The article focuses on the difficulties that Black males face in securing employment in urban areas to illustrate this issue. The main point that the authors try to get across is that unemployment is in issue in the Black community, mostly due to prejudices and stereotypes about blacks, specifically about Black men, that need to be resolved. The question is, to what extent has economic inequality between races in the US improved today? In one study that was done in 2003, the researchers Bertrand and Mullainathan identified job openings using local help wanted ads. They then sent in equally appealing resumes to companies' ads with traditionally white or African-American sounding names. The researchers found that the resumes that had traditionally white names received a fifty percent higher callback rate than those with traditionally African-American names (Bertrand & Mullainathan 991). Currently, less than five percent of the white population in America is unemployed, but almost ten percent of African-Americans in the US are considered unemployed (Bureau of Labor Statistics).

She talks about how they use the Allen cognitive scale to test their patient cognitive level. Last week I undertook the Montreal Cognitive Assessment at home and the assessor was my husband. Leading up to the assessment I felt anxious, nervous and scared thinking about how my dyslexia, especially with numbers would impact the results. During the test I knew when asked about numbers that it took longer to answer the question and asked for them to be repeated. This article attempts to account for the wage gap in terms racial inequalities in the education system. Instead of focusing on discrimination in the labor market, this article highlights the discrepancy in education system and how it is harmful for African Americans in widening the wage gap. This article does account for African American men in addition to women, however, given the racial discrepancy in the wage gap, it could be important to look into discrepancies in education. The results would still be a major factor of limiting African American women in the labor market.

The authors of the article Explaining the black–white gap in cognitive test scores: Toward a theory of adverse impact attempt to explain the reasons for the Black-White cognitive ability and knowledge test score gaps. The researchers developed a theoretical model using previous study findings. According to previous findings, the mean differences in test scores are caused from these racially disparate situations: family income, maternal education, maternal verbal ability/knowledge, learning materials in the home, parenting components, child birth order, and child birth weight. The researchers created a 3-step model to examine how the cognitive test score gaps develop (Cottrell, Newman & Roisman, 2015).
