The casue of the Civil War was that the states were not unified as they were intedned to be. Because of regional and cultural differences between the North and South it caused them to separate. At first this separation was not apparent but as time grew it became clear how different the two really were. Although slavery was one of the main reasons for the separation I dont belive that it was the cause for the Civil War. The Constitution which set up the Governmant states that the states are their own unified country or nation. We later see that conflict arises within itself because the South and North have such different beliefs that the South believed it should be its own Nation. This idea is what caused the war. They belived that they were
President Abraham Lincoln used a certain finesse and zest in issuing this proclamation, and I admire the opportunistic measures he took. He issued it as a war measure during the American Civil War, to all states that were not under control of the Union after the victory at the Battle of Antietam. The main factors were it would free all slaves in the Confederate states and prevent foreign powers from meddling in the issue. It provided a great asset to the Union by allowing blacks to enlist in their army. Lincoln had presented the measure as a military necessity and exempted slaves in the loyal border states, and areas occupied by the Union army.
After the Civil War, the reconstruction of a new America commenced. The conditions after the Civil War were prosperous, in the sense that there was economic growth brewing in both the factories and the farms. Also, since the war was mostly fought on Southern territory, the North had minimal rebuilding to attend to. However, the physical reconstruction of America was not a major aspect where America saw success. It was the reconstruction of racial ideologies and a change in priorities, that turned out to be effective for the United States.
We have been studying battles, leadership, and strategies of the civil war. At the beginning of this investigation, most of our group knew nothing about the civil war. We knew a few names like “Robert E. Lee” and “Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson,” battles like Bull Run, Gettysburg, and Fort Sumter. We knew that the Union, or the north, wanted to abolish slavery, while the Confederacy, or the south, wanted it. They fought, and the north won.
join hands in building the union. Although there was some opposition to slavery in the country, the government was willing to concede everything the South wanted regarding slavery to keep it in the Union. Given all these facts, the idea that the South seceded to protect slavery is as absurd as the idea that Lincoln fought the war to end slavery. Lincoln himself said in a famous letter after the war began that his sole purpose was to save the Union, and not to either save or end slavery; that if he could save the Union without freeing a single slave, he would. Nothing could be clearer.
This whole war between the north and the south all started because of one thing. The South wanted slavery intact and the North wanted to keep the union together. Shortly after the civil war came to an end, there was still a problem that had to be dealt with. What would happen to the farms and cities. Not to mention, what would happen if slavery ended? What kind of life would slaves live? The north were the upper states of union. Also were the industrial section of the united states. On the other side, the south were the lower section of the union. Therefore, they were farmers and hard labor workers. They grew most of the food and other goods that go to the all of the united states. The south and the north had many differences between them. They
The Civil War was a conflict in the United States during the 19th century that was fought between the Union and the Confederate Army. The conflict was related to the topic of slavery; the Union tried to end it while the Confederacy tried to preserve it. Ultimately, the Union was successful in winning the war, and the abrogation of slavery was the most significant outcome. However, there were certain events and abolitionists who contributed to the cause. One example would be John Brown.
During the mid-1800’s, the United States at that point could no longer find room to compromise on their views, and the secession of the South from the North showed the beginning of the Civil War. Both sides believed they were fighting for what was right: the Union for the equality and the Confederacy for the liberty of states’ rights. As there was virtually no room for compromise whatsoever, both sides perceived the other as trying to do what would work out to have the higher benefit for them. The sides both generally felt that the war was needed, but the Union felt that the war was a barrier in the growth of the country as a whole and the division was not how the country should stand.
The Civil War The Civil War- a result of difference in opinions, rebellions, and lack of political leadership- was inevitable. Division within the Union aroused over issues of slavery and territorial rights. Thus, the Civil War was an event in history bound to happen due to lack of leadership, extremism, and disagreement. Lack of leadership played an important role in the events leading up to the Civil War. For example, the U.S. Bureau of the Census on historical statistics displays the control of parties in Congress during colonial times (Document 3).
A nation known today as the United States Of America, earned the name from several wars left behind in the years. Some, could have come with a different outcome but, the outcome that we know today brings peace and independence in our country. The American revolution and the civil war that changed our nation, these two wars were both fought with different types of weapons and tactics to succeed. Although one was further back in time, the two were nearly as deadly. The American and the civil war were both fighting for different purposes.
Before the Civil War era, the Federal Government was conjoined to be known as the Union. The Union consisted of twenty Free states and five Border States but all history comes to an end at one point. A year later the Union broke apart bringing in the Civil War due to important causes as well. These causes would be weak presidential leadership, the Dredd Scott decision, the Kansas- Nebraska Act and slavery. While all played an important, three successfully cause the union to break apart.
One country, divided between the North and South, fighting each other- each hoping to achieve victory. A devastating and long four years was coming for the soldiers- the Civil War. Texas, the seventh state to secede from the North, contributes about 65,000 soldiers to the Confederacy, however, almost one-fifth of them lost their lives. So, there is one question that looms over us all- why did Texans choose to risk their lives for such a cause- why did Texas fight in the Civil War?
After the war the even though slavery was abolished, African American still had very little rights, especially in the former Confederate states, this indicates that yes a big part of the war was fought because of slavery but since African Americans were still treated very poorly after the war, it shows that a large part of the war was fought more for states’ rights in general. These states still created laws and enacted legislation such as the Black Codes to try and show that even though they lost the war they still had their states’ rights to pass these laws. The Northern response to things such as the black codes was not so much a humanitarian response but more of a political move. Their protection of freedmen was mainly because they wanted
1) The Civil War was caused because of the state’s disagreement on where slaves should be allowed or if they should be free, therefore slavery was the main issue. 2) Even though slavery began in 1619, it took 200 years for it to become an issue because the slaves were not as important in the beginning as they were throughout the years. Slavery gave plantations a big boost in the economic area. However, the northers started to cause problems when they believed the slaves should be free in every state, but the southern believed it was their right to have slaves as property. 3) The most important even that made slavery an issue of public debate was when John Brown was being sentenced to death.
A success of a nation is often determined by the decisions made by the political leaders in charge of each respective country. The Civil War may not have been successful without the leadership of President Lincoln. James McPherson, an expert on Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War concluded that “Lincoln’s superb leadership, strategy, and sense of timing as President determined the pace of the revolution and ensured its success” (42). Lincoln believed that the abolition of slavery was necessary to save the union (41). He stated that slavery could not be accepted on a moral ground and concluded, “if slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong” (Lincoln).
The American Civil War which lasted from 1861 up until 1865 was vital to American's history. There were a plethora of events that build up and led to the civil war such as; The Fugitive Slave Act, Abraham Lincoln, and Dred Scott decision. There were several other reasons as to why the Civil War happened, but the ones listed above a few main reasons. The Fugitive Slave Act, created in 1850 was a turning event in American history. “The Fugitive Slave Act drew more attention to the inhumanity of slavery and caused increased tension between the North and the South.
