Introduction
On August 17, 2015, I had the opportunity to attend Fayetteville Technical Community College’s (FTCC) ribbon cutting of their campus cafeteria. Not only was the ribbon cutting taking place, but the revealing of the campus cafeteria name was designated for this event as well. Trojan Eatery, symbolic of the campus mascot, was derived from Michael Morrison a student who submitted the winning name of the new cafeteria. This paper discusses my reflection of a community group visit as it relates to the purpose of the group, the theory underpinning the group, a discussion of the leadership, and other dynamics of the group that are relevant. In addition, five questions are displayed that I now have about group work because of the group

Keen the president of FTCC gave a speech, but while he was giving the speech campus security was visible making sure participants could hear Dr. Keen and that everyone was safe. Campus security was also awaiting the arrival of participants such as FTCC campus board members, saving parking spaces for these individuals, and guiding them to the main event location. In addition, other staff members assisted with ensuring students and individuals within the community had appropriate directions to the event. Customer service is an imperative part of any group, and there was a photo booth set up that allowed participants the opportunity to receive a free portrait keychain that would assist as a discount ticket when utilized at the Trojan Eatery. It was enjoyable watching the different dynamics that the group had to offer, the culinary department served fruit, cake, and water free of charge, campus security had the responsibility of ensuring the safety of the participants and providing directions, students enjoyed the free food and taking portraits, and staff enjoyed the event as well.
Five Questions
After having the opportunity to complete my community group reflection visit, there were questions that needed attention, those being:
1) Where were the contractors, interior designers, and architect? Why were they not included in the opening of the Trojan Eatery? Were they not invited?
2) How effective has the opening of the Trojan Eatery been in assisting with providing a community environment for students, faculty, staff, and the residing community?
3) Why are there food trucks such as The Wing Company on campus directly across from the Trojan
In this group there were no disruptive members. I filled the role of an observer, I offered feedback at the end of the session. The counselor filled the role of standard setter. There was an encourager, a harmonizer, an expediter, and a follower.
Last year, I was excited to see N-Rich open. I toured inside and out, and saw that it increased my options to buy healthy food on campus. Though there’s valid argument that N-Rich’s variety is small, for the first time in my college career, I did not have to travel over a mile to buy an onion.
Wendy, the chair of the School of Business, entertains the faculty at her home each semester and has a holiday party at the end of December for the faculty and their families. When a faculty member is promoted or has a paper published in an exceptionally prestigious journal, Wendy hosts a “Social hour” at her house. She also sponsors a picnic for the faculty and graduate students at the start of the fall semester to let them get acquainted with each other.
For Aramark to improve their performances of raising revenue from previous years, they should start off from changing their image to the students. Currently, UNLV students do not have an exceeding image about the Dining Commons for their bad reputations like food quality and service. They should first provide better quality food products; it would also help to increase the variety of the menu. This could involve a wider choice of fruits, vegetables, grains, sandwich, and other main course meals other than burgers and pizza. The Dining Commons can provide a small station targeting the healthy eaters who favor healthier menu choices; for example, energy bowls are demanded by many teens and young adults who like to eat healthy and
Many students like going off campus because the school food is not very appetizing many students have complained about the food. One of the main reasons why students complain is because some students receive food that has gone bad. My experience with this is one time during lunch I got my plate of food and they had
The food at our lovely HVHS is approved by professionals plus the food here is healthier than the food off campus. Students go out to eat and waste money while the food here is free. I suppose students never heard the saying “free food is always good”. The food at HVHS has just the right amount of portions that the students need.
The CFYE student employee retreat is time spent interacting with fellow students and learning some of the small but important aspects of being a student leader. In general, the main idea of the weekend and what I learned was the importance and the value of teamwork. In many of my other activities, I relied on group interaction and sometimes teamwork but it was not always the main focus. The course of events over this trip were all designed to help understand, develop and foster teamwork. The events and activities, I feel, developed gradually over the course of the days starting with smaller groups interactions and working towards larger and all-inclusive interactions. When the day started, we were instructed to meet our fellow student employees
In the Luskin area we have many varieties of food to choose from including: McDonald’s, Winchell's, 7 Eleven, Taco’s El Unico, Fresh and Meaty, Tumby’s, Taco Bell, and many mini markets and gas stations. These businesses are a big influence on many of us here at Luskin. I know many people who go to all of these during the week whether it’s in the morning or after school. We also have two family vans that come here after school and provide snacks to the students for reasonable prices and they are very chill. Everyone at this school helps these businesses and these businesses help us. We give and receive from each other and that’s why these local businesses are important to us at Luskin.
While it is a volunteer based organization, our main objective is to make the Payne Center the most enjoyable to place to be on campus, as well as helping to maximize our employees’ happiness. It was right around that time that I had my “Aha!” moment; the quintessential lightbulb that turned on in my head indicating that I had finally found my
On Gymnasium, Campus Drive stands The Gastronome on the outskirts of California State University, Fullerton’s (CSUF) campus. This large, glass windowed building acts as the kitchen to all CSUF students who reside in the on-campus dormitories and apartments. The Gastronome is CSUF’s first official cafeteria available to provide on-campus residents with a pre-paid meal plan. On top of this, the Gastronome it is also open to non-campus residents who prefer to pay at the door. This wide spaced modern structure is able to hold 500 people at a time. Once inside the Gastronome, there are a variety of stations scattered throughout to get food from this buffet style place to choose from. For instance there is a salad bar, pizza, pasta, waffle, grill,
Early Monday I met Nefeline Castillo. She works at the Casa Esperanza localize at the 245 Eustis Street Roxbury MA 02119. The agency work with Substance Abuse, Mental Health services, Residential Treatment, Supportive Housing, clinic, Therapy, and Medical care. I would like to schedule some time for us to meet with Heidi Quinlan. She is a major advocate and mental health provider for infant and early childhood services. She forms part of various committees for this movement at the State and RBHA level, including the Infant-Toddler Mental Health Coalition of Arizona. She developed and directed the Infant & Early Childhood Program (IECP) at Touchstone Health Services. I have been meeting to connect both of you and forgot to invite you to the BHS-Occupational Advisory Board yesterday.
During my visit with Larry Bryan I was able to take notes on how he builds his rapport with his customers, suppliers, and employees. When I arrived at the Oklahoma Youth Expo on the 16th of March I was able to see the full action of what his business was like in a short amount of time. He made calls to customers and letting them know where their two trailers were located, for the customers conveniences. In a few short minutes the clients flocked to the trailer and begin to buy products for their livestock and return to the stalls to continue their hard work in the show barns.
1. Go to a public place and OBSERVE the community of people in that place for at least 30 minutes; perhaps as long as 60 minutes. In your report, describe the setting and note the date and time of your observation. Describe the element of “community” that you observed.
