What is fair trade? Fair trade is an organization to make life easier for farmers or factory workers, basically anyone working manual labour. Meaning these people in devolving countries get paid and fair amount and are provided safe work environments. Whilst fair trade is very humane and fair, and also has other advantages such as; less environmental harm & manual labours can supply to their families. Despite this there a few reasons I disagree with the statement ‘Should Coles and Woolworths start have all their products fair trade?’. This is because of the following reasons; there are other organizations other than fair trade that do the same thing, so it would be unfair to other companies if Coles and Woolworths had all their products fair trade. There’s also a few concerns about this company and there is debate whether this company is actually fair. Expenses rise for everyday shoppers. By having large companies like Coles and Woolworths, switch all their products to fair trade could have two possible negative effects. Firstly, fair trade may not be able to keep up with all the demand, secondly, other companies may go out of business. This is also a very unrealistic idea (Should Coles and Woolworths start to have all their products fair trade?).

The media sometimes exaggerates work environments. There are various debates whether fair trade actually helps manual labours, in fact studies show that fair trade recently failed workers. So it’s probably not the best choice to put all our trust in this company unless we’re completely sure of its abilities.

Expensive products will become an issue both for shoppers and Coles and Woolworths employees, since shoppers may not be willing to pay more they might switch to places like Aldi, and this could be a threat to their business. They will also be less product
