I am a senior student at Union College writing to apply for the Summer Analyst position at Citi Global Function. I believe that my strong academic background, my passion for exploring new materials, and my love of challenge have prepared me for this 10-week program. I am looking forward to applying my experience of conducting research to solve real-world problems in Citi’s challenging and diverse working environment. I believe working with other professionals will improve my working aptitude and help me become task-oriented.
As a double major in economics and mathematics, I believe my academic coursework has refined the skills and abilities that would assist me as a Summer Analyst. After applying to graduate one year earlier at Union, I chose

The experience of participating in the Putnam Exam and being a part of the team that received Meritorious Winner Prize (top 10%) in the Mathematical Contest in Modeling encouraged me to take more advanced math courses. I finished all of the course requirements for my math major by the end of my second year. In order to practice my logical thinking, for two years I kept submitting correct solutions to the math department weekly problems. I have also developed my statistical abilities as a student at Union College. The experience of working as a tutor in both the economics and mathematics departments since sophomore year inspired me to analyze the relationship between students’ work habits and their academic performance. Therefore, in that same summer of 2015, I worked on a third project in a completely new economic field, education analytics, to study student academic success at Union College. Completing independent studies and team-based research projects simultaneously has helped prepare me for facing challenges in a dynamic environment, like Citi.
During my three-years of undergraduate studies, I enjoyed facing and overcoming different academic challenges. I want to continue pursuing my interest in finance and extend my research experience in solving real-world problems at Citi Global Function. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to further discuss my qualifications with you. I can be reached at 518-366-2899 or Andiejiam@gmail.com. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to your
Neill provides data on the increase of amount of students working full-time and part-time jobs during their education. She shows how this has been increasing since the 1970’s and more students are having to work while attending college to pay for expenses. This source also helps demonstrate how a shrinking middle class is affecting college students because low-income students need to work during college. It also provides more evidence on how increasing tuition is affecting students in general.
In the fall of 2012, I enrolled in North Hennepin Community College to pursue an Associate’s Degree in Accounting consequently awakening my thirst for learning. Majoring in accounting was an easy choice since I had a background in bookkeeping and I have always enjoyed working with numbers. My goal when I first enrolled in North Hennepin was to acquire an Associate’s Degree, and join the workforce, however, as I progressed closer to finishing my course there, I realized I wanted a Bachelors’ Degree since I enjoyed challenging myself and learning material that was critical to my career.
The relevant independent variable in his study is hours worked by a student; the relevant dependent variables in his study are credits completed per semester and student GPA. Darolia’s study also considers disparate effects on GPA and credit completion based on student characteristics (e.g., gender, full or part-time status).

