Tan’s (2007) article, “Use of Prayer and Scripture in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy,” is about using prayers and scriptures in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). According to Tan (2007), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the utmost empirically supported treatments (ESTs), (p.101). The article noted that a recent placebo-controlled study of behavioral activation, cognitive therapy and antidepressant medication of paroxetine of 241 adults that suffered from major depressive disorder showed that behavioral activation is as successful as antidepressant medication and more successful than cognitive therapy in treatment for severely depressed adults, (Tan, 2007, p 101). Tan (2007) gives an overview on behavioral therapy and its three categories,
Current literature suggests that the practising of cognitive therapy techniques on oneself is a valuable and useful way to learn about cognitive therapy (Beck, 1995; Padesky & Greenberger, 1995; Padesky, 1996). Padesky (1996, p. 288), for instance has written: ‘‘To fully understand the process of the therapy, there is no substitute for using cognitive therapy methods on oneself “. Beck (1995, p. 312) advises readers ‘‘to gain experience with the basic techniques of cognitive therapy by practising them yourself before doing so with patients . . . trying the techniques yourself allows you to correct

The author used client(Jane) to demonstrate effective methods while using Christian CBT. For instance, Jane, an adult experienced depression, and anger from her childhood. Her anger stems from her father lack of affection toward her, even though he provided financially She had a problematic time maintaining a personal relationship with God too. After using prayer and meditation during therapy, she gained knowledge and better understanding on how to cope with life struggles. Secondly, the author demonstrated scriptures using CBT and how its important not to interpret the wrong understanding while reading scriptures.
My goal is to become a school counselor. But, before I go into school settings. I would like to do my internship at a mental health facility. My main focuses will be with 0-5 children. All the different theories of psychotherapy that I studied in this class will go in handy when I start my internship. I have a better understanding of each theory, so when I practice the theory I will be familiar to use it. From all the theories of psychotherapy that I studied in this class, I feel the strongest approach for the population I want to work with will be cognitive behavioral therapy. I believe working at a mental health facility and then transition to a school setting cognitive behavior therapy will be proper to use when working with 0-5 children and teenager students as well.
Developed in the mid 1960s by Aaron Beck, the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) model theorizes that the interpretation of both external and internal events is biased, and can tap unhealthy underlying beliefs that potentially lead to emotional distress (Beck, 2005). Over the years CBT has accumulated an impressive track record in the treatment of a variety of mood disorders. In 1985, a review of 220 studies using CBT in the treatment of depression concluded that 91% supported the model (Beck, 2005). Large-scale literature meta-analyses on CBT in the treatment of anxiety disorders have also shown CBT to be highly effective in this population, particularly with posttraumatic stress disorder (Beck, 2005). Additionally, since the late 1990s evidence has accumulated showing CBT to be an effective treatment approach in substance use disorders, including alcohol dependence, marijuana dependence, and cocaine dependence (Carroll, 2004). No wonder CBT has been characterized as “the fastest growing and most heavily researched orientation on the contemporary scene” (Prochaska & Norcross, 2003, p. 369).
In the article, “Effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Veterans with Depression and Suicidal Ideation,” by Gregory K. Brown, Bradley E. Karlin, Mickey Trockel, Maria Gordienko, Jerry Yesavage & C. Barr Taylor (2016) wanted to examine effects of therapy on veterans that were living with depression. Since 20% of veteran’s deaths were suicidal in America. The hypothesis that was tested was if veterans went to therapy, the rate of suicide and depression would decrease.
One of the most vulnerable groups to post traumatic stress disorder are Marine veterans. This is because they often see the worst aspects of any conflict. The Iraq war, also known as Operation Iraqi Freedom was one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history. During the course of this conflict 4,411 American Soldiers lost their lives, including 1,023 Marines (Defense Casualty Analysis System, 2017). With such a high loss of life, it is easy to see why helping those who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom is so important.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) has been used within a wide array of practices, to treat a variety of disorders and problems. CBT has not been around as long as other types of therapies but has become increasingly popular. Today’s mental health practitioners have been using CBT as a way of treating anything from depression and anxiety to children and families’ dilemmas. Within this text will be a broad overview of what cognitive behavioral therapy is about and offers. This presentation of information will cover the development of cognitive behavioral therapy, healthy psychological development,
This article, “Interventions that Apply Scripture in Psychotherapy,” uses a case study format to describe and incorporate various religious intervention strategies. According to Garzon (2005), this article not only demonstrates the incorporation, but also serves to increase awareness of the variety of types of Scripture interventions available, and to further stimulate the creative development of divine strategies. However, when incorporating Scripture in psychotherapy, the therapist must be cautious. There are many ethical issues that can arise, as well as positive and negative Scripture countertransference (e.g. the client has a negative reaction to church and the Bible while
As the social worker becomes more mindful about the clients multiple and overlapping problems, they will be provided with a greater awareness about the best way to intervene across the micro, macro, and meso levels (Cournoyer, 2014). The way in which people view the world around them is based on their previous beliefs and experiences and can be either realistic and accurate or distorted (Walsh, 2013). Peoples distorted view of the world results in emotional and behavioural problems related to their inability to adapt to their environment (Walsh, 2013). Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that emerged in social work practice during the 1960s (Walsh, 2013). Research has shown that CBT is effective when working with clients who display symptoms of depression and anger (Dowd, Clen and Arnold, 2010).
This article talks about Cognitive-Behavior therapy and using prayer and scripture appropriately, how to approach using biblical/ Christian values in therapy. The journal also talks about an historical overview of behavioral therapy, throughout the years. The commentary discusses the two component of mindfulness, in which the first component engages self-guidance concentration and the second component engages implementing a meticulous direction that is distinguish by interest. He discusses the eight main features of the Christian approach to
Cognitive behavioral therapy is a type of therapy where “challenging problematic beliefs, ensuring an increase in pleasant activities, and providing extended exposure to places or activities that trigger avoidance and/or arousal so that these responses are gradually diminished (Vinci, Coffey, & Torquiest, 2015, p. 233). CBT allows the therapist to question the patient’s beliefs that lead to specific actions and then the consequences of those actions. The therapist challenging the problematic beliefs can help provide symptom relief or the ability to better understand the way their thinking or actions can lead to negative thoughts or behaviors. Vinci et al. (2015) reported that “two types of CBT have been found to be particularly effective in
The three major components of cognitive therapy are didactic, or educational aspects, cognitive techniques, and behavioral interventions. The didactic aspect is basically preparation for the client to become his or her own therapist. The therapist informs the client as to how it works and lets the client know what is expected of both of them. The cognitive techniques include, but are not limited to, socratic questioning and role play. These are only a few of the techniques used to help recognize and modify automatic thoughts and core beliefs. The therapist begins with questioning the client about their situation and asks them to describe how they feel about it.
Air transportation is considered the fastest growing sector of the major travel methods. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported that in 2015, airlines serving the United States carried an estimated 895.5 million passengers system wide. This was a five percent increase system wide from the previous year. The field of Green Aviation tackles environmental concerns related to air travel by coming up with ways to improve airplanes and the systems in which they fly. In order to tackle these concerns, Green Aviation focuses on flight efficiency, which will lead to safer and greener flights. Green Aviation seeks to improve flight efficiency through lightweight materials, improved aircraft design, and
