Coach Pace teaches Business and Marketing at Amory High School. He has been teaching those classes for four years now. In an interview, he gave me his perspective on his teaching position.
Coach Pace is a leader when it comes to the DECA program. He was asked what DECA stands for. He told me it stands for “Distributive Education Clubs of America”. Coach Pace believes that DECA is beneficial because it can allow members to obtain scholarships and new friends. He says that when DECA members go on trips, they participate in individual and team competitions. Those competitions involve role plays, as well as interviews. He was asked “How many competitions does DECA have in a year?” He responded with “DECA has two to three competitions a year and
Mr. Chambers’s presentation was highly informative and relevant to our class coursework. Learning about his educational background gave me great insight into what it would take to become an Athletic Director on the collegiate and high school level. It is always interesting to learn about the different life events and opportunities that shape where an individual ends up on the professional level. Mr. Chambers had a friendly, laid back style of delivery that was easy to listen to. Having someone from the community who is experienced in the area of athletic administration helped me to make connections between course material and the real world.
Coach Steve Rocker is one of the most successful high school basketball coaches in Kentucky’s history. Coach Rocker was very successful in previous years. Strangely, this year was very different for him. For the first time in his professional life, he is falling short of his expectations, the community expectations, and the team’s expectations. His team lost a lot of games, but most importantly the boys had no motivation or desire to bring the team out of the rut they found themselves. His players have lost their will to win, their love for their teammates, and their passion to play. Coach Rocker’s motivational methods that have always worked before and resulted in success are now failing, and he doesn’t know why. He argues that his players have become selfish and bored with winning because they have been so successful in previous years. “And there’s no question that my guys have lost their drive to win because they’ve won so much in the past. Now all they want is individual ‘wins’…which just doesn’t cut it on a team” (Gongwer, 2010, p. 17).
I will inspire athletes to demonstrate good character. Sports do not have an influence on one’s character; however, coaches can strongly impact athletes’ character, both negatively and positively. For this reason, I will work to coach in ways that support the growth of athletes’ character and create learning opportunities and situations in which athletes can practice and learn from. As a coach, I will lead by example and demonstrate good character because actions speak louder than words. I will do this by embodying sportsmanship and respecting athletes, opponents, other coaches, and referees. I will also show this to athletes by respecting, caring, and being trustworthy. I will also lead by example by staying

As elected president of Washington’s largest DECA Chapter my senior year, I found myself tasked with leading a 280-person club to international competitive success, but also striving to foster the same growth in others that DECA did me. Today, I see a different person than the one that stuttered reading that Robert Frost poem in 8th grade. I see someone committed to overcoming challenges, learning, and dreaming
Although the many roles of a business professor are difficult to determine, Mercer University’s mission statement provides a surprisingly thorough account of these roles. The mission statement, “to teach, to learn, to create, to discover, to inspire, to empower and to serve,” may not seem like a description of the roles, but one would struggle fruitlessly to think of a great business professor who did not fulfill these roles. The importance of these roles is undeniable, however, among these roles, learning is especially important and is also the most appealing to me. This appeal is due not only because learning is the precursor for other roles, but also because of my personal adoration of learning.

So many Coaches have talent and dedication for what they do. I 'm proud to play for one that has a spectacular history of coaching. That coach is Dennis Lorio, who Graduated from LSU (Louisiana State University) with an economic degree and played baseball. “I love the intensity and the relationship in football” Coach Lorio explaining with a passionate expression. I can see it in his eyes that he is very dedicated and hardworking coach. As of now he is 62 years old and still willing to coach. “It’s not the same without coaching. The joy and the sorrow I feel during the season has been addicted to me. I’ve been in this game almost all my life and that is a very long time.”
The competitive athletics programs of member institutions are designed to be a vital part of the educational system. A basic purpose of this Association is to maintain intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the educational program and the athlete as an integral part of the student body and, by so doing, retain a clear line of demarcation between intercollegiate athletics and professional sports (NCAA, 2011).

The Pacers would get the bats going early in the top of the second inning with runs by Christian Dix and Michael Sterne, who scored off an early error made by the Pride. Dix would come to plate again to score Easton Payton and advance the Pacers lead 3-0 at the end of the third inning. The Pacers’ offensive would continue to stretch thier lead in the fourth inning, as Nathan Holt single would advance Tyler Tilson to home plate; Easton Payton double scored Justin Torres followed by a stolen plate produced from an error by Pride allowing Payton to score, and extending the lead 6-0 at the end of the fourth inning.

In my team, there is an ongoing joke that whenever we mention our participation in Academic Decathlon, we will undoubtedly get asked, “Why would you do that to yourself?” To many, spending countless hours after school studying seven packets of varying subjects, preparing for speeches, and practicing on-demand essays is unappealing. It is for this reason us decathletes formed a tight knit community. Together, we are like minded friends motivated by the goal of competing at a national level. The unifying characteristic in all of us is our determination; whether it is at libraries, Starbucks, or even in our school’s hallways, we will find a way to met and study.
