In addition, equally if not more important to Columbus, is getting the aide and consent of the Spanish Monarchs to imperialise the Caribbean and reap its resources for his own personal gain. In this letter to the Spanish rulers, Columbus uses his biased and untruthful description of “the Indies” in order to appeal to the monarchs and justify the exploitation of its people and resources.
