I watched “Cinderella” from the list of Animated Fairy Tales for Children. The characters in this fairy tale are Cinderella, cruel stepmother, and stepsisters who reduce Cinderella to scullery maid. Cinderella is the main character in this movie, and there is no heroic character in this story. As Seger emphasizes in Creating the Myth, “the hero begins as a nonhero; innocent, young, simple, or humble” (qtd. in Seger 336). In Cinderella story, Cinderella is the main character; she shows innocent and pure image throughout the story. She also is a simple person who is being exploited by her stepmother and stepsisters. The next pattern is that “Then something new enters the hero’s life. It’s a catalyst that sets the story into motion” (qtd. in Seger …show more content…
in Seger 336). When Cinderella cries, her fairy godmother appears and helps her with magic. Then, “the hero is now ready to move into the special world where he or she will change from the ordinary into the extraordinary” (qtd. in Seger 336). Cinderella attends the party with a beautiful dress and glass heels. Follow next, “now begin all the tests and obstacles necessary to overcome the enemy and accomplish the hero’s goals” (qtd. in Seger 336). Because of the magic, Cinderella has to leave the party before midnight. At the party, she is really a gorgeous princess and the Prince is attracted by her beauty. She leaves her heels when she run to come back home in time. The final pattern is “Since every hero story is essentially a transformation story, we need to see the hero changed at the end, resurrected into a new type of life” (qtd. in Seger 336). The prince will marry the one who fit the glass heel, and only Cinderella can do that. They marry and Cinderella has a happy life in the castle. Although this story has no heroic character, the main character follows a similar pattern of the hero in many fairy
Cinderella is one of the most well-known fairytale around the world. It is a story about a girl who lives with her step mother and her 2 step sisters, she is not treated with respect, more like a servant. She mets the prince, and then ultimately he saves her from her step mother. Cinderella highlights key issues with gender roles and stereotypes. It suggests when determining a woman's worth, it is based on their physical appearance, not on other aspects of them, such as personalities or beliefs. These ideas are clearly evident in sections of the film when Cinderella is determined as ugly because of her original rag-like clothing, this idea changes when she is dressed in her ball gown, because of this the prince falls in love with her.
Cinderella is a classic tale popularized by a man named Charles Perrault’s in 1697, is a story about a girl who loses first her mom and then her dad but not before he marries a nasty step mother who brings along her two daughters. In this version of the book the father passes away on the first page, leaving Cinderella with all alone with her new step family. It doesn't take long before she is made the servant daughter doing all of the chores while the step mother and sisters lavish in the chambers. Cinderella ends up having a fairy godmother who grants her the wish to attend the ball, turning ordinary objects into the necessity for a ball including a beautiful gown and glass slippers Cinderella was on her way. The only catch being that when the clock struck midnight all the magic will be gone and everything would go back to normal, on her way out as she ran down the stairs Cinderella lost her glass slipper half way down. The prince was determined to find the beautiful girl who wore the shoe, he searches all the town. Being the Prices last hope Cinderella was a perfect fit, and the step sisters threw themselves at her feet, begging for
The Grimm Brothers version of Cinderella is a written down oral story that people passed down from generation to generation, meant to teach a lesson about piety and good behavior. Before the Grimm Brothers ever wrote it down, the story had been told several times by memory. It is thus not surprising that the descriptions of certain events in the story, such as the way Cinderella went to the Ball, are lacking in details. It is obvious that these parts of the story are unimportant to the overall message of the story. Instead, it focuses on the piety of Cinderella and the wickedness of the step-sisters. Through the events of the story, it becomes obvious that the goodness of Cinderella is justly rewarded, and that
In "Cinderella" by Charles Perrault, the story depicts an imaginative fairytale through the hardships of a mistreated daughter and the magic of a fairy; in essence, Cinderella demonstrates that focusing on materialism is more important and more effective other than working up the path to majesty. Cinderella is a character who is often mistreated by her stepmother and god sisters. Bearing unsuitable personalities, they treat her harshly, leaving all of the chores to her. However, she admits that her tattered clothes are not worthy of a formal event, and continues to be belittled by her stepsisters. Portrayed with low self-esteem and insecurity, she does not respond harshly to their cruel insults. As a result, the main character relies on
Two early Cinderella stories, that of the early Egyptian Rhodopis and German Grimm Brothers’ Cinderella, show how two cultures perceive the world through the story of Cinderella. The Egyptian culture focused more on the godly intervention and how human gods are separate from the gods above. While the German story focused on nature and how the dead that were good hearted are in nature (the mother), which in turn helps out those like Cinderella. The two cultures show how they believe that the gods and nature rule the earth. Even though others don’t like Cinderella, she can still succeed, her fate isn’t predestined by others actions. This is a compelling idea that intervention made Cinderella a beautiful bride. Her
For hundreds of years, the publication of literature such as novels and paperbacks always seem to include the same story methods of utilizing a hero character that is important to the story line. This character is usually expanded on throughout the story as the problem/complication is revealed. This kind of character follows similar heroic patterns and cycles compared to other well-known stories. In modern literature, the story of Cinderella certainly follows this distinct pattern. Three crucial characteristics of a hero’s life include mentors/hero partners, dark road of trials, and ultimate test.
