Comparing George And Lennie In John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men

In the novel “Of mice and men”, the two main characters are George and Lennie. George is an everyday normal working man who has a companion, Lennie. Lennie is a little different, he was a mental illness. So He has too look up to George for help. Though out the book George looks after Lennie, he tells him where to go and he overall helps him with things. Even with Lennie’s illness, George continues too look after him. George even stayed by Lennie’s side when Lennie touched that girls dress which turned the whole town against them both. This relationship can be seen in two ways, one in which it's just a really strong friendship which has its advantages and disadvantages and two in which they are like a family (brothers).

The reason I say this is because they love each other like brothers. They both look after and help each other which is what brothers do. You also might be thinking that brothers also fight and get mad at each other. Well, Lennie might not get mad at George, but George gets mad at Lennie. The reason he does is because he always has to tell Lennie not to do stuff and when Lennie doesn't listen he gets in trouble. When Lennie does this George gets mad and starts yelling at Lennie. Even though George does this he still loves Lennie, like every brother secretly does. This is how their relationship is also like a family.

In the past few paragraphs I talked about how George and Lennie’s friendship has its advantages, like how they both look after each other and care for each other and how the both need each other, and disadvantages, like how Lennie’s disabilities are a burden to George and how George has to do everything.
