I decided to apply to WITCC so I can get two years of training and then move on to a college and keep pursuing my career. I have an ambition to work with numbers and the best career for that is accounting. My plans are to study for two years at WITCC and then go to a four-year college and get my bachelorette degree. For my short-term plans, I’m going to stay in Denison and take care of my child. Attending WITCC will give me a chance to have time for my family and school. I should receive the Lucile Gustafson Scholarship because I have demonstrated a high excellence in scholastic achievement throughout high school and continue to do so at Waubonsee Community College. Throughout my senior year of high school, I have completed 17 college credits through Waubonsee’s duel credit program, all of which, I received A’s. I am currently taken 11 credits this semester though Waubonsee so I can start the nursing program this fall. Furthermore, I exhibit leadership in the participation of clubs. For example, when I was a Freshmen Seminar leader I lead a group of 25 freshmen and helped them learn about high school. I have shown outstanding citizenship by volunteering at Alden Garden of Waterford Assisted Living for the last three years, every Friday for four hours. I help with activities such as manicures, leading card games, and helping with special events such as dressing up as the Easter Bunny and setting up decorations for Christmas. I have participated in many volunteer events through school like helping a forest preserve by planting butterfly garden through Science National Honor Society. I also tutor the subject of English monthly through National English Honor Society. Hence, I am determined to give back to the community and further achieve in academics and leadership. Naim Michael Pope, this is the name I was given at birth, and I guarantee you haven’t met someone with my name before. I was born in Long Island, New York, where my parents, Angela and Gregory Pope, raised me for the first three years of my life. Growing up in a Christian household has helped me through adversity I faced through football, school and friendships/relationships. Throughout my life, finances have been the core of my family’s problems. My mom is the sole caretaker of my siblings and I, and she works very hard to take care of my two brothers and one sister. I am in a position where I am having difficulty finding the resources I need to finish my degree. I took about a year off from working to take care of my chronically ill father. In addition, I have recently been through a divorce and have a three year old child that I’m supporting. My income is not where it needs to be to say the least. I am also in a position where I don’t have a lot of federal aid in loans left to pay for school. A scholarship would help me to stretch the last of my aid to pay for my education. I would be putting a scholarship to great use and it would allow me to focus more on my education and be the best that I can be. This scholarship is very important to me in many ways.This scholarship will help me physically and emotionally if I receive money. For instance, it will make me stress less about how I am going to be able to pay for my tuition and fees and not have debt. The intent of this scholarship is for financial need. Recently my step dad has change jobs which has cut his income significantly. This scholarship would really help paying for college, since I will also have 2 other siblings in college at the same time as me. I will be furthering my academic education at California Baptist University and will majoring in photography. Attending Cal Baptist will give me the best education as well as provide me with a Christian education. The Coastal Bend College Endowed Scholarship Application will be the second scholarship I have applied for because I didn't think about college until my second semester of my senior year when a coach said “you’d be perfect for this job”. After I heard that statement I started looking into studying kinesiology and asking questions about their experiences. Ever since then I have been wanting to become what I think of them, which is a hero. I want to help kids achieve their goals and become someone important. I understand coaches do not get paid a fair amount, but I am willing to accept this fact. To me it is about graduating college and doing something I know I will enjoy for the rest of my life.

Although it was extremely difficult for me to get through my last three years of high school, I still encouraged and forced myself to go to school, instead of just dropping out and getting my GED or taking online courses to get my high school diploma. During my junior and senior years of high school, I attended college and I completed a total of 44 credit hours.
