Education is inspiring. The skills we are taught as children inspire us to become who we are today and are carried with us for the entirely of our lives. We learn from our mistakes, our environment, from our parents, our teachers, and our neighbors. To me, education means a future. It comes from my curiosity to learn, to improve, and then to teach. It comes from my drive to inspire.

I’ve noticed the eyes of a child twinkle when they learn something new. They twinkle with the same curiosity I have felt time and again with myself. I noticed that last summer, when I was a leader for a church camp for traumatized children. I wanted to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. I figured the best way of to inspire would be to offer the educational opportunities. My initial goal was to establish a FIRST LEGO League team in every single school in my district. I knew I needed money, a location, student participation, and the approval of the school district. Unfortunately, I knew I needed someone high up in my school district to support my goal. Without the support from someone high up, my project would likely have been slowed to a halt in the slow approval process of my school district. With the guidance my mentors, I typed up an email to the superintendent of my school district. The next month we walked into her conference room dressed for success and bestowing to her a request for a robotics team in every school in our district. Unfortunately, with one swift swoop of her hand, she forced us to re-evaluate the entire plan. She claimed the district wouldn’t be able to do something of that scale that soon, both financially and administratively. I was still determined, however, and was able to compromise with starting in the middle schools and no financial support from the school. We could, though, use their community education system for insurance and to manage registration. Fortunately, I was able to secure $10,000 from our team’s booster
