Duncan and the role that both Lady Macbeth and Macbeth himself played. However, the true guilt of the murder can fall on either character. Although Macbeth physically committed the crime, it was Lady Macbeth that pushed him to his limits of rational thought and essentially made fun of him to lower his esteem. With Macbeth's defenses down, it was an easy task for Lady Macbeth to influence Duncan's murder and make up an excuse as to why she could not do it herself. The guilt of Duncan's murder can be placed firmly on the head on Lady Macbeth.
Macbeth is confused as he is arguing with himself on what he should do. He states reasons not to kill Duncan, because Macbeth is his noble kinsmen and the act would bring dishonor. However, he also states reason why he should kill him, because Macbeth will then become king and fulfill the witches ' fortune. Lady Macbeth, who appears in the beginning as the driving force for the murder of King Duncan, also develops internal conflict. At first, Lady Macbeth seems to be a woman of extreme confidence and will. But, as situations become more and more unstable in the play, guilt develops inside her. For instance, she exclaims; "Wash your hands. Put on your nightgown. / Look not so pale. I tell you again, Banquo 's / Burried; he cannot come out on 's grave" (Shakespeare V, ii, 65-67). Lady Macbeth sleepwalks and frets about her evil wrongdoings because she is extremely guilty of her influence on Macbeth to commit the murder. Lady Macbeth reacts emotionally and dwells on her actions as guilt eats at her soul.
She knows that if her husband listen to her and kill Duncan, she is strong enough to carry out the murder and erase all the proof, so that
In order for Cady and Janis plan to work, Cady has to make some decisions in order to destroy Regina George. Cady will have to take on a role of liking and becoming friends with Regina. That means that Cady will have to follow some of the traditions the plastics are known for. Also, Cady will have to present herself to Regina and the plastic as one of them, but she also has to act different towards other people.
Macbeth was written between 1606 and 1611 by William Shakespeare. It is about a Scottish nobleman, Macbeth, who is told a fortune by three Witches who tell him that he will be king. When he tells his wife, Lady Macbeth they plot, and murder King Duncan. Macbeth then became king, as was for told.
. It is already the time, the night has arrived to KILL Duncan! We had planned that we would get Duncan’s guards drunk to the point of being unconscious. After that I would take their two daggers and place them ready so that Macbeth could commit the murder, then replace them in the hands of two guards smeared with blood. Macbeth was convinced!
That night Macbeth ends up killing Duncan. Just before the murder Macbeth is walking down the hall when he has a vision of a dagger with a bloody tip, which is pointed for Duncan’s room. He thinks to himself, “Art tho not, fatal vision, sensible To feeling as to sight? Or art thou but a dagger of the mind, a false creation” (II.1.36-38). During the murder Macbeth makes a mistake that angers Lady Macbeth. He has forgotten to leave the daggers with Duncan’s guards, and she must now go and return them. Initially Macbeth is upset over the murder, but Lady Macbeth tells him it is as easy to forget about as washing the blood away with water. This first murder shows the strong character of Lady Macbeth and the influence she has over her husband.
