Classroom Two is also an Elementary special day class Ms. Lopez is the teacher, she has been teaching for 5 years. She has a Masters with her special education credential. She is Bilingual she speaks English and Spanish. The children she services have speech and language impairment and on the spectrum for Autism. The classroom ratio is one adult to two children. She had two instructional aide and 6 children in the classroom. When I went it was in the afternoon they were in centers. Ms. Lopez had assigned each child to a table. Once table had a worksheet where the children had coloring page with numbers the children had to color the number the color the number stated Example 2-orange. The other table had name cards for them to write their
For my observation, I observed a first to third grade special day class at a public Fresno Unified School District classroom in Fresno, California. When I first entered the classroom all the students, approximately 10 students, were sitting down on the rug in front of the class as the teacher was reading a short story to them. When she finished they would go over their reading assignment.
I observed a sixth grade classroom (eleven to twelve years of age) at a middle school in Ringgold, Georgia. The classroom seemed to be fairly even in regards to how many children of each sex were in the classroom. The majority of the students were white with a few african american and hispanic children among the mix. The sixth grade classes did not have enough employees to only teach one subject therefore, the teacher that I observed taught language arts and mathematics. The first thing you notice when you walk into the classroom is the mathematical shapes all along the upper wall like a wallpaper border. These shapes were projects from her students in the years before. The next thing that you’ll notice is the way the desks were set up. They were set up in three separate groups. One group of around twelve desks faced the
Every time I go to a salon I am very open about my life with my beautician. It made me wonder; Am I the only one who does this? I set out to observe this behavior by scheduling a pedicure. What better way to complete a homework assignment and to be able to observe without looking conspicuous? The salon I went to had ten pedicure chairs. As I walked in, I noticed that I was only the third customer there for a pedicure, so it looked as if I would not be able to observe what I came to see. An employee of the salon asked me to pick out my nail color, have a seat in chair number 7, and then proceeded to ask me what type of pedicure I wanted. After I chose my color and type of pedicure they then asked me if I wanted anything to drink. They offered me water, soda or wine! I thought about the
Conducting classroom observations are very important to the prospective teacher. Observing helps show how experienced teachers manage their classroom. For this observation it was important to notice how the classroom was arranged, how the teacher interacted with the students, the teacher’s management style, and interview the teacher.
Primary, some parts of the case preparation chart was confusing at first, such as putting values on certain criteria in order to choose the best possible answer. However, it did help me gather my thoughts and formulate potential solutions for the case study. Conversely, I was stuck when having to put myself into the instructor’s point of view in order to correctly access the issue. Correspondingly, my initial solution to the problem was for the instructor to look back at previous works of the students to in order to compare writing style and credibility of the doubled assignment and both of the student’s past work. However after discussing it with my group I realized my solution wasn’t an effective method as it essentially focused on judging the two students con their past. Ultimately, my final answer was to give them both zeros on the assignment which did surprise me considering originally I thought that giving them both zeros was unfair.
For this lesson students created bird feeders out of simple materials. Before the activity started, I had to make a change considering two students were allergic to peanut butter honey was used instead. This change was simple and did not affect the overall activity. When the activity was introduced I had a premade bird feeder so the students can see what it could look like. The toilet paper rolls had the holes cut out of them before hand and in order to make the stringer process a little easier for the students, I taped the ends so they wouldn’t flare. I did put the honey in a container with popsicle sticks so the students could put the honey on the toilet paper rolls easier. The birdseed was in a separate container that was large enough for 3 students to use without the birdseed overflowing the container. After the students finished their bird feeder they
In this particular class, the students were very independent as a whole. The teacher ran a free flowing class so the children were very chaotic a time. The students were learning about 911 safety and most of the activities were based on that topic. Children had the opportunity to create safety signs or work in the block are where they built a lay out of a town. It was also a student’s birthday so they had the opportunity of creating a birthday card or making jewelry out of beads and string for their friend, and then their family. When they completed either of those task they were asked to go into the carpet area and read a book.
