Police and Law Enforcement Response
In society the police officers roles is to effectively enforce laws, police officers are accountable to arrest offenders when they committed crimes, stop all crime to the best of their ability, keeping the peace as much as possible, and also be able to provide services to neighborhoods citizens when needed. The police officers responsibilities can range from a small task to a much dangerous task, some of the people take the police officers for granted. Without polices officers this world would be no good at all crime would be happen from left to right. As the people of the world and community we need to get more involved with, we have to as whole help them as control the crime and maintain orders they can’t do it all by themselves. I truly feel and know that lessened community policing will

For the future I think there are going to be a straggle in money to pay police so therefore us as a community needs to be heavily involved much more now than ever. Probable cause is the definition of “sufficient reason facts that believe crimes have been done and that most belongings are involved in the crimes. If crimes are, active and we have no police officers around at the time of the crime, then that when the community and citizens need to stand out. Providing sufficient information from the help of the community can help the police catch the person who committed the crime. The police system is here to for us but in order for it to work effectively and have strong resources we as the people need to start interacting with each other. Everyone has their rights will have to follow them and police officers has their laws they have to follow. A more perfective way to improve the situations would be to change
Well first and foremost we have the Political Era, this era which was from 1840s to the 1930s. Strengths of this era are common to what we strive for in community policing today, for example in this era the police sought out a very close relationship with the community. Because of the tith act, which required every male to enroll for police duty in a group of families within a community, the police had a lot of man power which was a tremendous benefit for the “wards” (Miller, L., Hess, K., & Orthmann, C. 2005). With the tithing system this established the principals of collective responsibility for maintaining local law and order within their community or “ward” (Miller & all). One of the most important strengths but also a weakness was that the police officers lived within the community in which they
“Community policing is, in essence, a collaboration between the police and the community that identifies and solves community problems” (U.S. Department of Justice, 1994, p. vii). Throughout the years, community policing has become a more popular strategy to help law enforcement officials control and deter crime; however, some areas across the United States has had problems in the past with communities and law enforcement working together to ensure a secure and safe environment. Although it is an officer’s duty to maintain order, keep the peace, and solve problems within the area he or she
The police officers of today have much more of a society impacted relationship with their jobs than they have ever had before. The police have adapted to better work with the communities that they are involved with compared to just overseeing them. This has been a really successful transformation on most accounts. The biggest affect that the police involvement has produced is cooperation. The community, for the most part, is more involved with helping out the police when they need it. Such things as neighborhood watches or an amber alert program within a community is a sure testament to the relationship with the community. The police have figured out that working with the community is an easier path to travel and they can get better results. There are all sorts of programs now where the police try to reach out to the people surrounding them. It is not uncommon for a police officer to be assigned to a high school or a high school program to help reassure the kids in the neighborhood and make them aware that the police are there to help make it a better and safer
Community Policing took a different perspective on crime than August Vollmer. It shows that even though police officers are trained and respond to crimes on time, it doesn’t effect the crime rates. In the past foot-patrol was in place but it quickly failed due to poor management and not enough funds for the program (Bohm & Haley, 2014, Pg. 147). Community Policing was an idea to form a bond between the police and the citizens. If the police paid more attention to the minor problems in
There have been many articles printed out over the years about, “A World Without Police Officer” one of the articles, I would talk about is an article by Mr. Peter Gelderloos. Mr. Gelderloss, stated in his article, “The police are a racist, authoritarian institution that exists to protect the powerful in an unequal system. We don’t want better police. We don’t want to fix the police. On the contrary, we understand that the police work quite well; they simply do not work for us and they never have. We want to get rid of the police entirely, and we want to live in a world where police are not necessary.” (Gelderloos, 2014). Now, I understand where Mr. Gelderloss, get all his angry and ball up emotion from and want to leak out toward law enforcement,
Some people think assigning officers to communities can be rewarding and some people think it is a form of punishment. Whatever the case may be, people need some form of protection. Crime is very real. Today’s violence seems to go far past those standard reasons. As humans, people tend to overlook or forget who are there to protect the society from disorderly people. The good order of a community is important to those who lived and worked in the community. In other words, the little things matter to a person in his or her community. There will always be a person who cares and will take charge in the community.
Community policing broadens the nature and number of police functions compared with traditional policing. It emphasizes organizational change, active problem solving, and external partnerships to address issues that concern both the police and citizens. Community policing shifts the focus of policing by placing equal emphasis on crime control, order maintenance, and service. By providing better training for police officers with the issues of police profiling will make the police officers more aware of police profiling.
