The city of Portland was granted a franchise in the year 1970. Harry Glickman, the executive vice president of the team decided to gather a panel of judges and have local residents to enter a contest to decide the name for their upcoming team the following season. The distinctive word Trailblazer, is defined by Webster dictionary as “One that blazes a trail to guide others: A pathfinder: A pioneer.” The actual name came from explorers whom brought a great deal of people to the west part of America in the early
Professional basketball started to develop. As said by Reema “Teams flourished across the country throughout the 1920s. There were thousands of men's professional basketball teams in towns and cities all over the United States. Sometimes Players jumped from team to team and teams played in different cities. Leagues sometimes came and went”(slide 9). Many teams started to develop like the Celtics and the Harlem Globetrotters.
Back in 1958, a man by the name of Walter O'Malley moved his professional baseball team from Brooklyn to Los Angeles. Although Walter didn’t know it yet, this move would affect the professional sports league in two significant ways. First, it expanded the market for professional sports to cities on the west coast in states like California, and Washington. Second, the relocation also altered the relationship between sports franchise and their communities.

In 1961, they were known as the Chicago Packers before switching their name to the Zephyrs the following season. Starting in 1963, they moved to Baltimore and were known as the Bullets. They landed in Washington in 1973-74 as the Capital Bullets and became known as the Washington Bullets in 1974-75. They kept the Bullets name until 1997 when they became the Washington Wizards (“Wizards History,” Online). The Wizards won one NBA championship in the 1977-78 season when they defeated the Seattle SuperSonics as the Bullets. The organization has been owned by Ted Leonsis since June 2010 as part of Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which also owns and operates the Washington Capitals, Washington Mystics, the Verizon Center, and the Washington Valor (“Wizards History,” Online). Since January of 2016 I have interned for the Wizards organization in their basketball operations department. Although I believe the organization runs a smooth operation, there are certain aspects that call for improvement.

When everyone thinks of the Chicago Bulls, they think of greatness. How could you not? The entire decade of the 1990s was all about the Chicago Bulls. Their star player Michael Jordan was easily the most popular athlete in the world, the franchise won 6 NBA championships in eight years, and they were easily recognized as the greatest team ever, owning a then-record 72-win season. They were at the peak of their fame as easily the most recognized team in the world. However, Michael Jordan called it quits after their sixth championship which began a long gradual decline for 20 years. In that time, they have not won any championships or even appeared in the Finals. Now, we have the newest edition of the team, the 2017-2018 Chicago Bulls. After trading three players with all-star experience before the season began, They left their team that is now a bunch of inexperienced players. Despite claims that they are a young team that will get better, I believe that the Chicago Bulls are the worst team in the NBA for now because of a lack of all-star caliber players and their terrible in-game performances.
The Harlem Rens first established on February 13, 1923, by Robert “Bob” Douglas, the owner and coach of the team, and also known as the “Father of Black Professional Basketball”. By creating an agreement with the owner of the Harlem Renaissance Casino and Ballroom, Douglas was able to secure the ballroom as the location for the team’s home court. As a result, the first professional African American basketball team was created, and because they were the only non-white basketball

While doing this they sought out a fast food chain to sell its radio commercials to. McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy's all declined so they decided to go for a more local chain Burgerville. The partner ship turned to be quite profitable for both as the "Blazer Meal" was a big hit for Burgerville and it allowed them to build more stores. The Trail Blazers made $900,000 with the business adventure.

The Bulls became a team in 1996. Whether you are a Bulls fan or not, it's hard to argue the fact that when it comes to the best overall record, depth and pure talent, the Bulls have got it all. Need more proof? As we approach the start of the Playoffs, the Bulls are close to no other Chicago team in the last 5 years has come close to accomplishing such a feat. Anytime someone refers to the Bulls “dynasty”, they are talking about Michael Jordan years.
