“You can never make the same mistake twice because the second time it’s not a mistake it’s a choice.” Choices can relate to our life in many ways for instance, no matter how big or small our choice is they can have either big or small consequences. We also have to make decisions on what we feel is right but, not every time will it be the right decision. Connections that are made in the book are that if Erik didn’t bully his little brother as a kid would have Paul turned out to be a better kid. Also, if his parents hadn’t led to Paul he wouldn’t have hated his brother and been afraid of him for so long. In the novel Tangerine by Edward Bloor Paul has made many life changing choices. He made some huige decisions but he also made very small …show more content…
In this quote Paul is making a big choice because he never gets to choose what he wants to do so this impacted him greatly. “First day of school, take two. Mom drove me to Tangerine Middle this morning at seven thirty. Paul Is proving to his parents and that he can see and play soccer at the same time. This shows that he didn’t get a consequence because he was able to go to Tangerine Middle because he didn’t have an IEP form.
This proves that even though that all of the odds are against him that some things may go his way without consequences. As a result of his parents letting him go to Tangerine Middle without an IEP form and his parents let him do as he pleased. “Immediately I knew what I had to do I had to go help Tino and them fight the

Paul is determine to show to his friends that he can do the same thing that they can and he is showing them that he wants to be there friend. “After school Henry asked if his brother if he could drive Paul and him over to Tino’s place and he agreed to do so. This is important to Paul because he really wants to be friends with Tino amd them and by doing so he is helping them fight the freeze. As a result of Paul helping them fight the freeze he gained their friendship and trust and that he is always part of the team. “The weapon that he used to kill Luis Cruz was a blackjack. I saw him do it. I saw Arthur Bauer sneak up and Luis Cruz, like a coward, and hit him on the side of the head. Paul had made a strong statement accusing arthur of murder. The shreif pulled up in his car, told Arthur to come over to him and said “Arthur Bauer you're under arrest for the murder of Luis Cruz.” After the shreif made this statement Paul made another important statement “ I saw Erik Fisher tell Arthur to kill Luis Cruz.” This proves that paul is no longer afraid of Erik and will stand up to him now. Paul now can stand up to people unlike before when he was to afraid. That he doesn’t have to hide from anybody. Paul will never lie again from now on he will only tell the
In the beginning of Tangerine Paul, doesn’t understand why he has always hated and been scared of his brother, Erik. “Why didn’t I answer the question? I used to have an answer ready for that question.(39). Paul started questioning himself even though he had a story. He didn’t understand why he started to question his story. However later in the story, he starts to remember his story. “I remembered Castor. Vincent Castor… I remembered spray paint on that wall. Erik and Vincent Castor had found a can of white spray paint, and they had painted something… ‘You’re gonna pay for telling on Castor.’”(263). As soon as Paul starts remembering he, finally, starts to understand, see, why. Why he has always been scared, hated and not wanted to confront Erik. He is finally able to uncover truth about himself, and he feels different, happy and brave, now that he
“I saw you face down Erik and those other guys, and I also saw Arthur Bauer Hit you with a blackjack’’, Page 227. Erik and Arthur had had chosen to hit Luis because Luis was getting back at them for hitting his brother , a 7th Grader and then Arthur him back. This Affected Paul by Luis later dying of a blood clot to his head and Paul was deeply sad and later found out that Erik and Arthur are
As a result of this Paul feels secondary to Eric because Eric gets more attention from Mom and Dad. In page 289 it said,”When we moved to Houston, when Erik was eleven, he realized football was the star attraction.” From this evidence, we see that Paul feels less important to his family. Additionally, we can see that Paul is being ignored, almost to the point where he is abandoned. This helps Paul build his character because he tumbles down, losing more than his
One of the cruelest things Erik did in the book was damage Paul’s eyesight. Because of what Erik did, it ruined Paul’s child/teen hood. He couldn’t play on the Lake Windsor soccer team, he got called mean names, and he was seen as “handicapped” by people including his mom. This just shows how much of a sick person Erik is. Erik may be cruel, but Paul is very compassionate. He enjoys helping people. In the story, Paul helped Luis Cruz with his tangerine business. Even though Paul didn’t have to, he chose to fight the freeze and try to save the tangerines with Luis and his family. Paul may have gotten sick and had problems during the freeze, but he fought through it to be with his friends. Based on that, you know that Paul is a true
Paul has constructed more self confidence to speak the truth compared to his antecedent self. When Paul first meets Tino, Victor and Hernando, on page 108 he states “My stomach started to knot again.” This reveals that Paul is obviously terrified of them because he's the reason for their suspension. In Paul’s mind, if he tells the truth they will tear him apart in millions of pieces, which makes Paul refuse to speak the truth. Later, Paul finally had the courage to admit that he was the one who ratted them out, however Tino reacted surprisingly calm about it. Paul realizes that they are actually really great people, once you get to know them. After Paul took the truth off of his chest, their relationship
Mrs. Fisher made a choice to make Paul an IEP and turn it into Lake Windsor Middle School. This affected him in many ways. One is that he could not play soccer at Lake Windsor because of insurance issues. Another is that Paul was assigned Theresa as his ‘guide’, which had very nice results. Theresa introduced Paul to Coach Bright This was a very good thing. Mom made the IEP form as she as trying to be the caring
The soccer field is important to Paul because playing soccer is his passion and the soccer field is where he finds his almost only confidence. When Paul is on the soccer field, he doesn’t care about Erik or his parents, or anything else going on in his life. It’s just him, his teammates, and the sport. For example, “War Eagles! War Eagles!” We started moving our hands in unison, up and down, changing the chant into the frenzied cry of “War! War! War!” This evidence shows how Paul was just happily shouting along with his teammates, not focusing on anything or anybody else.
