The general goal of the Humane Society Colorado Springs, is to eliminate the cruelty and suffering of animals. In a quest to keep animals safe and in places where they are treated with love and care, they possess a rescue and adoption program. It is a big and important decision to make the decision about bringing an adopted pet into your home. Not everyone can realistically adopt a pet and they can donate in other ways. If you have truly evaluated your time, money and housing restrictions and still feel it is the right choice for you, then it is time for you to understand the adoption process and how it works.
There is an on-line site where you can go and take a look at what animals are currently up for adoption. The staff does their best to keep this information up to date. Adoption is based on a first come, first serve basis. You may arrived at the the Humane Society and find that the pet you were interested in has already been

When you find a pet that you are interested in meeting and getting acquainted with, you get the id number and take it to a staff member. You will then be allowed to spend some time with the pet in a safe environment with staff there to help answer your questions. It is the job of the staff member to talk to you frankly about the cares and needs of the animals and see if this situation is truly a "match".
At the Colorado Springs Humane Society, they don't have an adoption application. They have an adoption survey that helps to make sure owners and pets will be an appropriate match. When the survey is completed and approved the adoption proceeds. Depending on the adopted pet there may be medical costs before the pet can be adopted.
Saturdays are very busy Colorado Springs Humane Society. If you are going on Saturday plan for a two hour wait and a lot of people. If you can come a different time it would probably be a more pleasant
Webber (2016) asked the manager, Jane Irwin, of how well the program was doing and if there were any things that needed to be changed. Irwin responded by stating that with the new building they have taken in even more animals. This has created a problem, because this means that more people are giving away animals and not keeping them at home. Irwin continues to explain how the BCHS is trying to combat this by giving families access to food for their animals and even needed medications for dogs and cats. The manager is happy though that the community is spaying and neutering their animals. This allows the animal population to increase too rapidly. During the interview it is discussed that the greatest problem for the organization is the number of cats that they have taken in. Irwin notes that this might be that people allow cats to “free roam” the community without much care. Again the BCHS fought against this problem, and was able to help pass a bill discussing the neutering and spaying of animals during adoption. The nonprofit organization was able to work with many other organizations in the community to help increase the number of animals that are being adopted. Some of these other organizations include Petco and the Litter Box Kitty Rescue. Irwin believes that if it was not for the community supporting
With nearly 3,000 adoptions each year the Longmont Humane Society in Longmont, Colorado is a magnificent animal shelter to adopt from, however, behind the scenes is a completely different story. The Longmont Humane Society has an overwhelming environment, dangerous situations, and emotionally draining events. As a result, this shelter negatively impacts the physical and emotional well-being of it’s employees.
The mission of the Houston SPCA is to promote commitment to and respect for all animals and to protect them from suffering, abuse and exploitation. We work towards that mission by intervening on behalf of more than 50,000 animals a year, including cats and dogs; small mammals, birds; equines; farm animals, native wildlife (through our subsidiary The Wildlife Center of Texas) and exotic animals like lions, tigers, bears and primates. We are the only animal protection organization in the United States with the ability to care for all animals on one campus.
The Randolph County Humane Society houses 64 pets for adoption, 54 of which are eligible for sponsorship. By sponsoring a pet, you choose to either pay to feed that pet for a month, a medical exam, getting spayed or neutered, or just a general sponsorship. 29 cats, 31 dogs, 3 mice, and 1 rat are currently housed for adoption. Most of the pets that are eligible for sponsorship are the ones up for adoption. 26 of the cats, 30 of the dogs and the mice are the ones eligible for sponsorship. Of all the animals, 2 dogs and 2 cats have special needs. For example, one of the cats is epileptic (Welcome! - Randolph County Humane Society). The humane society wants all the care and safety of the animals. The employees there value the animals care
You can flip through the books and magazines related to adoption for help or for that matter you can also visit several pertained websites in order to get an insight about it. Moreover, you may also rely on some adoptive parents as they surely would have a lot to share
Although I love animals and would be devoted to take care and maintain everyone that gets dropped off at my house or is left abandoned, I cannot. If anyone enjoys the company of an animal as much as I do, a wonderful place to volunteer would be the Tupelo-Lee Humane Society. It is a very loving organization. If I was to volunteer I would need to know what the organization does, how to volunteer and/or what to do when I volunteer, and how the Humane Society benefits the community.