It was the day of the ball and Cinderella’s Stepmother, Lady Tremaine, locked her in her room because she didn’t want Cinderella embarrassing her them by her stealing from the royal family. Cinderella cried and pleaded that she wouldn’t steal, but she didn’t believe her. Cinderella stopped crying and continued to get dressed for the ball. She heard everyone leave and then broke out of her room. After all she is a thief, one door wasn’t going to stop her from leaving. She made it outside and was off to the ball on a hoverboard she stole a week ago.
The two step sisters had plans to attend but as far as Cinderella she had to finish all of her chores before her step-mother considered allowing her to go. Cinderella finished all that was asked and went to put her mother’s dress on. Her envious sisters destroyed her dress and completely ruined any chance of her going to the ball. At Cinderella’s lowest point her fairy god mother appeared and explained that she is going to help. The fairy god mother gave her everything she needed to attend the ball with one rule to follow. Before the strike of midnight, Cinderella would have to return because all of the magic would disappear. She was excited and thought midnight would be more than enough time. As soon as Cinderella arrived at the ball it was clear she was different and stood out among all the eligible ladies there. The prince had no interest in any of the woman until he laid eyes on Cinderella. He immediately approached Cinderella not knowing anything about her or her title and danced the night away. At the approaching hour of midnight she quickly made her escape and the prince was left with a vacant heart. He knew he met the love of his life that night. When Cinderella fled that night however, she left behind her glass slipper. Cinderella who was always an optimistic person continued and went back to her old lifestyle she didn’t realize she danced the night with the prince and couldn’t forget that memorable night.
Moreover, the supernatural intervention is a slightly less prevalent yet noteworthy symbolic archetype that aids the closure of the plot. The Fairy God Mother falls under this example due to her role in assisting the protagonist with her divine and magical powers; explicitly, equipping Cinderella with a dress, a chariot, and her iconic glass shoes. The Godmother is a spiritual being who only awakens after realizing Ella’s extreme desperation, she promptly aids her with any necessary gifts which allows her to
Cinderella, by the Brothers Grimm, described the life of a maiden named Cinderella. Born to a loving family, Cinderella’s life had drastically changed when her ailing mother had perished from her disease. After the death of Cinderella’s mother, her father had married another woman, who had two daughters. Unfortunately, Cinderella’s step-mother and step-sisters were cruel to Cinderella, forcing her to wear rags and perform chores. Instead of voicing the abuse, Cinderella submissively endured the appalling treatment and had her value reduced to a servant. As years progressed, the king organized an extravagant ball for three days, designed to attract the prince to the maidens in the ball. Even though Cinderella desperately wanted to attend the ball, because of the cruelty of her step-sisters, Cinderella remained meek and was warned she would be severely punished if she didn’t sort the lentils. Rather than performing the task and arguing for her freedom, Cinderella wept and was helped by the pigeons. As the ball continued, the step-sisters were discontent with the completion of their tasks, so they resumed to mistreat Cinderella by requesting her to complete further preposterous tasks. However, the pigeons would resume assisting Cinderella, even advising her to shake the tree on her mother’s grave for the appropriate attire to attend the ball. Thanks to the pigeons and the tree, Cinderella attended the ball and established herself as the candidate of the prince’s affection,
I will kill him! Why do I have such simple-minded servants?” The Prince questioned, enraged by the man’s stupidity. The man simply nodded and walked back to the ballroom when the Prince dismissed him. Shocked by what I had heard, I silently tiptoed back into the ballroom. To my surprise, when I looked for the Prince, I found that he was dancing with Cinderella! Cinderella looked gorgeous in her beautiful white dress, surely made by a Fairy Godmother. I know because it’s the same every single time. Cinderella procrastinates and her Fairy Godmother comes to her rescue. Cinderella and the Prince danced all throughout the night. Suddenly, at twelve, she ran out of the ballroom, leaving one of her white stilettos
Each person in the world has heard of Cinderella, no matter what kind of version it may be. Cinderella is the one fairy tale story that has been popular and will always be the one tale that has to be told to children. Words and story lines might be twist and turn, but in the end the knowledge of the story will be learned in similar ways. As we all know when one story is told another is created, when one is at its best then another is at its worse. One version will always be better than another, but no matter what version it might be the story will be told.
Cinderella is a fairytale for children that displayed love, loss and miracles; however, when it is further analyzed, it has a deeper meaning. Cinderella is a story about a young girl who became a servant in her own home after her father remarried a malicious woman with two spoiled daughters. She was humiliated and abused yet she remained gentle and kind. She received help from her fairy godmother to go to the prince’s ball after her stepmother rejected her proposal. Cinderella and the Prince fell madly in love but she had to leave at twelve o’clock and forgot to tell him her name but she left her glass slipper behind. He sent his servants to find her and Cinderella was the only maiden in the kingdom to fit into the shoes. She
Cinderella in this film is portrayed as a sweet and innocent child who years to be loved after her father passes on leaving her in the care of a very evil stepmother. The character of the prince was very different then in the first film. In the other film we find that the prince has feelings and emotions, whereas in this film, he is portrayed as a very dedicated man who falls in love and becomes obsessed. The odd thing about his character is that he is not seen very much in the film, it focuses more on Cinderella, and her family and her attempts to go to the "ball". Also it focuses on the fact that the king is forcing his son to marry.
Although this is considered to be a more modern adaptation of the story of “Cinderella”, the protagonist is still written in with the standard fairytale themes of being weak and needing a man.
