The term ‘coaching philosophy’ means the principles which shape the coach’s behaviour and the way in which they coach their athlete/s within the coaching environment. The principles within a coaching philosophy may be internal to the coach based on their own beliefs or external, these are principles that are set by participant and employers or organisations. A coach’s morals, values and virtues can play a large part in their coaching philosophy. A coach’s philosophy may be kept as a written record this is known as a philosophy statement. In order to ensure that the coaching environment is positive for both the coach and participant it is important to ensure there are no mismatches between the coach’s philosophy and the expectations of the individual
My topic is similar to yours. I have always been intrigued to examine the relationship between coach and athlete. In my experience, I have found coaches who provide positive support and are constructive with their criticism are more enjoyable to play for and give the athlete a more positive experience. Coaches that come across as condescending seem to push kids away from the game. It is important that the student-athlete has a positive experience, especially student-athletes at a young age. I feel if a student-athlete has a negative experience at the interscholastic level he or she will be less likely to stick with the sport.
I will inspire athletes to demonstrate good character. Sports do not have an influence on one’s character; however, coaches can strongly impact athletes’ character, both negatively and positively. For this reason, I will work to coach in ways that support the growth of athletes’ character and create learning opportunities and situations in which athletes can practice and learn from. As a coach, I will lead by example and demonstrate good character because actions speak louder than words. I will do this by embodying sportsmanship and respecting athletes, opponents, other coaches, and referees. I will also show this to athletes by respecting, caring, and being trustworthy. I will also lead by example by staying
This essay hopes to discuss the importance of coaching by analyzing the views of Doctor Gawande. Doctor Gawande is one of the highly educated professionals who decided that he needs help to come up with a solution to challenges he comes across. Doctor Gawande believes that only a few individuals can give their best performances without the help of others regardless of their level of training. In addition to this, Doctor Gawande decided that he wants coaching because he is expected to reach certain goals. He believes that by reaching his goals he will be able to get into the habit of accomplishing personal, organizational, or team goals.
As a coach, the purpose is to prepare the athletes for life on and off the field. It is important to demand the best from myself by being true to oneself. The coaching style would define myself would be a mix of commanding and Co-operative coaching style. As a coach, I expected the athletes know what is expected of them. The goals of the team need to be Mutual with a clear and firmly set. I will allow the Athletes involved in decision-making and goal-setting. The athletes need to be able to make decision when they are playing the game or drill. I will demand good teams with the organization and when making game day decision for formation.
I believe that athletes excel in sports they enjoy and I hope to make the experience the best it can be for them,
A coach’s ethics and values underpin the coaching process and will have either a positive or negative impact on the participants. They should be able to follow and adhere to their own coaching philosophies in each stage of their delivery and encourage and empower participants to make effective choices and decisions about which technical and tactical requirements they need to use in their particular sport.
Being a sports coach is a stressful career, you have to have a bachelor’s degree. They also have to train in CPR and first aid and sometimes in sports safety and coaching fundamentals. Coaches use research to find new plays to use. Sport coaches use qualitative and quantitative research every week. Sport coaches have to be really good with kids or they could lose their jobs.
I would recommend Coach needs to continue to explore new technologies such as social networking websites as a cost effective consumer communication opportunity to increase online and store sales and build brand awareness. As part of Coach’s direct marketing strategy, the growing number of entering to the Coach’s websites provide an opportunity to increase the size of databases of each country’s households.
Personal Philosophy The philosophy of personal coaching is to empower others to know the greatness they have within themselves. Empowering them to trust their own insights and doubts about their life. God desires for us to live our lives happy and fulfilled in Him. God knows who we are and He knows our capabilities.
The first sub-theme ‘Experience’ established most of the coaches had involvement in sport at a young age and felt that competence is acquired more through practice and early sporting experiences. Interestingly the coaches all identified a key individual who helped or mentored them through the early stages of their coaching career and highlighted their coaching development benefited from those they perceived as
CONFLICT MANAGEMENT- any issues that arise can be resolved and conflict can be managed successfully; OPENNESS- the good coach promotes open lines of communication which helps with conflict management. The athlete can approach the coach easily ; MOTIVATION – athletes want to be part of a successful relationship ; PREVENTATIVE – coach can predict problems that may arise, they discuss ‘what if’ scenarios and expectations ; ASSURANCE – the coach assures the athlete that they are committed and makes personal sacrifices as proof ; SUPPORT- coaches help the athlete
Have you ever been in a situation where you just want to speak what is on your mind? Assistant coaches get this awful feeling more times than what they should. In all sports at any level, there are always going to be the people who help the head coach. These people are known as the assistants. I find it quite fitting that these individuals are given the title assistant, given the fact that their role is exactly how one would define this word.
Overcoming the fact that one day you will not be able to play your sport is one of the hardest things all athletes must one day go through. It is a fact of the game that one day your eligibility runs out or if you are one of the lucky few who play professionally, your body’s years of health do not last forever. Coaching just to be around the sport and spread the joy that sport gave you for so many years. My coaching philosophy relies extremely heavily on this information. I have always been a person who is passionate about the things I love because I do not believe in not putting your whole heart into something. The most critical component to success in whatever sport you love lies in honoring the game that so many before you loved and excelled at. Excelling and honoring the game means having respect for everyone involved with the sport. Giving respect to your coaches is something I learned from the beginning. Being respectful and having a positive attitude learned at a young age is something completely taken for granted until you have adults who can neither adapt nor be flexible when something does not go their way. Sport is a form of education in that it teaches you similar life lessons that will be useful for far longer than the amount of time that you spend actually playing it.
The attitude to a culture of coaching needs to change. Line managers at the moment generally don’t see this as their role. Line managers already have some of the necessary skills needed to coach but as ILM (2011) states “coaching is a management skill that people have to work on and improve. This calls for training, experience, ongoing development and support.” This therefore means that ongoing training will be needed. The way to support line managers and to make sure they believe in the importance of this programme is by using workshops and allowing managers to choose if they want to be involved or not. Forcing someone to be involved is likely to cause issues. Set the managers up for success with the understanding of
Reflecting daily upon these values will increase my ability to articulate a holistic coaching philosophy. A personal coaching philosophy can be used as a tool itself, enabling a coach to question their practices and develop their own understanding and knowledge (Nash, et al., 2008). Already being interested in Sports Psychology, the reflective learning practice was already something I was aware of and keen to know more about.