Every dog is a responsibility, and it takes a kind hearted person to go through the process of adoption. Through shelters it’s about an hour process to adopt. They ask for your current pets (if there is any) vet, the phone number of the vet, every one who lives in the house phone number, so they can call and see if they are okay with having a new furry friend in the house. They give scenarios that could possibly happen with a new puppy in the house for example, what do you do if the puppy is digging in the yard? Or what do you do if the mailman comes to the door and the dog starts barking? The process is long but it is worth it. The shelters even off puppy training classes that’ll teach them household manners, which includes potty training, leash training so that they will be able to go on walks without having to wear a harness. You get so much out of adoption that you don’t get from pet stores that will not offer. With my new adoption I was offered classes for him. Puppy classes, intermediate, therapy dogs, than k9 classes.
Logos. Facts. Adopting. It means saving one of the more than six million cats, dogs, or countless other animals who enter U.S. animal shelters EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Adopting is never buying any type of animal. What’s the difference between a pet store and an animal shelter? This is one of the most asked questions over this topic. And the answer? Profit. Pet stores. Pet stores sell animals only for the money or profit they can get off that animal. Animal shelters are there to save lives. Get an animal off the street. Animal shelters take unwanted, stray, or abandoned animals. Now you may be thinking about an adoption fee. Wouldn't that basically count as buying? Absolutely not. Shelters use the adoption fee so they can get more positive things for the animals. Food, medicine, spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchipping, and other important things for your new companion needs. In other words, your money is going to help animals. Still not convinced adopting is better? Let’s take a look at some examples.
There are many things to consider before adopting. First, bringing a dog into your life is a commitment of often, many years. Especially if you adopt a puppy. Adopting a puppy, you should be willing to commit 10-15 years on average, and be willing to take care of that dog through sickness and through health. Making sure all family members in the household are on board for this is also very important. Considering the ages of your family members is important as well. Having young kids in the home, you may want to think twice about adopting a very young puppy or a very small breed that is under 15 pounds. Young children do not understand how to act around dogs, especially ones on the smaller size and accidents can happen. The new dog must fit the physical capabilities of everyone in the household as well or at least the main
To begin, you’ll need to determine which type of adoption you’d like to pursue. Do you want to adopt: an infant or older child; internationally or domestically; through the state foster care system, agency, or privately?

They not only have plans to remove a pet, but they also have plans to keep a pet with in a home and try to help the owner. When an elderly needs help with a pet and cannot properly take care it then volunteers step into help so the elderly and the pet can still stay together. That program is called Homeward bound. They also have dog walking programs, grooming programs, food banks, animal hospitals, adoptathons, and affordable spay and neuter clinics. Like I said before they also help people like the elderly program, Homeward Bound, but they also have programs for pet owners who are homeless, government assisted people, or the mentally ill.
For centuries, humankind has enjoyed the unconditional love and companionship of pets. Inclusively, dogs have been stated as “man’s best friends.” By far, pets have become a bigger role in people’s lives. Consequently, pet ownership has turned out to be more popular through the years. Owning a pet can be one of the most rewarding experiences, but there is a fact that many individuals may not know. From what kind of places are people obtaining their pets? The two most presumed options are narrowed down to either buying at a pet store or adopting from a shelter. Even though people can get a pet from either option, there are many reasons why adopting is undoubtedly a smarter choice. Animal shelters serve for a bigger purpose, and that is to help the community and its animals. Prospective pet owners should choose pet adoption because of its health, economic, and life benefits.
I’ve seen first-hand the benefits of adoption through working and adopting from Second City Canine Rescue.
Adoption is a process that happens all over the world. There are so many kids that need a place to live around the world! People may not realize it, but there are thousands of adoption agencies that are looking for homes to place kids in. There is also a process called foster care. This is similar to adoption but it is usually a temporary housing until they place the children back into their family’s home or into a group home.