In the classroom, the teacher uses songs, clapping, and she sometimes switch the lights when transitioning the children to the next daily activity. Everyone in her classroom follow directions as she asks them to do a certain chore. The teachers had implement her daily routine and she is well preparing because she does not struggle with her children when they asked to move to the next activity. For example, in the morning when the children are playing, she would ask them to start cleaning up, singing a cleanup song. She starts singing “Clean up, Clean up, everybody does your share, Clean up, Clean up, lest put the way. Then she would ask them to wash their hands for breakfast, she started signing a wash hands song as she switched the lights,
My overview project was intended for an eighth grade reading class. The students had a ten day lesson plan based on the types of point of views that they would encounter. The main point for this unit was to have the students understand the characteristics of each point of view. Point of view is crucial to have the readers understand their readings and who is speaking during the text. The classes were constructed in two types of ways, some were teacher lead and others were in peer groups. The teacher lead gave the student the proper information to put in their information packet, and the peer group interaction was to help the students understand and work together on the point of views. During the peer groups they will be reading and writing
Saugatuck Middle and High School was very traditional school. It seemed as though I was walking through a school that I would see on a movie because it was so traditional. There were signs here and there on the walls, they promoted a lot of working together as a school and doing your best, nothing crazy or unique. The high School and the middle School were separated very well and it was not confusing on which part of the school was which. This was very impressive and important because it made it feel like it was two different schools even though they were all in one building. The middle school had a big sign over the hallway that began the middle school that said “Welcome to Saugatuck Middle School” and the high school had pictures of old graduating
In a third classroom I was observing they were learning about inferring, the teacher had the students recall and tell him what had happened so far before beginning reading. While reading he would stop and as the kids to infer how a character felt about something happening and why. The students then would be asked to predict what they thought would happen based on what they inferred. With only a little guidance the students the students were able to understand the content of the book based off predictions, inferring and using clues from the
It was a beautiful day that I decide to come inside and get something to munch. As I enter the room it feels like a magical kingdom inside the four walls protecting this world. It just feels like there is no other place to be around campus than here where lives seem to be alive and enjoying the company of other classmates. While walking in you just feel the positive energy everyone has around this cafeteria. In your mind you’re just thinking of what you’re going to eat and to make your stomach happy. Then the smell of the food just makes you crave more just like the snickers commercial where you are someone else because of hungry. Then I ask the chef that I wanted a cheesesteak with lettuces, tomatoes, onions and some jalapeno with an order of fries. After, few minutes I got my food and head to the cashier to pay, then I was looking for a seat to admired the lives in the cafeteria. After I found a seat in the best spot of the cafeteria I was just catching my eye on what was going on in this magical
The observed classroom was a pre-kindergarten class; which had one general educator (Mrs. P) and two teacher aides (Mrs. W and Mrs. T). This class also had the use of a speech therapist, an occupational therapist (OT), physical therapist (PT), and a counselor. This class consisted of twenty-two students, 12 boys and 10 girls. There were three students who were special needs students and two students who were gifted. The class consisted of 21 Caucasians and one African American student.
The past semester of classroom observations has been very meaningful to me. In the past, I had to dedicate all 20 hours to a single subject, typically reading, writing, or math. So, to be able to put in time during different hours of the day was very enlightening as it allowed me to further expand my knowledge of the teaching profession. When I show up everyday at the same time I tend to see the same practices and assessments being used. I divided my time between a third-grade classroom and a fifth-grade classroom. My time spent observing assessments and practices along with discussions about each with my mentors has been a valuable learning experience for me.
Classroom observation is a main approach of teaching research. Scholars or researchers use video to record the real whole class and observe the teachers and students’ actions, words and the efficiency in the class. Though the observation, they analyze what approach is more suitable. This paper will select video 5 and video 3 as the material to do the classroom observation. Different aspects such as teachers’ responds, questions, instructions notes and students’ behavior will be addressed to analyze the efficacy of this class.
