Athens and Sparta were both great city states one with power one with knowledge. however they have many differences and similarities. Spartans had the most powerful army in all of Greece at the time. Athens had the best schooling system in Greece. Sparta and Athens are both very similar and very different here's how. To start off, yes people from Athens and Sparta did go to school but not for the same thing. Spartan boys went to school to be amazing warriors. Boys in Athens went to school to learn about music, poetry and literature. What is most surprising is that people in Athens and in Sparta both spoke the same language. Athens is believed to have had the best education program in Greece. Sparta is believed to have had the best
The city-states Athens and Sparta were rivals in ancient Greece. Geographically the two were very close to each other, but they had a very different economy, cultural values, and way of governing. Both city-states had two very different ways of doing things. I will be highlighting the major differences.
In Sparta, women were better educated and had more freedom as opposed to Athens where women's rights were limited, they received a minimal education, there were arranged marriages, and it was frowned upon for them to leave the house. The education in Sparta was direct military training beginning at age seven while Athens taught the things we learn with the addition of rhetoric. They had many similarities in geography by both living in the valleys of mountains which gave them a very similar climate and resources. They also shared the same opinion on non-Greeks, believing that Greece was superior to all other
Athens and Sparta are the two famous city-states in Ancient Greece. The Athens was more superior then Sparta. The Athenians were stronger because they had a better geography, government, cultural achievements, and I would rather live in the Athens.
Athens and Sparta were both city-states in Ancient Greece. A city-state is a small independent country with its own laws and government. Although they were only 150 miles apart, they were very different from one another. They each have their own values, geography, government, economy, education and how they treated women and slaves. If given the chance to go back in time, I would suggest that Greeks settled in Sparta because of their better education, better treatment of women and slaves and better geography.
Athens and Sparta by Mr.Duckworth states, “Where they differed was that while Spartans had militaristic values, Athenians were democratic.” This shows that Spartans valued the military, while Athens valued the people. Athens would have been a better place to live because they were a democracy, they had great infrastructure, and they provided education to all. Therefore, Athens would have been a better place to live.
Everyone in ancient Sparta had almost identical lives, while in Athens, each citizen live how they please. Sparta and Athens were the two most famous city-states in ancient Greece. Yet they just so happen to be rivals. While Sparta is known for their military, Athens is known for their literature and plays. Each place is different in so many ways but thought everything Athens treated their people better than Sparta because they gave them opportunities, never hurt them, never killed them, and believed that being kind was better than winning wars.
The perception we have, it that Athens people was intellectual and devoted literature, arithmetics and the arts, giving us the most known philosophers of human history, such as Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, Xenophon. While Sparta gave us the most famous warriors including Lycurgus, the known founder of militaristic Sparta society and of course Leonidas, the brave, that lead an army of men to death against the Persians, in notorious Battle of the
Here in Athens, a very safe and well thought out education system is provided for your children. The purpose of education in Athens is to prepare their citizens for both peace and war. Your son will be trained in music, art, literature, science, math, politics, sports and gymnastics. Along with 2 years of military training at the age of 18. The Spartans in the other hand, their purpose of education is to merely to produce and maintain a powerful army only for the purpose of war. Sparta’s schooling is very harsh, your son would be taken away from you and forced to take part in the military. where they will be provided with nothing but some clothing, barely enough food to survive and not even shoes. Also, between the ages of 18 and 20, Spartan males had to pass a fitness test that consisted of fitness, military ability, and leadership skills. If he didn't pass, he became a person who had no political rights and was not even considered a
Ancient Greece was comprised of small city-states, of which Sparta and Athens were two. Athens was renowned as a center of wisdom and learning. The people of Athens were interested in arts, music, and intellectual pursuits. Sparta, on the other hand, was recognized for its military strength. A Spartan's life was centered on the state, because he lived and died to serve the state. Although the competing city-states of Sparta and Athens were individually different as well as governmentally diverse, they both managed to become dominating powers in Ancient Greece.
Athenians vs. Spartans There are many things that are the same within cultures and countries, but there are also many things that are found different. The Spartans and Athenians are two great examples of this. Between their government, military, and how they treat their woman, there are many differences. The Spartan government is an oligarchy, meaning the government has little power over the people.
Athens and Sparta were both cities in ancient Greece, logically comprised of several others small cities which were under controlled of the both greater cities even whether Athens was considered as the greatest. Both had their own governmental structures and they had also similarities in some aspects, and on the other hand, they could be different as a matter of fact. They had a governmental scheme or kind of monarchy.
Another reason that Athens is better than Sparta is because of its military.Spartans education was military only. They believed that education was useless and all that is needed is killing people in order to survive. Athens here were into the military as well as arts. Athens in the Persian wars The battle of Marathon and the Battle of Salamis were outnumbered by the Persians. But Athens still crushed them without the support of anyone. Because Athens military was equal even though they weren’t a military-based system like Sparta, it was still better than
Everyone has heard of the two Greek cities: Athens and Sparta. Athens is prominent for its architecture, art, and the Acropolis. Sparta is widely known in pop culture and for its military reputation. Together, they could be known for being in the Peloponnesian War. These are two popular cities with different reasons for being known. There are numerous aspects to look at but the main focus will be in its politics, societies, and economies. Athens and Sparta differed in politics, societies, and economies but had very few similarities.
They were both cities in Greece. They both have large slave populations and treated slaves equally. They were both city-states. Each trained their boys for battle, though Spartans did so much earlier in life. Both Athens and Sparta required political contributors to be male, citizens and free. They both also consisted of Assemblies that served as the most basic form of political contribution. Both governments condoned slavery, even though entirely different forms of
The ancient civilization of Greece contained many different city-states; two of these city-states were Sparta and Athens. Sparta and Athens were different in their values, politics, and societies. Sparta was focused on their military, discipline, and to have a strong state. Athens was a democratic state that was peaceful and where women were open to culture and democracy. How do these two city-states differ?
