Dear Z.P People are born the way they are. Is it right to change themselves if they were given the chance. Charlie in the book, Flowers for Algernon, had an I-Q of 68. He was loved and cherished by the people around him. He took part in an experiment that could bring up his intelligence. The side effects were unknown but he still did it. After the operation from the experiment he became smarter. Charlie talked and acted differently in contrast to everybody, making everyone feel second rate. People who cherished him ceased and he lost his occupation. His intelligence changed him making everything feel distinct. He suddenly discovered that being smart didn’t make you feel more love or happy. Before long, he learned his intelligence wasn’t
“I said Miss Kinnian never gave me tests like that one only spelling and reading. They said Miss Kinnian told that I was her bestist pupil in the adult nite scool becaus I tryed the hardist and I reely wantid to lern” -Charlie. Concluding that if you could feel smarter than you are now, would you. That's what Charlie feels like until he has an operation that makes him smart. The theme of this story I think is that people change over time. Like charlie changes throughout the story. In the story “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes Charlie patarys the theme that people changed overtime.
Charlie Gordon’s doctors acted ethically when they performed the surgery to make him smarter. In the beginning Charlie took a Rorschach test to test his personality. When he took the test, he said he saw nothing in the inkblots. Charlie Gordon is in his 30’s; his IQ was 68, despite this fact, Charlie spends time with his teacher Miss Kinnian to get smarter. Miss Kinnian teaches at a school for slow adults.
In this novel, Flowers for Algernon, written by Daniel Keyes, a man named Charlie Gordon has an operation done to increase his intelligence. He started as a mentally retarded man and slowly became a genius. He seemed to soak up information like a sponge and he was able to figure out the most complex scientific formulas. The only problem with the operation is that it does not last for ever and in his remaining time he tries to figure out why it is not permanent. He will eventually lose everything he learned and become worse off than when he started, so Charlie was better off before he had the operation.
I’ve read a wild, but a mysterious story called ‘’Charlie’s Point Of View”. This book was created and invented by a brilliant man named Richard Scrimger. This book is a fictional but a great book. As I take you into the journey/wonders of this book, I’ll tell you all about a blind boy solving a mystery with his powerful senses. The boy who was blind was named as Charlie Fairmile. He has two other friends who gave him big help and their names were Lewis and Bernadette.
“Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.”-James Madison. In the science fiction story “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes Charlie Gordon always wanted to have the power of knowledge. Ever since he was a boy, his life goals were to be smart, have friends, and be respected. All of this was hard for him, as he only had an IQ of sixty eight, so he agreed to an A.I. surgery that would hopefully triple his IQ. Charlie Gordon’s life was much better and easier after the A.I. surgery. After the operation Charlie finally had an imagination, experienced adult emotions, and had a second chance to contribute to the real world and science.
“Eagar, Determined, and Motivated:” these three words describe Charlie Gordon in Daniel Keyes’s story “Flowers for Algernon”. Daniel Keyes writes about a thirty two year old man with a low IQ (Charlie Gordon) who strives to become “normal”. Charlie will do anything to become smarter even letting two doctors preform brain surgery to enhance his learning capability. Charlie evolves throughout the novel and by the end of his journey although his IQ is low he is a more complete person. He learns the true meaning of friendship and demonstrates intellectual growth as a person by overcoming obstacles and understanding various lessons.
How would someone with an IQ of 68 be able to choose whether or not they have a life changing operation? Well Charlie had to make that decision all on his own. In the Science Fiction short story, “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes, a disabled adult that had to decide on his own if he should have an operation to make him smart. Was Charlie’s voice of himself right or wrong to have a life changing operation? How would someone with an IQ of 68 be able to choose and operation that they could later regret forever?
People now days treat others with disrespect and look down upon on other who are mentally challenged, and this is not right. In the story “ Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes, Charlie gets the opportunity to get an operation that could potentially make him smarter. The bad news is it could have side effects and he could lose everything he has learned from the operation and it not work. I believe in this story Charlie should have gotten the operation.
Why did Charlie want to become smarter? Charlie Gordon wanted to be smarter so he got a brain operation and he learned a lot faster than normal and then started loosing what he learned and what he knew before the operation. In the story, “Flowers for Algernon” Daniel Keyes explains that a person should not compare his/her intelligance with others.
Conflicts are often faced by characters in novels and movies. A conflict is a struggle between two opposing forces, usually a protagonist and an antagonist. Charlie Gordon is a mentally disabled man from Flowers for Algernon who has a surgery to become smarter. Sam Dawson is a mentally disabled man from I am Sam, who is fighting for custody of his daughter. Charlie had it worse than Sam because he struggled with many emotions and he had various losses throughout the story.
Services to the community are social services, Schools , post office, fire station , police station and businesses.
Even after Charlie’s regression did he ever regret having the A.I surgery? No. In the story “Flowers for Algernon”, A character named Charlie Gordon had a disability that made his mind into a child. Then a man named Dr.Strauss needed a test subject for an experiment, Charlie was the perfect subject for the A.I experiment. After his surgery his I.Q went up rapidly and he enjoyed life. Then Algernon bit Charlie and started to progress regression rapidly and soon died. Everyday after his death Charlie laid down flowers where Algernon died. Charle should have gotten his surgery because he wouldn't have better grammar, he wouldn’t have develop feelings, and wouldn't have discovered the “Algernon-Gordon Effect”
Have you ever read the book "Flowers for Algernon"? It is a great story, It's all about this man named Charlie. Charlie had a mental disability and was determined to become smart like his friends Frank Rylee, and Joe Carp. In the book, he did a surgery that he thought could help him become smarter and more self-aware. But I disagree with Charles actions on getting smarter.
In a large science lab in New York one man is trying to make his life how he always wanted. One man is out to change his life forever Charlie Gordon a 37 year old man with a I.Q. of just sixty eight is trying to do in the science fiction story “Flowers for Algernon”. All Charlie wanted was to be smart and be liked by everyone he just wanted to be a normal person he wanted to be like everyone else but it went very bad.
“Even a feeble-minded man wants to be like other men” (Keyes 199). In the novel Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes, Charlie Gordon, a 32 year old man, is the main character of the story, and he is a mentally disabled individual who just wants to be accepted for who he is. Charlie faced difficulties being mentally disabled and later as a genius, throughout the story Charlie was mentally disabled he faced problems such as wanting to be like everyone else, being neglected by his mother & sister, and developing his maturity and emotions while being smart for a temporary amount of time. Considering that, Charlie just wants to be accepted for the person that he is, while having the mindset and characteristics of a 6 year old. Charlie