This case was brought forth to the court system under of the laws that were determined under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) as an appeal to the decision of the district court was well as the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ). The parents of Zachary Deal believed that the school system failed to provide their son with a Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE) as well as not placing Zachary in the least restrictive environment (LRE) as outlined as a requirement within the IDEA Act as well as in an IEP. Further, the Deal’s were requesting financial reimbursement for Zachary’s private school tuition as well as any other education related services that were provided and funded by the parents outside of the school. While the ALJ found the school liable for part of the reimbursement, they also found that the school was in violation of IDEA because of substantive violations during the process of identifying assistance for Zachary Deal. Both the Hamilton County Board of Education and the Deal family appealed the ALJ’s findings which escalated the court case to a
throughout the novel Paul sees lies and pushes himself to find the truth. “I used to tell people that I once stared too long at a solar eclipse. But if that's the truth, if that really happened, why can't I remember it?” (39) This quote shows the time where Paul sees a lie in his past. because of this Paul is motivated 2 uncover the truth. this gives him a newly found confidence and he ultimately ends up understanding the truth in his past. Similarly Paul again these lies. he feels the need to go deeper, “ I yanked off my coke bottle glasses and shook them at him in Rage.’ There are questions that need to be answered about these! Am I such a stupid idiot fool that I stared at a solar eclipse for an hour and blinded myself? Is that who I am? And I am I an idiot?’” (264) Quotes all leave enormous live and demands the truth. Upon gaining this truth he get self appreciation and understands his past. Examples show site and how it helps Paul deepen his understanding of
In the novel Tangerine, the main character Paul helped Tino and Victor escaped after getting revenge.Everyone knows Paul as a cordial person and he hasn’t done anything bad. Paul faced a conflict and he was smart and knew he had to tell someone.Paul saw Tino and Victor doing something bad and Coach Warner witnessed them. Coach Warner was trying to stop Tino and Victor but Paul tackled Coach and he got caught. They didn’t know what happened, but Paul was smart enough and told the truth. Paul knew if he told a lie , he would deal with it his whole life so he knew if he told the truth, he would have freedom that he is not telling a lie. This proves later on, Paul won’t have to deal with this.
After successfully completing his five first academic years in a public school setting, Jerry was diagnosed with several medical problems. The diagnoses were attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), and a conduct disorder (CD). Afterwards, the team that conducted Jerry’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) decided to place Jerry in a special education setting. The special education team decided that he would be considered successful if he achieve to follow instructions from his teachers 80% of the
Paul has got an old university friend, a character who is very important for this book. His name is Ed Finnerty. He is the fatal character for Paul because he is the one who makes Paul realize his real position and all the people's real positions. He is
Paul is the source of the truth and we can find that out when he has flashbacks and sometimes when he is being an introvert. The thing about the koi, he found out that the osprey are actually taking it and not people going out there fishing. What had happened to his eyes, it was not the solar eclipses fault, it was his older brother and his minion’s fault for doing it to him. Also, when Antoine tells Paul “The truth shall set you free.”, he is telling Paul that he should tell everyone the truth that he knows, he should have more courage in himself and that he should have more self-confidence. Paul is the representation of truth, these flashbacks he has, that tells him the truth and that he should know what had happened. The truth sets him free on page 284 when he confesses that he saw Erik tell Arthur to hit Luis, Luis is the creator of the new “Golden Dawn Tangerine”. When Arthur hit Luis, it caused Luis’ aneurysm to pop and kill
And though Paul is surrounded with Erik’s trouble and evil, Paul received strength through it as well.
One decision that caused Paul to be less afraid of Erik is on pages 262-263. On these pages the author says, “He turned and threw the bat into the Land Cruiser. He got in, and Arthur got in, and they drove quickly away.” (Pg 262-263) This makes Paul less afraid of him because he was able to stand up to Erik and Arthur alone without getting hurt by either one of them. This also caused Paul not to be afraid of Erik because it proved to Paul that Erik wasn't so perfect and put together as he thought. Another reason why Paul is not afraid of Erik at the end of the book is on page 284. On page 284 the author states that, “I stood up straight and faced them all, like I had seen Luis do. “I saw- I heard Erik Fisher tell him to do it.”” (Pg. 284) This shows that Paul is less afraid of Erik because he was willing to expose Erik in front of everyone, and tell the complete truth without being afraid that Erik would hurt him in anyway. Erik Fisher causes Paul Fisher to be less afraid of him by losing control and not denying the truth about the bad things he had
