Epic Hero This essay is going to be comparing how the character Beowulf and Roy Hobbs are alike and different. Statistics show that there is a lot of similarities between these two reads and both a great example of an Epic Hero archetype. They both show strong characteristics of a Epic Hero but are different people in general and their goals or priorities in what they are trying to accomplish are completely different. Beowulf has strength like no other. He is your typical epic hero. He Saves the day in a majestic and seeming to be an impossible epic way. Like for a couple examples of his strength is how he ripped off grendel's arm when he tried to run away. No normal person would be able to do that. Another example is when he picked up the mighty sword when he slew grendel's mother as everyone was appalled by his strength. Beowulf is a very good example of an epic hero. He Is very strong and it seems like he does a lot stuff that is not possible and is a very good leader and persuasive. People follow in his footsteps because he is a great influence on the people. Beowulf is in an older time where people were not as advanced as us and have to fight all the time and there are an evil beast to slay. They way people act or are treated are a lot different than the way people are treated in Roy Hobbs. The people in the book of Beowulf are a lot more barbaric, like when Beowulf ripped off grendel's arm and they hung it up on front of the door for everyone to see. Then when
