Within Joyce Nelson’s essay, “TV News: A Structure of Reassurance”, Nelson criticizes the TV news structure that perpetually disconnects current events from their historical background through comforting anchorpeople partnered with advanced technology to create a TV program that minimizes the important implications of current events. Though lacking the amount of information that a print news publication can maintain, the TV news can convey immediate information through technological advances of modern TV equipment to allow the medium to remain competitive. I'm a journalist and I am trying to write about the titanic. My two disasters outlets are history History Channel and Nat Geo magazines. Today my disaster is the titanic and if you didn’t know the titanic was a huge ship that hit an iceberg. The ship killed 2,200 people and was a fatality. The ship hit in the North Atlantic Ocean. It sank from 4/14/17-4/15/19. I choose these web sites because they are both very used resources. The titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean.

The biggest breaking story I chose was about the Afghans heading to the polls to vote amid the threats of insurgent attacks. On the CNN website, it seemed like the story was less detailed and descriptive than the other sites. Even though it covered the situation in Afghanistan, the information was delivered in a more passive way than FOXNews and MSNBC, almost as if it was a more opinion-based article. I noticed also that some of the key points that were covered on the CNN site were also covered in the other sites. Information on how many candidates were competing for election and how many seats were available in parliament seemed to be a point that all of the sites included. Paragraph 4: the strengths and the weakness to the media outlet. CNN news and History Channel both provide informations and facts but they both take out little pieces of informations. CNN news may not be true to other media sources because media like ABC news and Chicago news other media sources may have the same details. History channel will give the time of the 9/11 attack and the day it happened and the place it was took at. History channel sometimes may not give you all the details and more informations.

On April 14th, 1912, the Titanic set sail and crashed into an iceberg. About 705 passengers were rescued but 1500 died that night by freezing in the waters or sinking with the ship.

Two major disasters that shocked the world included the sinking of the Titanic and the Chicago Fire which destroyed almost the whole city. The sinking of the Titanic, known as the "unsinkable ship", killed more than one thousand five hundred people making this a mind-blowing event when it tragically sunk. Current events occur daily and only the news can give one updates throughout the day. On April 21, 2017, a comparison was made between two news channels, PBS news hour at 6:00 p.m. and Fox news program at 10:00 p.m. on channel 2. It is clear that in each article I was only getting one side not the full report of the story. However, I do feel that CNN.com did a more accurate look at my topic, which was the Pope at the Paris Summit. The reason I believe that U.S. News’s article is not as good of a news source because when reading it, reads more like a complaint, or a letter to the editor type article than an actual news article on the topic of the Paris Summit. The U.S. News article only had one source and he was a self proclaimed official source, where as the CNN.com piece actually had quotes from several of the different members that were at the summit as well has official comments from Pope Francis. Also the CNN.com piece was worded nicely and had an air throughout the piece of just wanting to give the facts of the story, whereas the U.S News article was force feeding complaints and used wording that almost half way through I just wanted to stop reading because it was an opinion packed piece and only really a few times hinted at facts. Therefore, I would have to say that the CNN.com piece not only gave me facts that I wanted to learn it also peaked my interest in the topic and made me want to go out and research more about the topic from other sites, which I feel is good journalism because it’s hooked the reader unlike the U.S. News piece that was not very factual and made me want to stop

Since society has become so dependent on technology, a greater amount of individuals get their actual news online and especially through social media. As many of the public know, you cannot trust what people online are saying. Since individuals are so accustomed to getting the news online, many of them tend to believe what they just happen to scroll across on Twitter and Facebook or any other sort of social media. Finding actual facts and truths on the news have become so difficult now, due to all of the millions of different sites and places where we can get our news from.
