Healthcare is my field of interest, and I have found that healthcare makes intensive use of information technology to serve the patients. Obviously, Kaiser is one of the nation’s largest non-profit health organizations that serves more than 10 million members. More importantly, it uses modern IT systems for its business operations. Kaiser has been a successful model of integrated and cost effective care with high quality services to their patients. So, I would like to be an important part of such a great healthcare organization.

While exploring new career opportunities, I learned about the Health Information Management Specialist position as through the Keswick Multi care Center website. I am very interested in exploring new opportunities while expanding my experiences in the Healthcare Information Management field. My experiences align well with the qualifications that you are seeking for your department as to handling patient records.

Chief information officer (CIO) is an executive job title commonly given to the person with an organization in charge of information technology (IT) strategy and the computer systems required to support organization objectives and goals. As the storage, transmittal and analysis of electronic health information became more important to the health care industries, CIOs are key contributors to formulating strategic goals within the IT department. The CIO must have at least a bachelor’s degree; however, some companies prefer CIO candidates with a graduate degree. Over the span of 28 months various new roles were described for health information professionals. Approximately 29 new roles were identified which were related to information and electronic record organization. This led to adding more tasks and responsibilities to current health care professionals which if not carefully implemented may result in fragmentation. The addition of all those roles led to a lot of decision making in terms of how to distribute the new workload among departments. Depending on how many roles were added, the importance of how to properly assign them was a huge task in itself. In most of the healthcare organizations, there is a position for the chief technology officer (CTO). Undeniably, the revolution in the health information technology since the early part of the 21st century has driven the health information management (HIM) field with ecstatic and often overwhelming volumes of healthcare data on a daily basis. The need to manage and use this data had shaken up the HIM processes, functions, and outdated management approaches (Wissmann, 2015; Dimick, 2012). The most important job responsibility of a CIO who works in a health care organization is leadership. They provide strategic planning, development, evaluation and coordination of various information and technology systems. They collaborate with business leaders to align IT strategies with business tactics. Health care CIOs establish and direct the information technology department’s goals, policies and practices. For example, they propose hardware and software solutions to reach the company's business objectives. They also manage the day-to-day operations of the information technology department, which includes directing networking, user services, administration and telecommunications staff. CIOs also define, develop, implement and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans and infrastructure.

Their duties include planning the information system, developing the health policy to suit this system and identifying the present and future information requirements. These professionals use informatics to collect, store, use, and transmit information in such a way that the expert, legal, and organizational record keeping needs of the healthcare institutes, are met. They also ensure appropriate collection, management and application of information within the healthcare system for purposes of effective detection of health problems and for identifying inventive solutions to improve health outcomes.
