In life there are people such as Charlie Gordon with an IQ of 68 percent and with no emotions. Charlie Gordon was a 37 year old man with an IQ of 68 percent. He was mentally challenged at a young age and still is now. Until one day a man in a white coat told him he could be smart with an operation he had to take. thats when everything changed about Charlie Gordon he was no longer mentally challenged nor emotionless. Charlie Gordon should have had the IQ surgery because he became intelligent, gave him emotions he never felt and realized the truth about his friends and how they treated him. Charlie should had had the surgery because he became intelligent. He learned how to use punctuation correctly in a few days. Over time his spelling became better and didn’t have as much misspelled words as he used to. As you can see that Charlie Gordon learned thing that it would take people years to learn or master and it only took him a few days. Before the surgery he didn’t know that much about punctuation and had lot of misspelled words. Charlie mentions “Now I know what it means to pull a Charlie Gordon I’m ashamed” (p.323). When Charlie Gordon took the operation he started to feel and show emotions. First came anger when he saw people treated the boy working in the dinner with no respect. Next came love and happiness when he fell in love with Miss Kinnian and felt full of joy. Finally came sadness when Algernon died he felt sad because Algernon was a friend to him. In the story it said “P.P.S please if you get a chance put some flowers in Algernon’s grave in the backyard” (p.341). Charlie still feels sad that his friend Algernon is dead so he wants to show that he will always remember Algernon as a friend. If it wasn’t for the surgery Charlie would have never felt these
