The day was August 9, 1883 in Saumur, France and on that day a very special and beautiful fashion designer was born. Now, I am way more than just a fashion designer, and created a fashion icon myself. My net worth was $15 billion, and many believe I created outstanding designs that are still popular today. You may have heard about my perfume, ‘Chanel 5’ which was used commonly by most big celebrities. My name is Coco Chanel and I am here to tell you about my life story. My real name is Gabrielle Chanel, and born into a family with an unmarried mother, in which we lived in poverty. My mother was a laundry women in the charity hospital, and my father was a street vendor. When I was only 12 years old the saddest day of life occurred. My mother died. As a result, throughout the world, there was a perfume for women that smelled like women! It was the first type of perfume with eighty components that were not repeating the same smell as a flower, like it was earlier. The success experienced its creators- making the Chanel No.5, the best-selling perfume throughout the whole entire world! This was a very big accomplishment of mine, and I was very proud of it. What I told most of my clients was, “A woman who doesn’t wear perfume has no future.” In the early 20’s the world broke into a war about inequality. This was a time when fashion was having a rough time due to sad egalitarianism which made women clothing lose its sophistication. So I found a great solution to bring back real fashion. I successfully managed to combine details into my models with revolutionary innovations. This led to the famous invention of the “little black dress” and it seemed at first artless, rustic, and impersonal. But, the decisive step made me a symbol of luxury, elegance, and good
Many women weren’t showed respect from men for the color of their skin or their gender, so it took courage for women like Mary Jackson to stand up for themselves or their work. In the book Hidden Figures, it states, “ Something didn’t seem right to the manager who assigned the work. He insisted that Mary’s calculations were wrong. Mary Jackson respectfully stood by her work. Mary and the division chief reviewed the number and finally discovered that the problem wasn’t with her output it was with his input: he had given her the wrong numbers to use!...But having the independence of mind and strength of personality to defend your work in front of the most powerful aeronautical minds in the world-that’s what got you noticed.”(Shetterly 91-92).

Juries specifically in the United States serve a very large political significance. Majority of the time they determine the fate of those on trial. Juries are used to protect the rights of the people and work hand in hand with the judge to determine the outcome of cases to the best of their ability. Working hand in hand means the Judge determines what laws are applied to each specific case, while the jury works to decide on the facts. Jurors are held to a high degree due to the fact they must focus on fact, remain impartial, and be honest. Very much power is given to juries in the court of law which in turn shows that large political significance juries hold. While juries hold a large significance politically, one of arguably their strongest weapons is the use of jury nullification. Jury nullification refers to right of juries to nullify, or refuse to apply law in criminal cases despite facts that support a finding that the law was violated. It is an extremely powerful component of law because a defendant could have all the facts and evidence pointing to their guilt, but if the jury feels a certain way about a law or situation, then they have the right to pass on all the facts presented and acquit a defendant that in most cases would be found guilty. Also they could use if they found a specific law being applied to the defendant as an unjust law or the way a law is applied. But largely in the past, specifically during the Jim Crow era, it was used as a way to acquit those

It’s acknowledged that Coco Chanel has drastically changed the course of woman’s liberation regarding fashion in Europe from 1920s to 1950s in several
The fashion industry is rapidly growing and constantly generating new fashion trends almost weekly. Fashion for some may seem ridiculous and unnecessary; but fashion is not just a meaningless usage of article of clothing or farcical materials sew together for coverage. There is more to fashion than meets the eyes, fashion is precious and significant. It is a reflection of self-image, it speak the ream about who we are and how we review ourselves. Not only is fashion the reflection of self-image but also the reflection of our history as Coco Channel have said, “Fashion is not something that exist in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” Fashion
There have been and still are hundreds of fashion designers in the world. But only a few of them have had any major impact on fashion industry today. And even fewer have revolutionised the fashion industry completely. One of these revolutionaries is the renowned Christian Dior. He reestablished Paris as the centre of the fashion world, and created his name as a symbol of elegance, quality, and modernity. I will be looking into how Dior’s context informed his practice, by using three of his most iconic and popular designs; The Bar Suit, Venus Dress and the Cygne Noir dress. And how these were a direct representation of 1945-1950 France.

The 18th century, more precisely between 1715 and 1789, was a significant time period in the fashion sphere for women in France. The time period itself was a mark of great change for the history of France due to various political reasons as well as various art movements and often times fashion, despite being a branch of art, is overlooked by most viewers. August 19, 1883, Saumur, France (“Coco Chanel”): this is the date of when Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel was born. While Chanel’s aesthetic in her later years was glamour, glitz, and glam, her early years were not the same. Chanel's mother died when she was twelve, and due to her peddling father, she and her two other sisters went into foster care (Collage). There she was raised by nuns who taught her how to sew (“Coco Chanel”), a skill that will benefit her later in life. Before Chanel entered the fashion world, she was briefly a nightclub singer. This is where she coined the nickname “Coco” and met a very important man to her career (“Coco Chanel”). This man was the wealthy business man Arthur “boy” Cape, and
The 1920’s fashion was a period of liberation, change, and even more importantly a movement towards the modern era. Fashion in the 1920’s varied throughout the decade but one could see the noticeable change from the previous fashion statements and eras. At the start of the decade, women began emancipating themselves from the constricting fashions by wearing more comfortable apparel. As women gained more rights and World War I forced them to become more independent, flappers came to be, mass-produced garments became available, and artistic movements increased in popularity, one can see how the fashions from the roaring twenties characterized the time and redefined womanhood. The period between two World Wars was dominated by two fabulous female fashion designers, Gabrielle (Coco) Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli, whose rivalry was legendary. The two designers evolve in the same environment, sharing many friends, however their approaches to fashion could not have been more different. For Chanel, fashion is a profession, for Schiaparelli it is art. The Italian creator Elsa Schiaparelli (1890-1973) is on of the major figures of 1930s fashion. Schiaparelli’s designs alongside reflecting her astonishing personality, tell us a lot about the socio-economical, political and artistic context of the period when she was creating (1927-opening of her boutique, 1954-closing of her fashion house).
