Throughout history, Russia and the United States have had many relations, and one of those were the Cold War. Following World War I, allies Russia and the United States went into a Cold War. The Cold War lasted from 1945 until 1991 over ideology and arms race. Both parties competed for world domination, bringing them to the brink of a nuclear war. Because the Soviets had an agenda to spread communism, the Cold War was started because Russia brought the world economic toil and a disruption to world peace. The first way that the Soviet Union started the Cold War is through their agenda to spread communism. The United States felt obligated to create pacts with other countries around the world because of the threat. The U.S. felt that they needed to join together, because they knew for certain that the Soviets were going to start a fight. The U.S. along with other countries came up with NATO to protect them from an “armed attack’ (Document 4). Each country was expected to “immediately” use “whatever action” necessary to remain secure from attack (Document 4). Around 1962, Russia started to put missiles in Cuba. Again, with NATO, the U.S. were determined to be secure, because these missiles could potentially damage the entire U.S. and other surrounding countries. President J.F. Kennedy felt that the missiles was a “reckless threat to world peace” and he wanted Khrushchev to stop sending them to Cuba for how dangerous they were (Document 8). This makes it evident, that Russia wanted drama to start, because they were willing to destroy an entire nation with just one missile. Russia continuously worked and worked to create more weapons in hopes of beating the U.S.
