Analyzing Coca-cola – Global Strategy Management The Company – Coca-cola The Coca-Cola Company was founded in 1886. It is the world largest manufacturer, marketer and distributor of non-alcoholic beverage and it currently operates in over 200 countries worldwide, being most famous for the innovative soft drink, ‘Coca-Cola’ (www.coca-cola.com). The Headquarter is in Atlanta, Georgia, but its subsidiaries employ more than 30,000 people around the world. 70% of the company volume and 80% of the company profit come from outside of the United States and today it is one of the most visible companies in the world. This way, the company guarantees a competitive advantage, for it’s always aware of the customers and the local market. Capabilities (What the company can do) With the right investment (money and attention wise), Coca-cola can prove its own value by measuring its dominance in the beverage market worldwide. Other than that, the brand has many segments, from notebooks to social projects, and a major investment in this strategy, which, according to their own website, “consists of the implementation of different product/price/package portfolios by market cluster or group. These clusters are defined based on consumption occasion, competitive intensity and socio-economic levels, rather than solely on the types of distribution channels.” – This is also a way to maintain the competitive advantage, using, once again, the locals market to indicate which section is profitable and is worth investing. Other important concept well used by Coca-cola is their marketing channel, as they classify their market and develop targeted efforts to each consumer segment or distribution channel according to the local interest. This, along with the strong brand portfolio they own, turns out to be impressive and worldwide known advertisements and publicities. Even though these may vary according to each country, the brand can still be internationally popular by some of the same campaigns, as the one on Christmas, when the Coca-cola trucks drive along the cities lightened up.
