Although in the past there have been negative acts of disobedience, there has also been positive ones. Civil disobedience has impacted the world so much it should not be fawned upon but looked up to. It should be encouraged to help people stand against what they believe is wrong. Therefore, Civil disobedience isn’t a threat but a positive way to live.
A man named Thoreau inspired many others by writing an article on civil disobedience as he argues the system is the one at fault, he mentions, “ I ask for, not at once government, but at once a better government.” (Thoreau, pg 371). With this, Thoreau believes the government has a way of manipulation people to believe that what is wrong can be right. With many afraid to speak up, Martin Luther king held many acts of civil disobedience including his public speeches, that reached out and opened the minds of many others to also stand with him to fight against the racial and inequality in society. By doing these acts of “rebellion” many more historical events on civil disobedience has taken place. Rosa Parks in 1955 also represented a movement for change when she refused to give up her seat due to a law that said blacks had to sit in the back of the bus. With no violence what so ever, Rosa parks simply said no and with it, began a domino effect of change. Activist began to come in place and even students were starting to take action. In 1961 a group of mixed racial people were traveling on a bus called the “ freedom ride”, knowing that trouble would await them, this group showed a true act of civil disobedience by simply riding a bus and facing the horrible acts of hatred from others. With all these events one lead to another; Inspiring, motivating and showing that taking a stand and sharing your voice can make a difference
