Intro:
Child labour is one of the many things that is happening today in our world. A child does many different types of work and activities in their daily life, within factories in different countries. According to the Fresh Quotes “You have the power to create a better future. Treat children well.” This quote shows how some people are against this issue. It makes people think how different children life are across the world. The reasons behind this are children being involved in child labor are suffering from unsafe work conditions, the lack of education, and a loss of their childhood. Others might be poverty, illiteracy, ignorance, and poor legal system. These are countless cause why child labour is an international issue that might promote the business of ruthless business investors, however it destroys the future of children. Therefore child labour should be stopped. Body 1:
Claim 1:Terrible working conditions for children.
Support 1:
Factories do not have any safety measures in place for children to be protected from machinery or equipment that they work with.
Evidence 1:
“It is work which, by its nature or the circumstances in which it is carried out, is likely to harm the health, safety or morals of children” (ILO)
Elaboration 1:
Children work in dangerous and also unhealthy conditions which sometimes result in accidents that cause injury or death. They are forced to lift heavy objects that could cause chronic problems at a young age. They can be exposed to
Child labor is a serious problem that affects children from third-world countries all over the world. These children are exploited by multinational corporations ,for their cheap labor all over the world. People, then buy products that come at a cheaper price, from these multinational corporations. These children are often overworked and treated unfairly. People need to stop buying items from countries that endorse child labor.
“Child workers work with heavy machinery and toxic material” according to John H. Cushman in the article Nike pledges to end child labor and apply US standards aboard. Many children have gotten sick lost limbs or even died in horrific and painful ways because of their working conditions. Every day when they go to work they risk losing an arm or even losing their life they are in no way safe. Additionally in some areas if children are not working hard enough they get physically punished. these are only a few of the many cruel ways child labor works.
In the 1900's children as young as 9 years of age worked long hours in mills and factories. In certain countries children are still working those harsh hours today. Child labor was/is a large issue globally, especially for multi-million dollar companies where they have children working harsh ours in factories. These places are unclean, unsafe, not to mention the fact that they are also being underpaid. The public had concerns about the children's’ physical and mental health state. Though one of the main arguments for some families
Child workers in factories Children were viewed as a dispensable source of labour during the Industrial Revolution. Evidence of this is that they were given potentially dangerous jobs, worked to the point of exhaustion and harshly punished for their actions. Children were viewed as dispensable because they were given potentially dangerous jobs. The jobs that children were made to do in factories and mines were often in tight enclosed spaces or close to dangerous heavy machinery. Evidence of this can be found in sources one, two and seven.
Many children are often physically abuse during the hours they’re working. This abuse comes in many different ways from sexual, violence and the continuous working in hazards area. Mr. Matthew Crabtree who started working at the age of eight was asked questions about
Hundreds of thousands of children under the age of 18 are working in agriculture in the United States. According to The Daily Transcript, “Many young people ages 13 to 16 work 70 to 80 hours a week and risk pesticide poisoning, heat illness, injuries and lifelong disabilities.” With this going on, children are being exposed to harm that they may or may not even be aware of. Child labor is more common in the United States (and all over the world) than one might think. There are laws currently in place dealing with child labor, “…which prohibit 12 and 13-year-olds from working most jobs, except on farms, and also say that youths aged 14 and 15 may not work in hazardous jobs, including construction.” (The Daily Transcript). Although these laws are in place, in 2010, 467 child-labor violations were found and
The factories want as much work done as possible so they hire many workers. Most of these workers are underage, since they are cheap labor. Since the children are smaller, they can fit between and under machines, which is very dangerous for a young child. The children are not capable of doing the jobs that the factories require. "There was a twelve-year-old boy that fell into a spinning machine and the machine tore two of his fingers off" (Freedman 36). If children were not working on these machines, this child would not have fallen. Although hiring children saves the owner of the factory three billion
To begin, while children should be playing outside gaining knowledge, they are inside factories six days a week all day. Most children working in textile factories work at least twelve hours a day in harsh conditions. They worked from before the sun came up until late after it went down. Children should be able to sit down and have a meal, they should be able to go outside and get fresh clean air, and they should definitely not be working for 14 hours at a time.
- Child workers are exposed to hazardous conditions that expose them to chemical and biological hazards.
Working in order to help out my family has proved to be very difficult. But I love them with all my heart and will sacrifice performing manual labor over attending school if it meant helping them survive. Other children and I have to endure the harshest conditions. Workdays are typically 10 to 14 hours with barely any breaks during the shift. Unfortunately, the factories that are hiring children end up dealing with injuries and even deaths because they are so dangerous. There are many adults that understand that the machinery runs so quickly, our little fingers, arms, and legs can easily get caught. Besides the equipment, the environment is filled with fumes and toxins. Some children have contracted illnesses, chronic conditions, or diseases
First of all, child labor laws should be regulated so that working conditions are safer. Children’s health is diminishing because of the terrible working conditions. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), “23 percent of all children between 5 and 17 years of age were economically active in the year 2000,” and that “About half of these children are estimated to do work that is likely to harm their health, safety, or moral development” (Huebler 4). There is an enormous amount of children that are being harmed at work, and better regulations should be placed to stop this from happening. Children are suffering from injuries at work and the accidents end up unreported. England’s Health and Safety Executive says that there are, “31 reportable accidents involving under-16s at work over the past two years, including 16 major injuries and one fatality” (White 137). This is why accidents are being under-reported, and children that work in illegal industries are worse off. If there are no regulations and nobody is enforcing better and safer work conditions, there will be more children injured each year.
The first text I read was “Child Labor Is Harmful to the Physical, Moral and Mental Development of Children”, by Mabel D. Awuku. In this text the author discusses that his childhood freedom was being stolen because he was being treated unfairly. He states that he was physically tortured, and he did not get time to enjoy his childhood. He was rejected to get formal education, and he could not even cry. However, he got encourage from a lady lawyer and he told his difficulties to her, which helped him get free from child labor. He mentions nations, organizers, and communities are concerned about preventing the child labour. He specifies that child labor effected by physical, mental, and moral growth. Children were sexually abused and they did not get proper nutritions. Also, child labor is caused by poverty and parents who were not concerned about their children’s physical and emotional development to help their family. Additionally, orphans do any works to survive, but he says that if poverty decrease, then it will help to destroy the child labor. He said that child labor can be banned from giving them proper education.
Child labour is a very real problem in the world today, and although it is declining, progress is happening at a slow and unequal pace. Child labour by the International Labour Organization is defined as “work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that is harmful to physical and mental development (Diallo, Etienne, & Mehran, 2013, p. 2).” In the most extreme forms of child labour it could account for child enslavement, separation from their families, exposure to serious hazards and illnesses and being left to fend for themselves on the streets (Dinopoulos & Zhao, 2007). In order for certain types of work to be included as “child labour” depends on the child’s age, the type of work,
Child labor is work for children, but also harmful to their growth physically, mentally or emotionally. Children were forced to work because of their family’s extremely poor condition where they may be needed to drop out of school. In most kinds of
