The two characters in this comic are both women of Caucasian ethnicity. It is clear that Amy is a teenager and her mother is middle-aged. By the characters’ clothing and Amy’s room, it appears that the family is of the middle socioeconomic status. Amy’s interest in reading reveals some level of education, and the fact that she has so many clothes to pick up shows that she has many possessions. The mother’s laundry basket on her hip implies that they are not wealthy enough to have maids do their chores, but that they have a laundry operating system within the house, which also implies a middle socioeconomic …show more content…
At a local Panera Bread, three adult women were sitting at a table talking about what colleges their children applied to and what that process was like. To keep the conversation operating smoothly, the women took turns talking back and forth and asked one another follow up questions to keep the flow of the exchange.
4. One of the rules observed during this conversation was back channel feedback, in which the ladies would nod or make “mmm” noises to communicate that they were listening and understanding the woman speaking. They also regulated the conversation by taking turns talking, although one woman in particular talked more and longer than the other two.
5. At one point, the conversation flow broke down because after one woman ended speaking, there were no other questions asked or comments made. The silence was broken when one woman finally made a statement about how quickly her daughter’s senior year seemed to be going by, which was followed by echoes of agreement from the other two mothers who began talking about graduation and grad night plans. The conversation about their senior children ended when their attention switched to the server bringing them their plates of
I believe the nonverbal message in this image is Affect Displays. A woman with an obvious bad tan seems as though she has a negative reaction to the gentleman that’s doing a double take, looking at her. Her facial expression has a look of irritation from the staring
The topic of discussion was “Spiritual Progress” and she began describing her spiritual journey and how significant the first and third step were in her life. As she concluded, the floor was then opened for others to share stories about their “Spiritual Progress.” People willingly shared and gave insight on what helped them grow spiritually and physically. Whenever someone spoke, they would introduce themselves as “hello, I am (first name)” and when they finished the group would say, “thank you (first name).” About 10
Working at Panera Bread is awesome, from getting free drinks whenever I want to getting 50% off my meals when I’m working and taking home free mac and cheese. Typically, I work every Saturday or Sunday at Panera because I can’t work during the week because of soccer.
The formation of Panera Bread began in 1978 when Louis Kane bought Au Bon Pain, a retail producer of baked goods. Kane changed it to a wholesale business by opening two cafes and staffing them with bakers and employees, but high production costs made it impossible to cover his overhead. In 1981 Kane decided to remain responsible for site selection and financing, but he chose Robert Shaich to help turn the company around as President of internal operations ("Au Bon Pain History").
Prior to the start of the meeting, she introduced Rick and me to the group. The group inquired what program we were in and if either of us had experience in dealing with grief. I shared that my dad passed away suddenly 2 years ago. That year, I also lost my grandfather, grandmother and my aunt. There were 5 individuals who were attending the meeting.

Life teaches us lessons every day. Sometimes when we are in the midsts of frustration or confusion we never see clearly or understand the lesson from the situations we are put in. It is only through moments of reflection when a person can begin to see how certain situations have shaped their way of thinking or doing things. For a little over half a year, I worked a part time job during my senior year of high school at Panera Bread. During my time there i was able to observe and see all kinds of different family dynamics and people walk through the door every day. It was strange, it was different, and it was amazing all at the same time to see all of those different walks of life. A favorite memory of mine there that I will never forget occurred on Super Bowl Sunday night. Looking back on my experience from that frustrating night, I find that i learned the value of teamwork, work relationships, and I learned how the most unpleasant situations can turn into great unexpected surprises.

To define these communication conundrums, Tannen discusses “rapport-talk” and “report-talk”. She defines “rapport-talk” as “For most women, the language of conversation is primarily
A few days ago I took a trip to my local mall and took a seat at the food court. My objective was to observe individuals engaging in non-verbal communication and document what I witnessed. After only a few minutes I became aware of a couple sitting within public distance, about 15-20ft away from me. They were having an argument about how the male was being cold and unaffectionate. While observing them I realized they were using various gestures while arguing. I will inform you of what type they were and what they were conveying.
As I walked into the fairly new Panera there was a calm feeling to it. It wasn’t super quiet it wasn't really loud it was just the right amount of noise. The fresh smell of bread and cookies made it feel and smell more comfortable. I went to go buy 1 caramel macchiato for Amy and a cookie to thank her for letting me interview her. When I got her order I went straight to the booth that Amy was sitting in. She was wearing light blue jeans with a white blouse. She was patiently sitting crossed leg while playing on her phone. As soon as she noticed me walking towards her ,she gave a soft smile and waved. When I sat down and got my questions ready she looked worried. It was like she was worried that I would judge her about
Gender and culture can influence nonverbal communication. It’s a behavior other than written or spoken language that creates meaning for someone. As an example, women seem to use facial expressions more frequently than men do. (Adler, R., Rodman, G., and du Pre, A. (2015). Culture can altogether impact nonverbal correspondence too. The indications operated by Americans may not generally be dubious to the motions of those in other countries. Types of nonverbal communication are with body movement including body orientation, posture, gestures, and touch. (Adler, R., Rodman, G., and du Pre, A. (2015). Nonverbal correspondence is used by about a wide range of correspondence whether it is straightforwardly or by implication. Nonverbal correspondence incredibly impacts discussions by the use of hand motions and facial appearances. In the film, there were numerous times Joe and Kathleen used non-verbal communication. An example would be that toward the start of the film, both Joe and Kathleen jumbled their practices. They conveyed that getting on their computers and messaging each other was fairly forbidden and should have been hidden.
Panera Bread started in 1981 as Au Bon Pain Co., Inc. Founded by Louis Kane and Ron Shaich; the company prospered along the east coast of the United States and internationally throughout the 1980s and 1990s and became the dominant operator within the bakery-cafe category. In every society nonverbal communication is one of the most powerful tools that a person can use to interpret the message that is being delivered. Even though verbal communication is fairly straightforward, nonverbal communication allows others to sense the true emotions of the person that is expressing them. For example even though a person may say that they are not irritated, their usage of voice may display otherwise. Nonverbal communication not only reveals hidden messages, but it also complements, substitutes, and exaggerates verbal communication.
After we were assigned a table, we searched through the menu for the perfect meal. The interior of the place was homey and warm. The atmosphere excited and joyful. As we waited for our meals we talked about everything that had been going on. I told them about the weird
