The author of the True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle is Avi. Avi has a twin sister which means that he is a fraternal twin. In addition to having a twin sister, Avi now has a wife named Linda Cruise Wright. Avi is not his real name, that is his nickname that his sister gave him and so now he uses that name instead. He doesn’t put his real name on his books because Avi’s parents don’t like that he is an author. They disapprove of him being a writer. Avi was born on December 23, 1937 in New York City. His teachers used to call him “daydreamer”. He was not very good when he was in school and he also decided he wanted to be a writer when he was in highschool in his senior year. Avi also has a hobby that he likes to do when he’s not writing
In the story The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi, the main character Charlotte Doyle, is scheduled to take a journey from England to America. When she finds out that she is traveling alone, Charlotte doesn’t trust anyone on the ship, especially the crew members for many reasons. When Charlotte talks to Captain Jaggery while sailing, the conversation ends up on the topic of the crew members, “And a captain has not the easiest of task, considering the nature of the crew he must command. They are godless men, I fear…” Captain Jaggery stated while talk to Charlotte (page 47) He means that they are rough at times and don't have a religion to follow. Written in 1894, “The Story of an Hour” is a story of a woman who, through the erroneously reported death of her husband, experienced true freedom. Both tragic and ironic, the story deals with the boundaries imposed on women by society in the nineteenth century. The author Kate Chopin, like the character in her story, had first-hand experience with the male-dominated society of that time and had experienced the death of her husband at a young age (Internet). The similarity between Kate Chopin and her heroine can only leave us to wonder how much of this story is fiction and how much is personal experience.
In “The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle” Charlotte Doyle’s father wants Charlotte to go to Providence, Rhode Island for school. Charlotte’s father signs her up to board the Seahawk (a ship). Charlotte is then chaperoned by Mr. Grummage to take her to the Seahawk. The person holding Charlotte’s bags takes of running when he hears what ship he is taking the bags to. Mr. Grummage is quite angry and tries to find another person to carry Charlotte’s bags.

How would one feel to hear the news of a significant other or loved one who has passed away due to an accident? The news is heartbreaking and rather unimaginable. “Sorry to say but your husband has died due to an accident.” No one wants to hear those words or go through the painful time. In “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin’s, the death of her husband meant freedom and happiness. Chopin’s uses a great deal of symbolism throughout the story in order to depict the theme of freedom and happiness.
After, having his life saved by Fern Wilbur is put in a pig pin where he meet’s charolette. Charolette respresents the mothering instinct in this novel. Charolette spends most of the novel trying to teach Wilbur how to act, spinning words in her web to protect him, and staying endlessly exhausted to take care of Wilbur. Charolette teaches Wilbur how to act around others and encourages him to go out and make friends with the other animals. After, being rejected by multiple animals charolette looks to cheer Wilbur up by making him feel better by writing words in her web that would build his confidence, such as extraordinary, excellent. This is a a great example of Charolettes mothering instinct kicking in. The desire to make someone she cares
In order to develop there are certain needs of children that need to be met, these needs being to love and be loved, belong, the need for physical well-being, knowledge, to achieve, change, and beauty and order in the form of structure. In the children’s book Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White the characters Wilbur, Fern, and Charlotte address the physical, emotional, and moral needs that are associated with early childhood development theories that are described in chapter 2 of Literature for Children. This story starts off showing morally developed Fern is when her father tells her he needs to slaughter the pig because he is “the runt of the litter” rebutting back Fern says “The pig couldn’t help being born small, could it? If I had been very small at birth, would you have killed me?... I see no difference” “
If the setting changed, from a sunny day to a dark, gloomy day, the story’s theme would change. The theme I’ve found in the story is that we often take for granted good things, by only focusing on the negative things. If the day wasn’t as nice, the mood of the characters might have changed to not being as happy. The positive attitudes are molded by the good day, therefore if the setting changed, the theme of the story would definitely change, and Annie would’ve never gone through this experience. It probably wouldn’t have been a good story at all, just Annie sitting around ranting about the day. Also, if the setting change to more of a remote place (such as a farm or an island), she might haven’t been able to experience things as walking around the block.
The narrator also manifest idea of what it is to be women in this time period and what is expected from her. She reveals this by explaining how she is not what she should be. She comments on Janie and compares herself to her when she states, “she is perfect and enthusiastic housekeeper, and hopes for not better profession, I verily believe she thinks it is the writing which made me sick!” (Gilman 545). This quote is informing the reader that the ‘perfect’ woman in this time is a housekeeper who sticks to traditional woman roles of housekeeping. This also shows how women are criticized for being writers and it is a profession that is unusual for a woman. In this story, the narrator also discusses how she in not happy in her marriage by stating
Friendship is boundless. E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web is a beautiful illustration of how friendship goes beyond our expectations. Although Charlotte’s Web is a children’s novel, it clearly demonstrates what true friendship looks like and how it can shape one’s life. A young pig named Wilbur, alone in the barn and destined to become Christmas dinner, meets
