Who is Scarlett Berenisse Mendoza Rodriguez? Is it an American girl? Is it a Mexican girl? Is it a teenager that always complains about her way of living when she has all that she needs because her mother works too hard, so that her siblings and her, can have everything necessary to survive? Yes, I am all of them. I am a Mexican-American minor trying to figure out what to do with her existence. A young lady that is repeatedly complaining about what she does not have while she does not notice what she already has.

I'm Nancy Diaz, a U.S citizen. I've been knowing Claudia Yazmin Salinas Cabarles since 2009. We met at a family event and after that we became really good friends. She's a very generous, respectful and lovely person. She's always helping others and she's a very good mother, daughter and wife. She would do anything to provide for her family.

Although times have changed, Sandra Cisneros’ stories about Mexican-American women provide a cultural division within itself that reflects in a recent time. The cultural themes in Cisneros’s stories highlight the struggle of women who identify with Mexican-American heritage and the struggle in terms of living up to Mexican culture – as a separate ethnic body. “My Name” by Sandra Cisneros is a short excerpt from her book The House on Mango Street (1984). In this excerpt, Cisneros narrator is a girl named Esperanza, who is telling us that her name reminds her of a lot of negatives things, including who she inherited it from. Esperanza is trying to convince us that her name is a terrible name, which is built up of negativity and bad history. She state that she was named after her great-grandmother, who was born in the Chinese year of the horse, which they have in common, and is well known for her wild customs which lead to her feeling sad and lonely all her life. Esperanza specifies that her name sound beautiful among Spanish speakers, but to non-Spanish speakers her name is pronoun funny “as if the syllables were made out of tin and hurt the roof of your mouth” she says. Sandra Cisneros’s short story, “Barbie-Q”, describes the life of a young girl never identified by name and the less-fortunate life she and her family lead. The child explains how new toys are a rare find, but she loves Barbies. While entailing the family’s trip to the local flea market, she and her sister find Barbie dolls with water and smoke damaged. The main girl states the flaws of the Barbie, but counters with the positivity of having any dolls to play with. Through this struggle, however, the girl learns to cope with the gender roles and standards set by her peers and neighbors, particularly for women. Cisneros writes with these ideas in relation to her own childhood, motivated by the social standards of gender roles and body image in relation to the Barbie.

She expresses her desire to “baptize herself under a new name” which would mean being free from what both of her identifications , the Mexican and the American, have categorized her under, a foreign who’s destiny is to wait.

“To believe unfairly that all people or things with a particular characteristic are the same” is one of many definitions for a stereotype. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary makes it seem like it’s nothing at a;l and something small and innocent when, in all honestly stereotypes are cruel and wrong. Using stereotypes in our daily lives should not be allowed because it causes people to think less of themselves and limit themselves from one 's full potential. Having these stereotypes in our minds really limits our thoughts and opinions about certain things or people. Both essayist Judith Ortiz Cofer, and Brent Staples have personally experienced stereotyping and people thinking wrongly of them. In Cofer’s essay “ The Myth of the Latin Woman: I Just Met a Girl Named Maria” and Staples “Just Walk on By: Black Men and Public Spaces”, they talk about what they have been through with racial stereotyping and what affects it has them, personally. But even with those stereotypes in play they both prove that stereotypes do not determines someone 's future and people are able to prove stereotypes wrong.

I am analyzing a poem by E. E. Cummings called “nobody loses all the time”. I think on the surface this is just a poem about a pretty unfortunate, average guy with not the best luck, but there are a lot of hidden messages in the poem. For example, the main character is Uncle Sol. The word “sol” means sun, which is clearly an important symbol. Though Uncle Sol’s “farm / failed because the chickens / ate the vegetables” (16-18), Uncle Sol was not viewed as a failure through the chickens’ eyes. My name is Primo Michele Levi. Todays my birthday. I am 24 years old, born in Turin, Italy. I have one sibling, Anne Maria Levi. Anne Maria and I have always been very close, I was always considered small and shy, and I was a frequent target of bullying. I also thought poorly of myself aswell, I often thought others viewed me as ugly and scrawny. I had also excelled academically, always having straight A’s and was the smartest student in my grade. By early teens I had liked chemistry a lot. When I was 11 I entered the Massimo d 'Azeglio Royal Gymnasium. In class I was the youngest, the shortest, and the smartest. I was also the only Jewish kid. When I was 13 I joined the Avanguardisti movement. I joined the ski division, and spent every Saturday during the season on the skiing above Turin. When I was 17, I failed my final exam. It was my first bad grade ever. At the end of the summer I took the exam again and passed, and in October. I got into the University of Turin to study chemistry. I spent three months taking classes, and in February, after passing my oral exam, I was chosen to do a full-time chemistry class. In 1941, I graduated. Today, my family and I are fleeing to northern Italy, where we plan to join an Italian resistance group.
