“A friendship is the most beautiful bond that two people can share, but when a friend feels betrayed it can turn into a living hell”
“Vanessa, come one!” “ We’re going to be late for work.” “Cynthia, can you please relax we always get there before anyone else, sometimes my body also needs a little break to be able to deal with all these crazy kids.” “Come on Vanessa, we can’t complain we knew that being teachers was not something easy but we still went for it.” “Yea, I guess you’re right,” said Vanessa with a frown in her face.
Vanessa and Cynthia had been childhood friends they have always shared everything from toys, books, money to clothes, and were always part of the same circle of friends. They are both Mexican Americans and both considered their background to be something fundamental in their upbringing. Although Cynthia and Vanessa share some similarities, they also come from different family structures; Vanessa comes from a family where domestic violence has been a constant and promiscuity has been something she has been exposed to from an early age by her father’s affairs with different women.

Even her old friends are not even cordial with her because of an incident that happened at a party.“Her eyes meet mine for a second.”I hate you,” she mouths silently. She turns her back and laughs with her friends” (5). Despite all the negativity that is going on with her old friends, Melinda finally finds a friend that makes her feel like she belongs again but once again, another friendship dies right along with Melinda’s hope of feeling normal again. “You don’t like anything. Escaping from the past, focusing on the present, and fearing the future, one enters the honors English classroom taught by Mrs. Roll, the tenth grade pre-AP English teacher. Because summer flew to its end, students became one step closer to their biggest fear- school. By the time one reached Mrs. Roll’s class, the quote, “I won’t be your friend, but I will be friendly,” was drilled regularly in one’s mind. Everyday in the class, there would be daily reminders of this warning. To be in her honors class was a risk, but also the wisest choice of them all. Not everything will go the way it is planned, but a little critiquing might get the task completed. With Mrs. Roll preaching to students day in and day out, she barely has time to remember all their names; therefore, what time does she have to be their friend? However, she does contain time to be friendly.
Kate is bullying Jenny in a way saying mean words or phrases and Jenny is getting very upset and knows she need to take action. My being mad at Kate gave me the courage to say to her…”. Jenny got the courage and strength to stand up for herself. Jenny than said, “ “ Look I’m sorry but you have to leave now”... Even as the words were coming out of my mouth I couldn’t believe I was saying them.”. Kate was giving Jenny a hard time and Jenny knew it. She needed a push to get her to fight back. Jenny found out that standing up for your self can affect you in a good way and you don’t have to be controlled by
Twyla and Roberta are two very different people, but bond in very similar ways. They become friends very suddenly, not because of how old they are, but because both have a mother. Twyla's mom is a dancer, and Roberta's mother is too sick to raise her. They later meet in their twenties in a not so settling way. Twyla had been bussing tables while Roberta had been living large about to meet Jimi Hendrix. Twyla was embarrassed at her long past friend and was ashamed to show herself. Five years later they meet at a grocery store where they both have kids and are settled down. They decided to go vet coffee where it starts off both are different races so they take opposite sides of the debate. Roberta accuses Twyla of abusing one of the girls at the orphanage. Twyla only remembers sitting and watching the girl get abused by other girls, and Roberta's memories start to come back to her. This holds their relationship together for the next five years when
In life, people make, break and regain a myriad of relationships. As we continue this process, we will find that not all confrontations and friendships leave us with a positive impact. Although there will be a multitude of unsatisfactory bonds, it is imperative that people are able to seek out friends that will always be there for them. The ability to find and maintain supportive friendships is one that Melinda was not always able to do and it often kept her from being able to break out of her gloomy shell after her being raped. When one has healthy relationships, they experience happy emotions, such as feeling included. Melinda failed to recognize the benefits of healthy relationships, as she often excluded herself from social events. After a basketball game at the high school, David Petrakis, Melinda’s lab partner in science, invited her over for pizza. Melinda’s mind was torn about what she should do. One part of her was thinking that she should have gone to have pizza with David, while the second part of her mind was thinking that she was scared of boys and that she would be better off
“It was a mistake.” These words were expressed so confidently with an unwavering voice and the belief of honesty in her best friend’s own words. While it normally takes the average person more than once to learn from his or her mistakes, her best friend, Karman, still has yet to realize her wrongdoings. It became a routine for her--keeping secrets from the other and becoming distant. With every passing day, another excuse found its way to Claudia. Claudia grew increasingly irritated at Karman’s constant trivial reasons for being distant. As she continued to resent Karman for not giving her enough attention, Claudia realized that being angry doesn’t hurt anybody as much as it hurts herself and that the only way to move on from this situation is to have a conversation with Karman. When Claudia eventually talked to Karman about her problem, Karman understood and explained to Claudia that she has been having family problems. Karman was sorry that she did not consider their friendship and will in the future. Both Claudia and Karman experienced epiphanies. Claudia had an epiphany that silently fuming only perpetuated unpleasant feelings and that it is better to talk out your feelings rather than keeping it to yourself.