In cities and towns across the country, tragic deaths of citizens in confrontations with police have have spiked a wave of distrust for law enforcement. The bad perception for law enforcement is unfair to the officer’s who are dedicated, and mean well in their duties, yet unfortunately, it has created tension between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. Due to the recent deaths and confrontations, reform proposals and new policies have been a national conversation to implement new initiatives to strengthen the bonds between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve. Although, confrontations between law enforcement and citizens in the community have spiked, the concept of community policing is not new. Throughout the years the philosophy of community policing has been to
Law Enforcement officers have one of the most critical jobs in the United States. Their lives are always on the line and they are of high regards. This means they cannot fail! The results of their jobs do not only depend on their actions but also on the people. What this means is the community has a huge role when it comes to solving crime. Though many people may not believe it, they are the key to a successful crime prevention community. The people of the United States don’t really understand both the positive and negative effects that community policing actually brings. Some may say it is very dangerous based on their experiences. Others may say it’s the best way to do away with crime. Today the two will be compared and put to test by true officers serving our country. The facts will be stated and questions will be answered. Let’s take a look at what community policing is really all about!
Community Policing is a value system which infuses a police department, in which the main organizational goal is working helpfully with individual citizens, groups of citizens, and both public and private organizations to identify and resolve issues which possibly effect the livability of specific neighborhoods, areas, or the city as a whole. Community policing can be beneficial to communities. Community policing can help prevent crimes from occurring. As officers get to know a community, they also get to know what is right and wrong with it. Typically, officers remain entitled to an area where crime happens often and as such they are left with fighting it as it is going or after it happened. In community policing neighborhoods, the officers are able to tell what might happen and as
Police officers have played a major role in society by protecting us from crime. Their responsibilities include not only preserving the peace, preventing criminal acts, enforcing the law, investigating crimes, and arresting those who violate the law but also directing traffic, community relations work, and controlling crowds at public events.
Community policing is the most commonly adopted police operational strategy in the world today (Wisler and Onwudiwe, 2009) Would it be realistic to think that one officer could really change a community? Community policing is an operation that involves the unity of citizens and both public and private organizations working together cooperatively to identify and resolve issues that have a mass effect on the safety of a specific area, neighborhood or city as a whole. Effective community policing occurs when the various committees are set up at local level and implement their own programs to prevent crime (Sutton & Fisher, 1989) It is recognized by community based police departments that police cannot effectively handle all issues alone and must partner with others who have the same responsibility for resolving problems. Prevention, early identification, and timely intervention to address problems before they become worse are important factors of community policing. Individuals of communities want to feel that the police department is in touch with their needs, concerns and values as well as a sense of security in the neighborhood. Once the community and police department begin to develop a working relationship, both parties engage in the process of goal sharing, resulting in a congruent relationship (Trojanowicz & Dixon, 1974) Community policing has many positive effects that aggressive policing can have on the relationship between the community and police departments.
The future of policing is fairly clear in what direction it is heading. It has been slowly reforming to meet the needs of the people, reduce crime, and make policing more efficient. Some of the reforms that will probably take place in the future include, better educated police officers and police managers, consolidation of police departments to save on money and resources, upgraded technology, race and gender equality, better testing techniques to recruit and promote within the department, and improved proactive planning techniques. One of these proactive tools that will surely become more widely used and implemented better is community policing. It has been evolving since its first introduction into the
Traditional policing models had very little input from the community they were supposed to serve; the shift of the officer tended to be quite repetitive in nature. Traditional policing was reporting to work, loading up in the patrol car, driving around for hours awaiting a call for service needed and then filing a report or arresting an alleged criminal. Typically just waiting for a call that a crime had possibly occurred is wholly reactive to crime control. That is a gritty summation of traditional policing which was the norm for police departments for many decades. Community policing is considered more proactive than traditional policing; and at its’ core, community policing should be an interactive collaboration of all
They also, of course, respond to dispatch calls of crimes in progress. Crime prevention is achieved through mere police presence. Negative interaction between the community and police is generally the norm. In communities policing, on the other hand, police officers are typically assigned to specific geographic areas in their jurisdiction and establish ties with the various community groups. These groups may include ministerial (church) associations, neighborhood associations, youth groups, etc. The idea is that when police are involved with the community they are not viewed as outsiders who are there simply to enforce the law. Crime prevention is achieved through positive interaction with police and the community. The goals of community policing are to reduce crime and disorder, promote citizens’ quality of life in communities, reduce fear of crime, and improve police–citizen relations. These goals are achieved through three essential efforts: community engagement, problem solving, and organizational transformation. In other words, the police are the public and the public are the police.
