Child neglect is a form of maltreatment. In other words, it is the failure of parents, guardians or caregivers to meet the child’s needs such as adequate supervision, clothes, shelter, food, health treatments, education and nurturing their emotional, physical, cognitive and mental development. In this paper, we will talk about early childhood neglect from ages birth to five years old, and the benefits of child welfare-supervised children 's participation in center-based Early Care and Education (ECE). Additionally, we will focus on an evidence-based intervention in which we will explore the program’s benefits and positive outcomes for the children that attend the program in contrast to the ones that do not. Moreover, we will identify the correct system of care and some of the programs within the tri-county area that might implement this intervention. Additionally, we will talk about the demographics of the children and setting of which intervention is best for them. Lastly, we will give an estimation of how many sessions are needed for the intervention to work, and what sorts of trainings might be necessary for the well-being of the child.

Child abuse is when a parent or caregiver, through action or failure to act, causes injury, death, emotional harm or risk of serious harm to a child. According to The Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act, as amended by the CAPTA Reauthorization Act of 2010, at a minimum, child abuse and neglect is defined as, "Any recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker which results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation"; or "An act or failure to act which presents an imminent risk of serious harm (Children 's Bureau, 2010)." The law recognizes a child as being any person who is under the age of 18. The law is broken into 2 sections, and each section treats the idea of child maltreatment in different ways. Criminally, those who abuse children are able to be arrested and prosecuted in court. Civil statutes say that people who suspect a child of being abused are mandated to identify and report it.

This piece of work will focus on child neglect and will give a clear and precise understanding of relevant legal issues, appropriate theories and safeguarding practise. Unlike physical or sexual abuse, in which specific abusive acts are directed towards a child, neglect is typically defined by the absence of provision for a child’s basic needs (Gough, 2005). During the past 20 years, the subject and nature of child neglect has been drawn to the notion that this may impact on a child’s development and mental wellbeing. Neglect has been called the ‘Cinderella’ of child welfare topics due to the relative lack of attention the subject has attracted (Tanner and Turney,2006).
The scope of child abuse and neglect in our society is an epidemic of vast proportions in that all children are at risk. Children are abused by their loved ones, friends, friends of the family, those whom they place their trust in, and those bound to care for them. Children of all ages are at risk and vulnerable to abuse and neglect, whether in their homes, their community or even on the internet. This paper will cover the impact that child abuse and neglect have on their development, challenges in identifying abusive home environments, intervention and treatment strategies that are used with this population and key research issues as they relate to child abuse and neglect.

This paper discusses several articles, as well as some college texts, that define and illuminate the four main types of child abuse that exist within the United States. It also discusses some of the effects of abuse and attempts to offer some solutions for this very prevalent societal problem. The definitions of child abuse and neglect vary, based on the context in which they have been studied. Some studies suggest that neglect is the most prevalent type of child abuse in this country. Kaplan, Schene, DePanfilis, and Gilmore assert that neglect becomes chronic when its occurrence is not only ongoing, but seriously deprives a child of basic physical, developmental, and/or emotional needs by someone who cares for them. Throughout history, children have been long subjected to numerous forms of cruel abuses such as neglect, which includes not receiving the proper care and attention, and sexual or physical abuse which involves violence towards the child in a sexual or physical manner. Abuse triggers something inside the child that can turn them into a rebellious, often ill-mannered person. It is believed that those who exhibit the more violent criminal tendencies are more likely to have been victims of abuse at some point in their lives.
The therapy was developed to treat depression and anxiety symptoms that are usually associated with PTSD, (Cohen, Mannarino, & Debinger, 2006).
Child abuse and neglect cases are on the rise throughout the entire United States. With the increasing amount of parents who are affected with co-occurring illnesses, the risk for abuse and neglect continue to increase. Children who are affected by abuse at home will show signs and symptoms of depression, aggression, inability to stay on task, and fear of their parents.
Neglect is the absence of social, emotional or physical care. Abuse, on the other hand, is defined as purposely causing physical harm or injury to children by the individuals caring or for them. If this matter is not ceased its effects can be fatal in the health of children and upcoming adults.
The issue of child abuse and neglect is serious, controversial, and is escalating in today’s society. Many people are not aware, but child abuse is rampant in our society. Many child abuse and neglect cases go unreported because a person may not know the signs and symptoms of child abuse and neglect or perhaps the person or person may feel that this is an private issue and needs to be handle with in the home and no outsiders should be involved. Without the proper awareness of child abuse and neglect and the involvement of everyone this issue will continue to raise our eyebrows.