During the course of summer I read two books, Alas Babylon and The Color of Water. My initial response to hearing about these books isn’t one that would please the author or anyone who enjoyed reading them. But once I began to read and actually imagine my life as the main protagonist in the books my opinion about them began to change by the time I finished the first page.
Friendships is a poem by Erica Fryberg that can relate to almost anybody who has experienced real and fake friendships, as it is about the speaker’s perspective on friendships, and the difference between having real and fake friends, forced friendships and real friendships. Through a comparison of friendships and furniture, the poet uses a humorous tone to describe friendships, making the speaker relatable. I particularly enjoyed this, as on a personal level I was able to relate to this, as a student at a school where teachers attempted to force unnatural relationships multiple times. Overall, this poem was an engaging poem, which, through language and poetic devices, clearly described the difference between real and fake friendships.
Vanessa also realizes that trying to gain more knowledge and understanding about the Native culture through Piquette won’t get her anywhere because Piquette is as clueless as her. She accepts that her understanding towards the tradition is not going anywhere further than what the white society views it. However, Vanessa acknowledges the effects the white society has done to the Tonnerres’ family and the Natives. Piquette had the mindset of an adult while growing up due to the struggles her family has undergone. “’The mother’s not there,’ my father replied. ‘She took off a few years back. Can’t say I blame her. Piquette cooks for them, and she says Lazarus would never do anything for himself as long as she’s there” (Laurence
At an early age Vanessa’s naivety of Piquettes ethnicity prohibits her from seeing Piquettes struggle with her sense of lacking belonging. This causes the two characters to clash throughout the story in regards to Vanessa's false interpretation of Piquettes identity. Throughout the story Vanessa tends to
Internal conflict is represented throughout Macbeth following his descent from hero to decapitated tyrant. In Act I.vii Macbeth is debating with himself whether to kill the king or not which reveals internal conflict between his virtue and his hamartia, ambition. He says, “that we but teach bloody instructions, which being taught, return to plague the inventor”, this shows Macbeth focusing on the practicalities of killing Duncan rather than the ethics or morality of it, he is more worried of the possibility it could lead to his own murder, this portrays a moment of clarity that foreshadows his own fate. The phrase “teach bloody instructions” is vocabulary of war and revenge which gives a hint of a soldier 's mindset. He later goes to say “i am his kinsman and his subject, strong both against the deed; then, as his host, who should against his murderer shut the door, not bear the knife myself.”, structurally he has now moved on to the ethics and morality of the murder, he knows it’s wrong showing he still has a moral compass however the morality was a later thought showing that his morals have been mixed up and shows a hint of a psychotic mind. He then leaves us with the line “I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o’erleaps itself and falls on the other”, this conveys self awareness, he knows his major flaw is his ambition, the word “vaulting” suggests his ambition is so strong that it jumps out of him and drives him into situations
The school year approached its end. Another summer to spend alone by myself. The cycle had been repeating since I was in grade school. Sadness choked me as I returned home and shut my door. Every year, the resolution was the same: I would try to make friends next year; however, every year, I felt myself falling back down into the same trap. By the time high school began, I no longer felt the numb sensation of sadness or the flow of tears as the final day of May became the last day I talked with my “friends.” I no longer expected to make any friends, or, more accurately, I no longer expected to be able to make any friends. The sheer possibility of befriending an individual appeared to me as foreign as speaking in latin. When I walked into school, what should have been a site of chatter, opportunity, and growth appeared to me as a form of imprisonment and torture; however, unbeknownst to me, I did have friends; something of which I did not recognize until years passed by. I grown attached to certain conversations; there were times where I felt the need to initiate a conversation rather than waiting for someone else to make one. It was not until one of my friends told me,”We’re your friends aren’t we?” when I realized I was not longer
You don’t know what I can do!” said Jenna back to her. She ran to her friend’s bunk, Jody didn’t want to make it a big complication out of it so she didn’t worry about it. She never got her bunk changed, but it didn’t matter because she would always sleep over her friends’ bunk. I wanted to relax this summer and was not going to let someone give me a hard time, so we never talked much. Two weeks were nearly over and our parents were going to come visit us in a day or two. I started to be nice to Jenna and she was nice to me, but I sensed that she didn’t want to be friends. She had a problem with my friend Lauren. At this time we were all ready to kill each other. I remember an argument that Jenna had with Lauren, they were yelling at each other and it only got worse by the second. I came up to them and started to hear what they were saying, since I was on lauren’s side, I yelled at Jenna “What is wrong with you!” “You can’t yell at me like that, you don’t know who I am!” said Jenna Then I said “I don’t care who you are” “I can make your life miserable" she said. At this point I was thinking to myself that this girl has major problems thinking she can do and say whatever she wants. I started to feel sorry for her. “I
