Heroin addicts have the psychological dependence on heroin that leads them into the state of self-destruction and the possibility of leading to death by the extreme use of heroin. Never estimate the poppy flower for its power that withholds the fiends to their mentality enduring the euphoria enslavement of the mind that contained for many centuries. The heroin addiction nation is a self numbing injection and dry approach to have the mind under the state of the greatest feeling of great happiness leaving the pain behind under the spell of heroin. Heroin comes in many forms for addicts to enjoy in their own way. They come in powder and rock like form that is combined with other narcotics. The snorting form for heroin is not

Addiction is disease, its chronic, relapsing brain disease that is characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, despite harmful consequences. addiction often involves cycles of relapse and remission. In the modern era both addiction and substance abuse are serious issues. In order to fix these issues we need to understand the different types of addiction and the difference between addiction and substance abuse. Firstly we need to understand what substance abuse and addiction are, let us start by looking at their definitions. Substance abuse is when someone misuses a specific substance for example alcohol. Addiction is when that someone repeatedly misuses the substance, so much so that they no longer have control, over whether they use the substance or not, and when to use the substance. The difference being; that addiction is repeated substance abuse and by being so is a different, and more dangerous problem then substance abuse.
Substance abuse and addiction have become a social problem that afflicts millions of individuals and disrupts the lives of their families and friends. Just one example reveals the extent of the problem: in the United States each year, more women and men die of smoking related lung cancer than of colon, breast and prostate cancers combined (Kola & Kruszynski, 2010). In addition to the personal impact of so much illness and early death, there are dire social costs: huge expenses for medical and social services; millions of hours lost in the workplace; elevated rates of crime associated with illicit drugs; and scores of children who are damaged by their parents’ substance abuse behavior (Lee, 2010). This paper will look at
So, by definition: An addiction is characterized by a psychological need for drugs that surpasses the user’s ability to control the use of drugs.
Drugs Abuse occurs when a drug is taken for unintended purposes and can lead to addiction. Addiction occurs when a person must use the drug to feel and function normally. Addiction occurs in two types, physical and psychological. Physical addiction is caused by the brain, the brain produces fewer chemicals or neurotransmitters to make up for the extra chemicals therefore the brain needs the chemicals from the drug to reach the correct balance and individual becomes out of touch with reality. Psychological addiction is much simpler, the individual simply likes the way a drug makes him/her feel and must have it, therefore becoming addicted. (Lawrence, F. 1996)
Although it is true that for most people the initial decision to take drugs is voluntary, over time the changes in the brain caused by frequent drug abuse can impair a person's self-discipline and ability to make sound judgements, and at the same time create an intense impulse to take drugs. It is because of these alterations in the brain that it is so puzzling for a person to stop abusing drugs. Luckily, there are treatments that help people to neutralize addiction's powerful disruptive effects and regain control of their lives. Study shows that combining addiction treatment medications, when suitable, with behavioral therapy is the best way to ensure success for most patients. Treatment approaches that are custom-made to each patient's drug abuse patterns and any concurrent medical, psychiatric, and social problems can help achieve sustained recovery and a life without drugs.
How many times have you said "This is so addicting" or "You are addicted" but what is the defintion of this word and are we addicts? To understand the word addiction we must look at the text book definition which states "Addiction is a brain disorder characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli, despite adverse consequences" (Wikipedia). In a more simple definition addiction is like being hooked on something wether its rewarding or destructive and not having the control to stop or slow down on the substance or activity. There are many forms of addiction but even though some are more severe then others they should all be taken seriously. One addiction that is usually associated in our minds with this word is drug abuse which is a very destructive form that just doesnt affect the user but affects everyone around them. Some examples of these are drugs like alcholol, nicotine,
Addictions are everywhere in the world that surrounds us, there are so many different types and often through the release of dopamine in our brains, addictions create such a pleasure with a followed release of serotonin or a sense of calmness that they are hard to escape. In a gospel perspective addictions cloud our decision and bind up our agency. In a talk given by Elder Russel M. Nelson in 1988, entitled Addiction or Freedom he states “Agency, or the power to choose, was ours as spirit children of our Creator before the world was. (See Alma 13:3; Moses 4:4.) It is a gift from God, nearly as precious as life itself. Often, however, agency is misunderstood. While we are free to choose, once we have made those choices, we are tied to the
