This College Transfer Success Course has been extremely helpful to me during the summer. I’ve learned a lot of strategies about being successful in college, as well as discovered how to develop a good transfer plan for my major of choice. This course allowed me to narrow my choices down to what I needed and helped me find my career path. One of the top five things I learned this semester was time management. I believe learning about keeping a schedule of what I do, will help me figure out how much time I’ll have in the future to achieve my goals. Another thing I learned was how to calculate my GPA, which will help me figure out later on what it needs to be to transfer. The third thing I learned was financial literacy. This lesson showed me
College Success: Chapter 1 is a great recourse for every student whether they are experienced or not. Specifically, descriptions about the best possible choices made to get the most out of your experience are plentiful, and self-assessments are included to evaluate a starting point. If one were to follow the step-by-step advice given, such as overcoming obstacles and enriching your learning experience, it would be close to impossible not to have a great experience at college. The author wasn’t afraid to delve deep into the fact that college is difficult and requires a lot of commitment to follow through. The information given is easily suitable for a wide range of students, including anything from discovering resources many colleges offer,

Through the course Strategies for College Success Cpd 150 taught by Michelle Garland one can learn many things. Despite this course possibly being more helpful to others then it was to me it did still teach me multiple things. At the beginning of the course I had been dealing with relationship drama and figuring out how online college works, now halfway through the course the drama has subsided and I understand how online college works.I have learned that one of the most important factors of college success is determination. It is a person's ability to keep trying as hard as they can no matter what comes their way. I say this because college can be difficult and even seem pointless at times, but those who are determined enough to keep going, to keep trying, will eventually succeed. Although I am stubborn I have issues staying determined, I do generally accomplish what I need to. Another skill going along with determination is the ability to seperate the various areas of ones life. For example the ability to have a fight with your best friend then go to class and learn just fine. Now while this can be harmfull as well, since it does involve temporarily bottling your emotions, it can also
In other words, when students at a community college want to transfer, it is unclear to them how to initiate the process - let alone navigate it. Community colleges serve many imperative purposes but are often overlooked in the scheme of academia. Therefore, rather than pushing students right into a four-year commitment, community colleges are an ideal way to train students for careers in certain specialties and economically prepare students for a bachelor’s degree. At the present time, though, there are no universal standards in terms of the transfer process.
One thing that I accomplished this semester that I never recognized the value of, was
I saw the Coordinator for Transfer Student Success position on the University of Maryland Baltimore County website. As a former transfer student to UMBC, I understand the support and information needed to make this transition easier. During my first semester at UMBC, my Interdisciplinary Studies degree proposal was completed and accepted before the board the first time it was submitted. Due to a furlough the following year, some of the classes I needed to graduate where no longer offered and I made the decision to change my major. After graduation, I used the information and experiences I received to join Teach for America. During my final year in teaching, my students out performed the region and the district on a district mandated end-of-year
Another main point I can apply to myself as a transfer student is to never give up. I know times will be tough as a college student. It will be the same in the real world. Colvin uses a great example in the article, Michael Jordan. Everyone knows that Michael Jordan is considered the greatest basketball player of all time. Many people do not realize that it did not just happen
I have learned how to ask better questions and to talk to my teachers when I need help or do not understand the concept well. I make sure that I have a relationship with my teachers and introduce myself at the beginning of each semester. Learning how to communicate with my teachers
In the College Transfer Success class I have learned about what is needed to be successful in college and in my career. So far we have learned about degree choices, college culture, student development and our own personal learning styles and skills. Through this class I feel more confident about my future and my success in finding a college and career I will enjoy.
Throughout this semester reading about different ways of interpersonal communication I came to the realization that there were many things I could work on to better myself as a person. Things I never thought about in depth until taking this class. Areas I have improved on throughout this semester are using I language more than the use of you language, what empathy was and how I choose to become better and lastly how I deal with conflict.
Gene therapy is the process of changing the genetic makeup or an individual to try and cure a disease they may have (Kids Health Gene Therapy and Children). However, this cannot always go as planned and is simply not right. Children are born the way they are for a specific reason and if the parents or doctors try to change the child because of a mutation, then it is unethical. The parents are responsible for how their child turns out. They should love their child exactly how it is in and out of the womb.
What concepts, principles, or ideas that you have learned, do you think you will remember the most after you leave this class?
I have learned so much in this class to prepare me for a successful college experience. There were some topics that caught my attention more than others. Such as, time and stress management, University resources, and critical thinking.
I did learn a lot at first semester. First and the most important things that I think I learned is that time-planning which helped me organized the time well which dragged me out of the mass life, at least I know what I need to do and never forget and late for the homework. In my opinion, organized time well is important no matter on study or in lives which can always inform us what we need to do and what time is available for us to do other things that make life more orderly. Besides, I also learned how to use resource that afford by school. Before the facilitator told me those resources, there had so many things that I have no idea who could help me. After knowing this, I felt like open a door that to a continent life for me. I have to say that there have so many resources for me in school, I can do anything with the help of them and which really makes me feel easy
What I didn’t learn from my highschool class is how to properly set goals. I didn’t know that there was a process and I didn’t realize how helpful it is writing down goals and physically seeing them. I was able to learn S.M.A.R.T goals which helps you structure your goals to a achievable standard. I also learned the different types of goals like long term, short term, and immediate. I learn how important goal setting can be and how it helps you better achieve them.