During the following summer, in 2015, I participated in the Bucksmore’s OASP Program at Oxford in order to confirm my initial thought. There, I took Economics and International Business Management as majors. The courses and the teachers were fascinating. I was delighted to discover new concepts and ideas and to participate actively in the debates within our group. At the end of the program I received straight A’s and appreciative comments from all my
This excerpt from the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts’ (LSA) mission statement, “…provides students with adaptive skills to solve problems,” supports my objective of hopefully using mathematics as a nexus to solve some of the country’s inexcusable societal shortcomings. And as an aspiring pure mathematics major, this excerpt from the Department of Mathematics’ mission statement, “…to further the field of mathematics and bring its power to bear in the solution of problems for the good of mankind,” completely aligns with my passionate commitment to my objective. Feeling supported and having the same operational intents of the College and Department to which I hope to transfer and study lays the foundation for my attraction to LSA.
Throughout my entire life, I have always been one to constantly push myself and pursue new challenges. In high school, I excelled academically while also being a three-sport athlete, a member of the National Honor Society, and held an active presence in my community. In the classroom, for as long as I can remember, I’ve been intellectually curious and fascinated with solving problems through quantitative reasoning. The desire to continue my education in a quantitative field and gain important soft skills, while also boasting the ability to be involved in many extracurriculars led me to pursue a degree in economics from DePauw University. In a constantly changing industry such as finance, it is imperative that one is able to adapt quickly and think outside of the box, and DePauw has prepared me to do just that. I
I must make note of Andrew’s exceptional academic performance. Out of a class of 131 students, Andrew is ranked eighteen. Andrew’s academics are a high priority and he has maintained his grades well above average. He has challenged himself in taking Advanced Placement classes along with Honors level classes. Presently, he is dual enrolled at Bloomsburg University participating in the STEM Magnet Program. His performance is a direct result of his hard work and strong focus.
Georgia Tech is one of the most exalted schools in southern Georgia; every gifted student has considered applying at one point or another. The extreme difficulty and strenuous workload of some of the courses, in particular the formidable mathematical courses, puts off many from further consideration or even attempting the grind. However, I consider myself a risk-taker. I don’t want to waste my time taking an effortless, easy journey through college. Georgia Tech, although difficult, will be completely worth the while. This school will encourage me to achieve great things, and these things will take so much time and effort that my competition will never even have dreamed of accomplishing these goals. Victory at Georgia Tech would mean so much
Today’s world economies are so tied together and react to one another that only the brightest and smartest will survive. The better educated a student is in the specific career that they have chosen to earn a degree in will give them the educated edge so that they can out compete with foreign markets. President Barack Obama said "In this kind of economy, countries who out-educate us today will out-compete us tomorrow. Already, China is graduating eight times as many engineers as we are. By 12th grade, our children score lower on math and science tests than most other kids in the world,” (“Full”). American colleges need to do a better job at improving math and science scores so that the graduating student can better compete in the world market Asian countries are continuously outperforming American students. Gary W. Phillips, chief scientist at the American Institutes of Research said “In this case, the bad news trumps the good because our Asian economic competitors are winning the race to prepare students in math and science,” (Dillon). The better colleges prepare students to edge out competitors in the world market needs to be their priority.
Throughout the Project-Based Instruction class, there were 14 senior students from Mr. Leija’s Calculus I Dual-Enrollment class and one student from Pre-calculus. In total, there were 7 females and 8 male students. These students come from Homer Hanna Early College High School which is located in Brownsville, Texas. These students are top of their class and are extremely talented in sports, music, and their academics since they seek to receive college credit while taking this course.

Every year the number of graduating college students is drastically decreasing. We believe that there
Since the beginning of the 20th Century, college education has been available for everyone and anyone who is willing to develop their knowledge regarding a specific professional field. Currently in the United States, the percentage of high school graduates going to college has increased considerably: 68 percent in 2011 compared to 49 percent in 1940 (Menand, 2) and the record high set in 2009 with 70 percent of total high school graduates enrolled in college ("Bureau of Labor Statistics"). Notwithstanding, it has come to the attention of many that the college tuition and fees have been increasing at an accelerated rate. According to The New York Times, college tuition and fees increased 439 percent from 1982 to 2007 (Lewin, 1). This
In this project, the student will determine the cost of receiving a college education in one private school, as well as a public school. The student will calculate all expenses that will be incurred during the time of college including tuition fees, book costs, recreational expenses, food, and other costs. The student will additionally choose a career he wishes to attain, and, based on the college he attends, will calculate the likelihood of obtaining that position after college. The chosen profession will also be representative of the level of education, desired income, and interests the student wishes to have. After predicting the annual income for this occupation, a strategy will be made to pay off federal and private loans after college which will take into account other post-college expenses and prospective income. The student will include inflation rates for all components of this project because prices are likely to change before attendance in the years 2017-2021. This project will help the student understand the financial facet of attending college and allow him to apply mathematical concepts learned in
I am applying to the Goldman Sachs Summer Analyst Internship program because I would like to work in your legal department as I am an aspiring law student. Although, I do not study business or finance I have a well balanced academic background that has ingrained a strong work ethic in me. I am thoughtful, organized, and disciplined in both my studies and personal life which as a member of your team, would be evident. An example of such performance can be seen through my studying of languages, which have included Spanish, Latin, Italian, and beginning Arabic. In such classes I have been challenged both intellectually and personally as they have each taught me lessons about the world, culture, and human interaction. From such lessons I was inspired
