We live in a world that is constantly changing from the economy to the technology to even our everyday lives. This constant change can be seen particularly through the political process. The Civic Engagement project reflected these changes immensely with differing parties and their platforms, the various ways individuals could participate in the political process and how people discover their own ideals. The two party system allows citizens the access to an easier and convenient way to form an electoral decision. The two party system creates a system where voters can hold individuals and their parties accountable for policies, changes and implementation of new laws or treaties. When speaking of the two party system, two political parties come to mind, which are the Democratic and Republican party. These two parties are on totally opposite spectrums of ideology. The Democratic party leans towards the liberal side of the spectrum, while the Republican party leans towards the conservative side. This showed the different ways and how easily a person could get involved in the political process. By just registering to vote or writing a letter to the president during the Civil Engagement Fair was an example of getting involved in the political process. During the Fair there were various examples of the two different types of participation that we learned in class in which individuals could take part in. One form of participation seen throughout the fair was conventional participation, which are typical actions that are delivered via established institutions. A perfect example of this was seen during the fair was when students were associating with political parties and learning about their platforms and by contacting the president through written letters. The other form of participation, unconventional participation was also seen throughout the fair as well. Unconventional participation refers to activities which defy cultural norms. An example seen during the Civic Engagement Fair would be when an individual knocked over the pretend wall the Republican group had built to send a message that building a wall was not okay. Political participation is related to the course material because it allows individuals to have a voice in the political process and see how it directly affects the

A two-party system is a frame of a party system involving two major political parties who dominate voting in all elections. As a product, usually elected offices are held by candidates chosen by one of the two
Since the writing of the United States Constitution, the American government has been structured in a way that only truly allows for two parties. Of course there are numerous other smaller parties, however, the key is that these parties are smaller. The most successful way to become elected to a position in the American governmental structure is to have the backing of the Democratic or Republican Party. Over the two-hundred-year history of the United States the parties have changed names and fundamentally altered their core believes. Today, the distinction has become quite clear as the rise of polarization forces a clear, concise difference between the two parties. The Democrats must uphold the liberal ideals while the Republican Party carters to those of a conservative
They suggested that political participation held more than instrumental value and offered a platform for the earning of the virtues and responsibilities that underpin democracy
For hundreds of years, the two party system has dominated the American culture, but many people are confused by what a two party system actually means. Although a two party system is defined as two parties that are bigger than the rest, third parties have greatly impacted elections for over a hundred years. Minor parties still continuously voice their opinions in issues, causing other candidates of either major party to adopt their philosophies. Furthermore, some parties, such as the Reform have actually been successful in obtaining a position, such as governor. Finally, third party candidates have actually taken away votes from a number of nominees over the years.
John Adams, one of the founding fathers, wrote that “There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution” (“Quote by John Adams”). The Two-Party system has been around since the start of America. The Two-Party system is a system that has two parties that the government, or America in this case, has that lead the government or America. At the current time, the two parties are the Republican and Democrat parties. It was created with the idea that everyone can be represented within either of the parties. Even though it does create some representation of the people, the two-party system does not create an equal policy in society because it does not allow people to get far if they are not within either of the two parties, does not allow the idea of having more than two parties, and because it doesn't represent everyone.
There are two main political parties you can choose from in the United States, The Democrats and the Republicans. There are also third parties you can choose from. People can choose to be part of any party. We are divided by the left and right side on the political spectrum. The right are more conservative and the left are more liberal. These two political parties show philosophical differences through their viewpoints on major topics. With so many differences between the parties, finding topics or issues upon which constituents agree on can be difficult.
The parties formed after the Constitution was adopted as the need to systematically search for and encourage popular support became apparent. The structure of a party allows a group of like-minded politicians to mold popular support in the favor of the candidate of their choice where alone they could only accomplish the creation of multiple less organized and therefore less politically potent factions. The nature of the political system already in place gave no value to coming in second or third in elections at any level of government, leading to the natural growth of two strong parties who battle for supremacy at every election (July 22). The winner takes all, and the opposition spends their time getting ready to try again as they wait for their next chance. Once the two parties, Democrat and Republican, were firmly settled in to the system they affected legislation to give themselves automatic ballot access and state funding, making election that much harder for other parties and thereby ensuring that it remained a two party system (July 22).
These two parties would not have existed if it were not for their strong opposing opinions. People typically choose sides because they think the opinion they have is right and the opposing side is wrong. These two groups choosing sides with their strong opinions on how the United States should be governed were the beginning of our two party system. The men who created each party were appointed by President George Washington to serve in his cabinet during his term.
The Democratic Party is one of the two major political parties in the United States. Its origin dates back to the original Democratic - Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson.
When America was founded there were no parties but just a set of laws known as the constitution. It was a moral code to live by. Now today because of our freedom to have our own opinions as citizens we have quickly formed different parties. There are two main parties which are Democrat and Republican. Each of these parties has different views and where they stand on healthcare, national defense/security, and economy.
The message emerging from a recent research series on youth civic and political participation is clear: today's youth are not disjoined from associational and small political life, but they are increasingly disenchanted with formal political institutions and practices. Children and youth under 18 have made sententious strides in recent years toward fuller involvement in democratic processes. These strides,
Civic engagement refers to the ways in which citizens participate in the life of a community in order to improve conditions for others or to help shape the community’s future. It means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes.
A two party system is strong and influential although it allows lesser parties to exist and have an influence. As a result a majority party will form the government and the minority party will form the opposition, and coalitions of the lesser parties are possible. These systems can also be multi-party systems. The Two-party sytem has advantages and disadvantages they consist of: Advantages,: It can lead to political stability which leads, in turn, to economic growth, two-party systems have been seen as preferable to multi-party systems because they are simple to govern, while multi-party systems can sometimes lead to parliament. The disadvantages: Two-party systems have been criticized extreme views, and putting a second opinion on debate within a nation, two-party systems for fail to provide enough options since only two choices are permitted on the ballot, the problem with having only two parties is that the nation loses "the ability for things to bubble up from the body politic and give voice to things that aren’t being voiced by the major parties." Multi-party governments permit wider and more diverse viewpoints in government, and encourage dominant parties to make deals with weaker parties to form winning coalitions. I think having a two-party system is ideal because neither major party is strong enough to win without bringing up specific topics that they believe in or their ideology of their party. The way the Republicans and Democrats present
