The book Charlotte Doyle by Avi is about a girl named Charlotte that goes on a voyage to Providence. Other families were supposed to come with her on the ship, but unfortunately, they could not show up. Charlotte was eventually part of the crew, accused of murder, and found guilty! The new theme that I picked out is that if you really want something, you’re going to have to work hard and fight for it until you succeed. You should also stand up for whatever you believe in. She protested clearly that he should stop and wasn’t hesitant to grab the whip and throw it overboard. She wasn’t scared to fight for what she wanted and she was determined to make the beating stop immediately. This clearly shows that she is fearless, aggressive, and firm. Another great example from the third part of the text is when Charlotte joins the crew! The whole crew never imagined in a million years that she could climb that whole mast, but she did! Most were supposed to die doing such a hard task, but she was just that driven to do it! She even got the whole crew on her side and convinced Jaggery to get on the crew’s side and made Charlotte an official member of the crew! In the fourth section of the book, it was even easier to understand the theme. Charlotte was accused of murdering HollyBrass, even though she did nothing. She said nothing but the truth, defending herself and giving clear proof that she was innocent. Captain Jaggery still found her guilty, but Charlotte made a plan with Zechariah and eventually, Captain Jaggery died! Which only meant one thing- Charlotte was voted the new
